Just to liven things up a bit, Pauline Black (The Selector) and Dolores O'Riordan (Cranberries) were both great frontwomen who seem to be missing from the thread.

    Pauline Black ooooah!  Very fit!

Chrissy Hinde still wins for me with Siouxie 2nd.
I was due to see The Pretenders last month but it was postponed as she's done her knee. Rescheduled for October.

Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles, just for the way she fluttered her eyes sedcutively on TOTP whilst singing Walk Like An Egyptian.

Beat me to it. That TOTP's moment was like porn to a younger me.

Yet no good to us men, as she's gay. Still looks good these days though.

Lzzy Hale from Halestorm was awesome live. I went with a friend who had a spare ticket and hadn't listened much to them before but was blown away!

    Probably Amalie Materna.
Known for singing the part of the valkyrie Brunhild in The Ring Cycle.
She did the 20 minute farewell at the end.
Hence the phrase it ain't over till the fat lady sings.

News to me. Thought she'd been married to the same guy for 30 + years.

She's been married to Terry Button since 1980, but apart from that fact she's definitely gay.
Terry is a man in case of doubt.

Poly Styrene (X Ray Spex) for me, and I can't believe no one has mentioned Fay Fife  (The Rezillos).

Beth Gibbons, been listening to a ton of Portishead recently, and forgot what a joy her voice is, and how that held it all together
  • Not the best but one on the way up is Dana Magorlin of Porridge Radio. Gives it everything and a great performer live.

Patti Smith from a live perspective. Not sure I've seen anyone else on stage captivate an audience the way she has the few times seen her.
Seen her about 10 times since 1976 and totally agree.  Wanted to go to Brighton this year at the Dome again...but was too late - sold out!

Helen Adu (lead singer of Sade)

I could watch and listen to her all day long.

She looks as good today as she did 25 years ago!

Today I learned : Sade was the actual name of the band
Seriously, did everyone else know this ?
Have asked at work, and no one knew Sade was a band name, rather than just the singers name.

I didn't even know there was a band. Just thought it was her and some session musicians.

Sandy Denny from a folk angle but Bridget St John runs her close. Otherwise Patti smith all the way.
