Scrap the boxing. Does nobody any favours other than the judges banks balances.
You might get you wish - it’s on the chopping block

Hudson-Smith looking very good in the 400m semis, which were somewhat buried in the BBC coverage at the end of the main coverage. Genuine chance of a Gold tomorrow.
  • At last, the best boxer won. Golden Dublin girl Kelly Harrington retains her title.

am I imagining it or was the boxing previously scored based on number of scoring punches were landed? i've got it in my head that if 2 out of 3 judges pressed their button at the same time then it scored, most punches landed won
Remember that system around '96? Think it was unique to the games. My kids asked me today how it was scored and I genuinely couldn't answer.

That sounds very odd as an event!

Mixed relays are making it a lot easier to get a medal in many sports. Rowers must be jealous, imagine how many medals Steve Redgrave could have won if rowers had relays as well!

They should bring in other events like heading the shot put and catching the javelin.

I don't think having more opportunities to medal necessarily makes it easier to win one, but I take the point.

Showed lots of promise, started badly, never picked up, stumbled over the line?

Awesome talent who has had many mental health issues especially when during COVID he was in the USA and had financial problems due to not having health insurance after having Achilles and hamstring issues.
He hit rock bottom as coaches he was close to passed away.
If Matthew Hudson-Smith is fit in mind and body tonight and he looks it in the heats then MHS is a contender for Gold. 🤞🏼

Different sports seem to demand things from different parts of the body.
The walking seems to demand great hip movement and puts pressure on the outside of the feet.

Exactly. For some sports, previously you had just the one event, and now you have a second chance to win a medal in the mixed relay, e.g. triathlon, while in others it adds to the vast numbers already available.

The Dutch for example won the 4*400 mixed relay on the track, as many of the best competitors didn't compete, whereas their star Femke Bol did compete. The other 3 runners would never have won a gold medal without this event.
  • I'm a bit disappointed with Andrea Spendolini_Siriex. She's only worth 33 on a Scrabble board.

And don't forget our mighty cyclists who often compete in several races for medals in one Games. Thus our most successful Olympian by gold and medals won is Jason Kenny (seven gold and nine overall). His wife is no slouch either of course.

Keystone cops in the 5000m heat.
6 men hit the deck including 4 in the final straight.
George Mills blaming another runner after he goes flying.

Typical Mills. Causes trouble, all his fault, tries to blame someone else and gives it the big un.

spot on, like father like son. definitely his fault imo, went for a gap that wasn't there and got a nudge. if someone tried that on me in a race they'd get an elbow just like he got

Do they have mixed relay cycling events?

Just because more medals are on offer doesn't make it "easier" to win one. However, I think the point being made is that relay team line ups get changed round by round, meaning an individual top level athlete might not have to commit as much effort to winning one, which I agree makes it easier.
