Deep would’ve had three wickets this morning if not for the millimetre overstep to Crawley at 7-0.0
-
Another lbw not out call reviewed on Joe Root’s first ball
Impact outside off stump so Root survives.0 -
Ripping through us now0

Crawley 42 (41) b Deep
Nipped in and through the gate. Carbon copy of the one that got him earlier but no overstepping this time.0 -
Dream debut for Deep as Crawley bowled for 42.

You’d like to think that this surface will at least be very suited to Jimmy & Robbo0

Bairstow had been playing well then plays a poor shot to a straight ball and LBW to Ashwin for 38.

That’s a ridiculous dismissal in the 25th over on day 1….

Agree.
Ashwin and Jadeja are high class spinners but on this wicket 250 looks a par score.
Unfortunately we are a long way off at lunch.
Akash Deep with his seamers had a fantastic spell of 3/24 off 7 overs and he could've had Crawley bowled for 7 if he didn't overstep the mark.
Siraj in comparison was 0/43 off 6 overs and in one over conceded 19 when Crawley had his eye in.0 -

But not if the pitch is a 4th day pitch on the 1st day. Bairstow has been out LBW on the last four occasions with the last three in an attempt to sweep spinners.0 -
Rehan Ahmed is returning home today for urgent family reasons. He won't be coming back for the final Test and England won't be seeking a replacement for him.0

And if they play for England, you'll hardly see them!
Much easier to pick up journeymen from other counties, or from overseas (with a UK passport).2 -

But yes it is. And needed too. Great to see Root backing as Root can in Test cricket. Accumulating but watchful with straight bat shots being the order of the day.0 -
161 for 5 at drinks.
Both batsmen playing proper cricket.
Please keep it going lads.1 - Sponsored links:

Root and Foakes playing steady and straight have accumulated a 50 partnership.

Joe Root remembering why he is considered one of England's great batsman's of all time reaches 50 by playing a Quintessential Root innings.
If you didn't watch the first session you wouldn't think it was the same pitch but as mentioned the moisture has dried up.1 -
Two aspects we have to consider when comparing Bairstow and Foakes - the first is an obvious one and that is with the gloves. It isn't just Foakes' hands and technique that are better, it is his movement in anticipation. Since Bairstow's injury he simply has not been the same so far as the latter it concerned.
The other is batting but that comparison shouldn't necessarily be just about averages - it is also about how long they occupy the crease and specifically in situations we currently find ourselves in. For example, is Bairstow's 38 off 35 in a partnership of 52 more valuable than say Foakes' 25 off 87 (and still going) in a partnership of 72? Foakes still being there has meant that we haven't exposed our tail and allowed Root to bat as the situation demands.

Ha ha. On Jadeja's insistence Sharma reviews a "not out" LBW decision against Foakes and now India have lost all three of them. Sharma is not amused!!!0

Root 66 is on 660

198-5off 61 overs at tea. England's session all the way with an 86 run partnership between Root (67 off 154) and Foakes (28 off 108)0

Brilliant session! Need to cash in this evening now1

Is the pitch getting easier - or better application by the batters ?0

I trust you can see that Ben Fokes can bat and isn't hopeless!1
