  • Here is a decent line up that would give Bolton a run for their money this Saturday.

                              Wright

                      Curtis.       Kinsey

                 Campbell Went Reeves

    Gregory Tees Tracey Moore Peacock

    Sub Dennis Booth

    Job done.

    Dion Charles out injured.
“Top-goalscorer Dion Charles (knee) is absent for Bolton, who are also without goalkeeper Nathan Baxter (wrist) and captain Ricardo Almeida Santos (calf).

George Thomason is suspended, while doubts remain over the fitness of Will Forrester (hamstring).”
Maybe this is the stroke of luck we need.
I suspect Santos's presence gives the Bolton players the same sort of lift that  Chuks gives ours.
    Can but hope

Santos being out is excellent news, he always seems like a colossus at the back for them - should make Chuks time more exciting if he’s only up against mortals!

Without stating the obvious we desperately need to tighten up at the back and against a team like Bolton who keep hold of the ball well and score lots of goals my team selection would definitely be set up to be tight and compact. I don't think Jones will set up like this he seems to be going with the best form of defence is attack philosophy, lots of energy etc which is fair enough I just feel that teams like Bolton are that much better then us they will slice through us no problem. My starting 11 would be:

    Istead

    REG Jones Gill Thomas

    Dobson

    Coventry Pan

    L Watson

    Kanu May

    442 diamond

Yes I've gone full Tony Pulis with 4 centre backs on the pitch but I honestly don't rate any of our full backs defensively. Our back 4 in this game need to defend and those 4 will and with Dobbo marshaling in front of them we should always out number them. Coventry doesn't play the DM role as well as Dobbo so he needs to find his role in that midfield slightly more advanced looking to play balls in behind for Kanu and May who in turn need to take turns in providing some width pulling Boltons back three apart. Pan and Watson will provide the energy from midfield making sure they support the front two with runs into the box.

This would be my game plan for 60/65 mins (scoreline depending) until we get the big two on from the bench and again depending on the score May could drop into that number 10 role if we are chasing a goal. Likewise is we are chasing a goal I'd have Ramsey and Edun ready to bring on last 20 mins.

I don't think we will outscore Bolton hence the keep it tight game plan and yes I'd be telling the players to shithouse from minute one time wasting, arguing, in their faces. I don't care about pretty football I care about points. Let's do what so many teams do to us!

  • Think we need to try something a bit different so we can create a bit more, possibly more suited to the home game vs Pompey though.

                                                                                         Isted

                                            Ramsay           Jones                              Thomas               Watson

                                                                     Coventry      Dobson        Camara

                                                                                           May

                                                                                 Kanu           Ladapo
Gave this a LOL because of the way it looks on mobile, but in all seriousness I quite like that lineup, but maybe for a home game. I think that would get obliterated by Bolton, who are hands down the best team we've seen at the Valley this season.

Was trying to work out why this got so many lol's, perhaps that it's.

Not sure why else it would, agreed I wouldn't play it against Bolton but certainly against Pompey and the easier fixtures we have.

4/1 isn’t generous, but I’m almost tempted to have a flutter. However, best home record v worst away record (I think?).

Feels like Bolton away is one of the biggest bogey fixtures for us. Can’t remember ever winning there
Our sole away win of the season came at the home of their nearest rivals a stones throw away.  Time for a sort of unique double?

I'd like to think so, and I think they'll be goals, but should we sneak a lead late on, I can't see our bunch of windy f#&king c#&ts holding out, so 2-2.

Bolton play a 3-1-4-2 so if people think we’re going to move to a diamond, with very little time on the training pitch this week, after playing a back 3 on Tuesday, you’ll be mistaken.

We will have a 3-5-2 and someone will be given the job to push high up on Sheehan who will come in and sit at the base of midfield.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see us have a good chunk of the ball, we just got to make the most of it.

Think this is a game where athleticism and physicality will be order of the day for us.

The game plan will be keep it tight until Chucks can come on and try to nick a goal. No chance we can start with Edun if we want to be solid defensively. I think this could be a game where we see Thomas as LWB or Asimwe come in on the right with T.Watson on the left (assuming Ramsay is injured).

From what I gather Santos is a doubt for them, but they’re hoping he’ll be available. If they have any sense, they’ll leave him on the bench and bring him on the exact moment we bring Chuks on.

Let’s be clear though, Bolton without Santos and Charles are not the same threat. Without them we do go in with a chance.

Having listened to Charlton live and heard on the number of quality players within their spine out, I am going for a shock 2-1 away win! May and Ladapo
  • Seeing the list of absentees for Bolton, changing my previous comment, if Jones can keep the momentum going from Tuesday after he got the players putting in a real shift for the first time in many matches then we could take some points home with us.

Fingers crossed we are still in the game with 20 minutes to go

If we are 2/3 down with 20 to go then leave Aneke on the bench and save him for the Portsmouth home game

It’s Chuks isn’t, rather than Chucks?
    Pronounced ‘chooks’ according to Chuks.
I’ve always pronounce his surname ‘Aneekay’, but it's pronounced ‘Anekee’. I’ll get there in the end!

    2/1 away win.

Win this and I’ll believe staying up is a real possibility, anything else means Relegation is a real possibility
Please express this in percentages, including what a draw would mean. Thanks.

    3-1 Addicks

you can quote this at 5pm on Saturday
  • It would be the most Charlton thing to win these next three games and then not win for the rest of the season

Big Mbike is as he admits “a handful” and can put himself about. I’d have 3 big ins up top as much as possible. If the  ball is in the Bolton penalty box it’s not in ours!

  • Santos being injured is a huge advantage to us, but I didn't see anything in our draw with Lincoln to suggest we can cause an upset away at Bolton. I predict a painful 3-0 defeat, but of course I would love to be wrong!

Think if if we can get to HT 0-0, anything after that is possible.
Every season we pull off a “out of the blue “ win if we can do it against the Trotters/Pompey we might have a fighting chance of survival.
Head says 2-0, heart says 0-2,
Tip of the cap to our travellers, bring the points back! COYRS!

Progression under Jones is there and we should have won the game. If he can keep them confident and on the right track then we have every chance of winning.

There no pushovers but this squad should be doing better so now its time to prove that!

We've got to win at some point surely. 15 games without a win in League one must be unheard of

With Thomason santos Charles and their keeper all not available I think we are perfectly able to get at least a point maybe 3 if we play like we did 2nd half on Tuesday.hopefully we can put this side out on Saturday. Isted.
