Reflecting back on Saturday, went with 2 relatives and one of my sons friends. My nephew's last match was the 2019 Play Off Final, he came up from Bath, Somerset for the weekend, lets face it a bit of Hollywood and the Magic kingdom's streaming service of course creates excitement and razzmatazz. My son and his nephew made a day of it took Uber boat from BPS to Greenwich and we all meet at Trafalgar pub for lunch.
Drove parked 5 mins from the ground in 2hr parking bay, they went in for beers and sat in the car till 2.30 and took my seat in East Stand.
I thought Wrexham fans were great, loud and passionate and up for it, the welsh dragons were roaring. I too heard a lot of scandinavian voices on the concourse behind East Stand and a Norwegian fan was sat close to us. I think it's brilliant that they choose to come to the Valley, of course for majority it's a one-off visit, its football tourism. If you love football, coming to see Charlton is the authentic / real deal and the club should market the hell out of it, more Scandy fans the better. My son did the same with two of his mates, took ferry to Santander & went on a driving holiday through Spain and France saw Atletico Bilbao and in Paris PSG. It's just a shame that rest of season will be back to average crowds, hard to sell to relatives and frends Mansfield or Wycombe? The next time we get a full Valley will be 'IF" we get into the Play-Off semi's.
I’m sure the attendance was due to the lack of games on I was sat next to 2 young Ajax fans who were in London working they knew nothing of the Hollywood connection but enjoyed their day ! Without doubt there were lots of foreign visitors which can only be a good thing surely
I came across a group of Danish people. They were looking forward to the game
Hope you offered them a towel afterwards. Or offered to wipe them down with a half n half scarf.
The Scandi fans is a tradition going back at least 40 years. They have plenty of disposal income, and booze is still considered reasonably priced, especially by the Norwegians. And that's why they've been running live coverage of English footie for as long as rights have been sold overseas. The studio nearly always has well known British ex-players as studio guests. Language barrier? Nah, they just switch to English without missing a beat, don't even bother with sub-titles. They are terrifyingly knowledgeable too. My Swedish mate is an exception to that, but his son embraced the game 100%, became a very good player and decided at about 7 years old Man U was his team. At 16 he won Norwegian TV's Junior Mastermind with Man U as his special subject.

A pint every 12 seconds!! 🤔. Any chance we could hire their staff to do the bars in the Covered End Upper? Or at least send the Gather & Gather gang down for a few lessons!!

Covered End..Yes, but did you get a parking ticket?
Of course not....as I said earlier in this thread there is no way the council can flood the whole area with traffic wardens....charging around taking photos of cars in all the 2 hr parking bays and then return and take photo of cars & issue tickets. The wardens also aren't going to return when the area is flooded with football fans, why would they? It takes time to for them to take photos, get on their devises, print tickets at best a warden may nab 2-3 cars in the 30 min window, if you leave car at 2.30pm I've carried on parking in the 2hr bays since the change from free parking, I leave my car around 2.30pm-2.40pm and in my seat by 2.50.pm I'm back in car around 5pm depending if i watch the tunnel jump. I have only seen one ticket on a car windscreen parked close by but that probably was parked for hours. I might next home game end up with a ticket, but odds must be fairly long and there is also a 10min leeway after 2hrs period. The more fans who park in these 2hr parking bays the better as the council would need dozens of wardens to photo cars and come back, worth the risk i'd say?
The good: seeing a noticeably much more diverse crowd - lots of women and children plus different ethnicities. Maybe we should make ourselves the Red, White & Black Club instead of it just being a day? Suggested to me that a lot of the extra attendance was the hard core bringing friends and family plus outreach into immediate local community. Not coming along for the Wrexham.
The bad: couldn’t get into River Ale House after the game (so not so bad, went to The Pelton instead.)
I seriously believe that if we made a concerted effort to market every home match locally we could add a couple of thousand to the average gate. Stick the fixtures on Eventbrite and Timeout listings. There really is an audience of people who will come to live football on their doorstep. And they might develop a bit of an affinity for the Addicks - and last minute goals.
totally agree with this. I saw alot of lapsed fans I know and then people who are freindsnof charlton fans. I really didn't see any Wrexham tourists. it felt a welcoming atmosphere and there was a really diverse bunch there (even the kids who kicked the back of my seat all game ) I'd love to see them all back and I think we could achieve getting many back. we all know though, that we need to be winning games and up the top to do. the beat marketing is winning ans the table. fingers crossed.

I saw two cars in Wolfe Cresent alone with tickets on them after the game .

Was a good day out all in all, slightly marred by the fact I was stuck next to some fella id never seen before who started straight away with racist (not sure if the right word) abuse towards James Mclean. No, not just booing but as soon as he touched the ball called him "A F**KING IRISH C**T" and then was homophobic shouting "get up you P**F". Someone had a word and he stopped it but not ideal especially when kids around etc.

McClean gets dogs abuse wherever he goes, I was glad that as a majority we didn't do any of the sectarian chanting he often gets subjected too. He's a bit of a trollop and I'm not going to get into an argument about why he gets targeted but it often goes way too far over the top

McCleans a cock, plays up to it himself. Mullin the same.
Whilst that may or may not be true depending on your opinion (and this is probably not the place to have that debate), I would hope we can all agree abusing someone for their nationality, race, sexuality etc should be left in the past century

Remind me how long half time is?? 🤷🏻♂️😉
Roughly from 15 minutes before the half time whistle until 10 minutes after the restart is my guess, so I’d say 40 minutes.
no idea have many staff the pub has but serving 75 pints in 15 minutes doesn’t sound a lot

Can't really fit more than 2 behind that bar I think but pouring a pint of cask ale is way quicker than lager from a tap, that's the big difference

3 big pumps for a hand drawn cask ale and you've got a pint, especially if you're used to the flow rate of them.
Taking orders, payments and pulling pints at an average of 5 a minute is pretty quick though, I imagine it's one processing payments and the other one pulling them, gets messy otherwise

Football fans are strange. I hope venting for 90 minutes makes them feel better.

I'll give that a try.
May you continue to have great success 👏
