i don't have an issue with him not accepting being abused by some of our fans if its overstepped the mark but regardless, it definitely looks looks like he wants off to Cardiff to me or at least wants to let everybody know there's another optionIlovelondontown said:Is this a “come and get me Cardiff “???
Would Cardiff want Nathan Jones ?
Is there a power struggle going on at CAFC behind the scenes?
Stoke and Saints wasn't great for his career and CAFC is still a Smorgasbord with 3 different formations in 3 games.
Luton was his finest achievement and if he could be the big cheese in Wales then he would probably be tempted.
CAFC have 36 matches to go and we need unity on and off the pitch to achieve and we really don't need a Nathan Jones explosion.

No one should be abused as part of their work. Adults should be behaving appropriately to other human beings in all situations. Some get too low when we lose, and the reverse when we win. We will lose games, maybe a few in a row. Our league position is an improvement on last year at least so far. We all want promotion, and some of the football has been hard work to watch, but the management team need to be given the chance to work through the issues. Sacking another manager seems foolhardy at this time.Considering Nathan and his team have the ability to see those issues and produce a tactical switch out manoeuvering an adversary deserves some praise. The players deserve the same praise for carry out the plan.It is very nice to be talking about on the pitch/football ups and downs. A welcome change compared to recent times.

I remember one of our most gifted players, Mark Aizlewood getting stick. He famously showed some skill and juggled the ball down the East Terrace touchline, received sarcastic cheers then turned around and stuck two fingers up. Leaburn and Garry Nelson both got it too.JamesSeed said:
Of course not, and it was ever thus. But the culture has changed, very much for the worse.Airman Brown said:Is there any set of fans at any club that doesn’t try to pick a better team when faced with poor performances?I’m talking about getting in someone’s face to abuse them, not booing from the stands etc.
Even the legend that is Keith Peacock got plenty of stick towards the back end of his career.
It really isn't new. The intensity might have changed, I'm not sure but I certainly didn't think it was appropriate back then either, because most players try, they just don't always succeed.
I don't ever recall anyone daring to give Killer any stick though, I wonder why 😄1 -
maybe, maybe not but before we had the wobble, the table looked good for him - took us from the edge of the relegation zone last year to top 3 - anyway, lets hope this blows over, the team and management get their act back together following the brum win and we as a fanbase cut a bit more slack when the next inevitable wobble happenssoapboxsam said:DOUCHER said:

He was still fuming about it 4 days after the event. Did someone within the club trying to calm him? I don't believe he hadn't raised it.
He mentioned it in more that 1 interview- the official club video and the written press. So he was making a deliberate point.
On the club video, Charlotte tried on more than one occasion to get him to praise the atmosphere, but he wasn't biting. He also said he learned a lot about certain people, making me think this wasn't just aimed at the fans.6 -
Or maybe he's trying to work out the best formula with a new group of players in a new system? why does it have to be anything more than that?sam3110 said:Absolute wet wipe. When we started the season the team was almost always:
Mannion
Mitchell Jones Gillesphey
Ramsay Coventry Docherty Berry Small
Ahadme T.Campbell
Then he changed it to:
Mannion
Edmonds-Green Jones Gillesphey
Ramsay Coventry Docherty A.Campbell Small
Ahadme Kanu
for the Blackpool game, 3 changes all completely tactical, and we lost.
Suddenly, he changed it to:
Mannion
Mitchell Jones Potts
Ramsay Coventry Anderson Edwards
Kanu Godden T.Campbell
So a change of shape with a 343, 6 changes in total, and again we lost 1-0 to Stevenage. So he went to:
Mannion
Mitchell Jones Gillesphey
Watson Anderson Coventry Berry Edwards
Ahadme T.Campbell
So a further 4 changes from the game before, and another shape change back to 352, and we lost AGAIN to Bristol Rovers, 3-2.
So for the Birmingham game, we go
Mannion
Ramsay Mitchell Jones Edwards
Coventry
Docherty Anderson
A.Campbell
Godden Kanu
So a change of shape and 5 changes, and suddenly it clicks and we win 1-0.
Small wonder the fans are trying to pick the team, because in that 5 game period we changed shape almost every game and averaged nearly 5 changes in the lineup every time. That looks like panic and desperation, a manager that's not convinced he knows what he's doing and doesn't believe in his own tactics and plan. So how can he expect us to buy into his plan and trust in his plan when he doesn't himself? (And if he does believe in his plan, why as soon as we lost one game to Blackpool did he chuck it out the window and change half the team and the shape?!)
We are a really mentally damaged fanbase from the last few years.12 -
Especially when the most recent tweak for Birmingham was clearly part of a well executed plan that nullified the best attacking players in the division.Valley11 said:

Agree but I think NJ is wrong to come out whingeing about it in his post match comments. He must know by now that the performances and results of the team will get an exaggerated reaction from fans and that it goes with the territory. Man up, and then show the abusers how wrong they are by the performances and results on the pitch.Danny Addick said:I’m sure this will be divisive but I want to say it anyway. In my opinion, fans lose all credibility when they abuse players or managers. Moan all you want, you pay your money and football is a game of opinions after all, but never abuse. Heaven is the Premier League, Championship is purgatory, League One is hell.soapboxsam said:According to many Charlton critics if you can't give personal abuse to players or managers you are WOKE.
Many of you must do the fire drill escape especially at away matches after inept displays and individual mistakes have led to defeat if you haven't seen Mr Angry and his side kicks frothing at the mouth, with bulging eyeballs and telling the players to "fuck off" if they attempt to clap the away 'fans'/ haters.
I have said my bit on the Match thread about Nathan Jones and his rant and personally I feel he has been unsettled by the potential interest by Cardiff. Mentioned by a reporter on the BBC and Jason Mohammed the Cardiff fan presenter said that could be interesting!
This could be a false rumour but it's doing the rounds.
Nathan Jones is a unique sensitive, slightly bonkers man who believes in God. He listens to voices and they upset him unless they say he will be going to heaven.
For Charlton fans let's call Heaven, the Championship!
It's finding the balance between deserved criticism about the turgid nature of 8 of our performances including the wins and loses, yet Cafc look top 6 against Bolton and Birmingham. What a paradox.
Hopefully everyone kisses and makes up and this variety of 4-4-2 which caught the leaders out leads to more enjoyment performances and wins.2 -

good interview - easy to see how he sees similarities with Luton's squad given that half of them now play for us!9

I think it does Nathan, in actual fact it appears to effect you quite a lot.
I also found it interesting that when he was asked about the importance to him of being a good man-manager he totally veered off the question and started talking about social media.11 -

To be fair if Godden plays regularly and we create enough he shouldn’t be far off that. Leaburn has plenty of goals in him if we can keep him fit too.PragueAddick said:

I like Godden, but let’s see. He’s also a year older than May. We spent the money on Ahadme anyway. My point was always that signing somebody better than May would be difficult and expensive, just as sacking a manager is easy but finding someone better is difficult and expensive too (not least because you usually have to pay off the current guy).Scoham said:

I can't imagine he'd have called it abuse if it was criticism and that's not something he should be on the receiving end of.
I really hope he sticks around.
After Saturday he has shot himself in the foot a bit though.......... we can all pick the starting 11 now and we know to play them in a 4-4-2 with a box midfield........ simples.... 'shrugs shoulders'0 -
The money we received possibly covered Ahadme’s up front fee, Godden and maybe Dixon.PragueAddick said:

Agree signing better would have been difficult and expensive, but I don’t think that was the aim. Jones felt the money could have been better spent, i.e. rather than one very good player bring in two good players, one who’s young enough to improve further. It’s not worked out with Ahadme (so far) though Godden has already scored 4 in fairly limited minutes.
We have the most options up front than we’ve had in years and that should make a big difference, especially in the busy winter periods when we might start picking up more injuries.1 -
People getting carried away here (pot, kettle black I know) a little bit.
Most managers do things that rile fans from time to time, it’s in the nature of the job, but Jones only did two things that made me angry:1. Dropping Mitchell for tactical reasons.
He admitted it was a mistake. Of course it might have paid off if REG didn’t have such a stinker. But in most of our views, you don’t tinker with a defence when it’s functioning so well.2. Dropping/resting Ramsay, my clear player of the season so far.Was he tired? Did he asked to be rested? I don’t think so? Again I believe Jones admitted he got that wrong,
Apart from that, the Ahadme thing is annoying, but with Leaburn out and Chuks not fit to start, you could see some logic there. And results wise it appeared to be working. Until it wasn’t.But I still say those mistakes don’t justify individuals getting in the managers face in front of the crowd, (showboating). He can hear the reaction of the fans generally, and can see for himself the performances on the pitch. Just my opinion. But I don’t like him calling out the players so much, in particular admitting he got it wrong, followed by ‘but the players didn’t perform’. That’s poor.2 -
