That is one tough sport that climbing.
Very well done to all of them, but phenomenal from Toby Roberts.

Grenada, St Lucia, Dominica, New Zealand, Jamaica leading the medals per capita table.

Just watched the Japanese guy's climb. The commentators did a great "commentators curse" job on him, by bigging him up as being unstoppable  ;)

The other Brit competitor needs to accidentally trip Thiam up in the 800m  ;)
Just what I was thinking 😉

Who would have thought our next Gold would be in wall climbing 🙂. You can forget all your throwing spears or cannon balls.

I also have to agree with the commentators - so good to have graphics showing where you have to be to get the medals. Makes it much more interesting.

Agreed. Never having watched that format before, it was really interesting to see the positions they needed to reach, and indeed the real time scoreboard

Might need long legs if they aren't in the same race 🤔 About 8 seconds needed, but on PB's they're about 6 apart.

It's a shame they don't show the full wall more often to show what the climbers are up against. Looks pretty flat when up close but the overhang on the wall is insane.

These Paris Olympics have paid pretty good attention to detail except the polluted river Seine. I was impressed after the climbing medal ceremony there was somebody on hand to give them a camera for a selfie.
Maybe we can park the put down’s about plain white flags and cheese eating monkeys in some corners of British culture now we see what a great Olympics the French have given to us.
  • Brilliant moment when he realised he'd won gold too, well done Toby!

    Never!
Me & my Frenchies love ripping each other.
And they’ve done the phone thing after every ceremony as it’s being plugged by the organisers.

The Aussie cyclist Matthew Richardson was actually born in Maidstone, so is bringing the sporting prowess of Kent to the Olympics  ;)
  • Just catching up with a bit of the women’s diving atm and something I noticed (maybe  one for you know you’re getting old thread) is the design and quality of the GB swimsuit, like all the GB ‘uniforms’ is head and shoulders over every other country’s efforts. Whoever is behind designing and producing those should get a gold medal.

Finally the Chinese haven't won gold and silver in a singles diving event!

I am glad for you. Not everyone feels the same.

Looking forward to the show jumping element of the Modern Pentathlon. It won't feature again after Paris, depriving us of the chance to see horse and rider in perfect harmony, just like they were in Tokyo as caught on camera below.

this is quite astonishing, didn't realise the format was a dance off. I'm hoping there's a team event with big groups facing up in a dance off followed by a rap battle

How the fuck do you win though? Do they dance at eachother until one cries and runs away like in the movies?

Raygun is twice as old as everyone else and is dancing while wearing full Aussie white ball cricket kit. she doesn't seem very good but is having the time of her life

that Australian called 'Raygun' reminded me of an amateur trying to do breakdancing whilst not really achieving much at all. looked so out of place. she just rolled around the floor.

Raygun looked like she's a 'cool' aunt that once took a dance class and listens to world music on Spotify. Bizarre

my wife thought it looked like one of those tv shows with a pro dancer teaching a celebrity to dance
