England v Greece

Just over 10 mins in and Jordan Pickford is a very lucky boy. Loses the ball outside the area and has to be rescued by a fabulous goal line clearance by Levi Colwill, and then misses a punch on the second ball from the resulting corner and is saved by the offside flag.

We look wide open at the back early doors. Could easily be three down already.

He’s having a stinker so far.
Regardless of that though, (and I’m not someone who thinks Pickford needs to be dropped, as he usually does pretty well for England), but I also don’t understand why Southgate and now Carsley refuse to give any other goalkeepers gametime. To my mind, these nations league games are perfect opportunities to give others much needed experience.

Remind me, who's playing right back?

Certainly looked that way just now.
Hopefully it's just early days yet but I'm getting 2023 vintage Charlton vibes so far.

Pickford thought he was Ederson but unfortunately he was wrong and superb work by Colwill saved him.
Then the offside saved him again from a missed punch.

Interesting formation by England which has been called a oil rig formation !
We haven't struck oil and are lucky not to be behind.

It worked well with Gordon giving a great pass to the attacking Bellingham and he laid it back to the other attacking 8 and Palmer couldn't keep the ball down.

May take time for this to work !

Getting his bollocks out in the center circle for the entire half time interval?

if they can’t crowbar him into midfield then he shouldn’t be playing.

And yet Sam Matterface waxes lyrical about his every move. He’s a decent player, but Jesus wept Sam, take his dick out of your mouth mate.

Some people wanted us to be this attacking in the Euros. We would of been sharing a flight with Scotland.

I like the idea behind this team tonight, just think there's one too many attacking midfield type players. Taking one out for a more defensive minded midfielder could help

Totally disjointed, nothing going forward and vulnerable at the back. Ridiculous not to play a centre forward.

Also have we no one better than Pickford.

Anthony Gordon is only playing cos he’s Carsley’s favourite. We’ve got better available.

Isn't this a pretty similar system to how Carsley setup the U21s when they won the euros? Games like tonight are the perfect time to experiment, if it doesn't work who really cares?

That’s a fair opinion. But we need to blood some other goalkeepers at some point. At this rate, we’ll find ourselves in the middle of a tournament, Pickford will get an injury or suspension and someone will be making their debut in a genuinely important game. Not ideal.

    We do, if we lose
  • If you pick Trent at RB and encourage him to wander, then you need extra cover from midfield, not Rice by himself.

Agree, just Rice at the back and no CF, bring on Watkins and a second defensive player with Rice

So you forget that we were one minute from coming home when Bellingham scored that overhead kick in the 95th minute against Slovakia to take the game to ET. We hardly created anything until extra time.

So much flair in this team and two great chances for Palmer and Gordon with that brilliant pass from TAA for Gordon and nice work by Gordon and Bellingham for Palmer

Downside is sometimes all the midfielders are forward plus TAA and the Greek can hit in transition.

I'm enjoying this game and to see how a non rigid formation can work in reality. Greece are a canny team.

Gomes would be the sensible option as he calms it down a bit but still passes forward
