The Youth Zone is a long term project. CAST put the idea to the club and they immediately took it up. It originated from learning from European clubs where an issue was identified re how young supporters who initially attend with parents / older family members want to be a bit more independent once the reach their mid teens but often aren’t quite ready to go straight into the equivalent of our F Block. This provides a stepping stone.Agree UoG are also a good target market / partner for this.
In other countries these zones often become the source for both online content and in stadium displays. @Braziliance maybe you could help mentor? There are enough empty seats at The Valley to go round just now so it’s great to see something proactive aimed at filling them with potential lifelong fans. On the whole it’s a good strategy to aim discounts at kids and younger fans to get them Addickted. As long as no-one gets reported to social services 😉3 -
If you want discounted seats. why not ? If millionaires dont get winter fuel allowance, why should they get cheap seats at football ? Students have to prove they are studying for a discount which nobody is concerned about btw.
Its just an idea (which would never happen), not out there to trigger a row with everyone over 65. £20 for a adult (so dont worry you wouldnt be forced to pay more), £10 under 18, kid for a quid every game for U6.... then over 65 a £15 walk up ticket for those with less funds.

Lets face it, youre going to have all but no success converting someone to be a league 1 charlton fan at the age of 20.0 -

65 and have relatively less money, have a bit off.... had a ST for 5,10,20 years... have another bit off. All while paying less than you would be for a ticket now anyway.
You very much seem to be overlooking the fact that nobody is asking you to pay more, infact could pay even less.0 -

Maybe the same person that manages all the current schemes, could implement 2/3 more ?0 -

I think any sort of discount scheme is fine. I'd like to see the Valley more full, and I can afford my match ticket, if incentives like this one, and offering discounts to over 65s drive up attendances, I'm all for it.3

shine166 said:Oap tickets could easily be means based, no real reason why someone with millions in the bank needs cheap tickets. U11 I get as you're breeding the next generation and they regain £100's every season on kits and crap.
How many Charlton fans have millions in the bank?7 -

I dont know, but without the need for everyone to automatically feel attacked its a conversation on a msg board. I know people like to feel triggered about anything and take it all so literally, but I can only repeat the fact that nobody would be paying more than they are now, youd be paying less from 18-death and even less if you dont have a pot to piss in, whats so wrong with that ?
No idea why that idea is so controversial ! Just thought it might be nice to reward everyone and not just the 1 season wonders we hope to get from a local uni, who are now paying £3 a game.0 -

All of this conversation is avoiding the main issue which is that (this new deal excluded) the price for L1 football is far too high and won’t attract many people who just fancy an activity for the day5

All the prices I said are lower than what people pay now, just proves that people will take offence by anything.0 -

Ironic isn’t it that the wealthy owners and paid to be there executives in the comfort of the directors box with hospitality don’t understand why more fans don’t want to pay upwards of £25 to sit in an uncomfortable part of the ground and queue for an overpriced snack / drink. It’s not rocket science at all.Cut prices and simplify the zones / variation.
Offer buy one get one half price for the next fixture to get floating supporters back more than once.Did we even have football for a fiver last season ? I don’t remember this happening.Season tickets give no real financial value over match by match purchases and in a half empty stadium there needs to be more benefit / incentive.0 - Sponsored links:

The football itself is shocking (over the course of the last decade or so), I.e. the product. Most of us are paying for the activity itself of attending games, following the club and catching up with friends. You would struggle to find many people with no attachment to this club, willing to part with £30 or thereabouts every other week.
Ridiculous pricing when you look at other top European clubs. It should be £20 at absolute maximum for the best seats in the house and £10-15 elsewhere around the ground for the less favourable views. Even then, they'd probably still struggle I imagine.4 -

Speaking as a season ticket holder who now qualifies for the over 65 discount I'd just like to say my bit.
I've been supporting Charlton since 1966 and have been to about 86 or 87 different grounds the length and breadth of England watching us play.
I'm in a group of about 15 of us who are all of a similar age and they have all done as many games as I have.
Not only that but our children and grandchildren are all Charlton supporters who regularly attend games with us.
God knows how many tens of thousands we have all spent supporting Charlton for well over 50 years but it's something we do because of our love of the club.
So when we reach the ripe old age of 65 and the club gives us a discount I see it as a reward for many many years of loyal support.
How much money we have or in most cases don't have is totally irrelevant.
See you all at the valley Saturday.15 -

The fact that people would rather pay a reduced rate of £23, than a standard £20 (potentially £15) just so they get a better deal than others is bizarre and must be very reassuring to anyone from the club looking in.0
-
I hear the area will be called Scoats Corner! Not really, I just wanted to use the word scroat.0
-
Yes the price is too high, but it's too high everywhere. As an example, Welling is £16, that's outrageous, compared to our prices.2
-
so Adult prices Dartford £15, Welling £16, Bromley £20, Millwall Cat A £35-£40, Cat B £32-£37 (extra £3 on match day). Ours are Gold £28-£35, others £25 -£32 (extra £3 in the one hour before KO).
So ours don't seem out of line with others.
There are the 2 real questions: firstly would reducing prices by £5 (or any other amount) a match increase revenue; I'd be very surprised. Secondly would the subsequent loss of revenue (effectively making it an investment. which needs funding) show long term benefits. My suspicion is that the answer to this that price promotions are better targeted at specific groups.2 -
How about 7 walk ups and your 8th is half price ? Or 9 walk ups and the 10th is free ?
*no OAPs were harmed in the making of this deal0
