I will say, I have changed my mind about the tournament and think it is a positive way to blood youngsters. It wasn't the youngsters that made us so painful to watch last night. I have been thinking there will be a moment when things click into place but am starting to doubt it now. I think we have been suffering before Sandguard from not having enough players who know where the goal is and then we found one and let him go, although I don't think we could have kept him to be fair. Obviously, that applies to goal creation as well as scoring.
What I feel we need to do is every player we recruit from now on, defender, midfielder or striker has to have goals in their game relative to his position to fix this issue. Yes we have injuries but really the two big losses are two defenders and we are conceding soft goals but not often shedloads. We are not scoring enough and that has been our problem for years now. The problem was allowed to happen and we haven't really solved it properly. I think Curbs has made this point but the fact so many managers seem oblivious to it is worrying. If you Wiki players, not so much youngsters, and look at their career goal records it pretty much tells you what you can expect from them.1 -

Napoleon III actually lived in Chislehurst - in the building that's now the golf club (Camden Place). And his son - the Prince Imperial - was killed in the Zulu war. There's a memorial to him on Prince Imperial Road on the common.
I think they were Palace.0 -

Went to the Valley for this. Poor game, Bromley were poor and we were only slightly better/
Slow and ponderous so what good football we did play lead to little as we gave Bromley team to get back.
Deserved to win but needed two good stops from AMB to do so.
Taylor was poor, Yrnevoc plays it backwards 95% of the time, Berry was phoning it in.
REG was combative and must be worth trying in midfield.
Zac and Enslin both did well but we shouldn't expect too much from them too soon.
Rylah was the biggest disappointment for me as I've seen him play so much better, albeit at U21 and U18 level but he just doesn't yet seem able to translate that skill and speed to first team games. I'd say loan him to the National League but the U21s have no strikers.
Jones sending off was a bit OTT but he shouldn't be getting anywhere near the touchline. We'll see if we bother to appeal it.
Three wins means 3 x £10k plus the base £20k for taking part so £50k in the bank plus more to come from the next game. Costs of opening the ground probably swallow up most if not all of that.
Still much rather we weren't at a level where we had to play in the competition but we are so it is what it is.

Admittedly that is my take, and others might have a clearer idea about what happened.1 -
George Dobson gave 100% every match with tackles and challenges and despite this full on approach didn't get injured.
You can see when a player is fully focused and engaged in a game and George was the epitome of that, hence he rarely got low marks even when he wasn't totally sharp.
How is 60% measured?

Any idea how far DK is from returning???1

Weird how the Charlton stream had the general EFL/Sky commentary all game.0

MuttleyCAFC said:Why not have a word with Jones and maybe book him. But to send him off shows a lack of common sense. My son is a ref and doing well and I had a good discussion with him last night. I said that I felt the game is trying to remove common sense from refs, maybe to make decisions accross the piece more consistent and he agreed but said he would always apply common sense as a cornerstone to how he refs. I said that could hold him back and he said basically, if it does it does but he doesn't want to ref like a robot.

15 hours after the final whistle and I'm still fuming over Berry's lack of effort and attitude last night.
Did he think a former PL player shouldn't be asked to demean himself by taking part in this nonsense of a tournament? Because it sure looked like it as he strolled around, mis hitting his passes and generally looking totally disinterested. Watching him, I had a horrible feeling Ben Watson had returned.
I can understand him thinking at this stage of my career this is not for me but having been selected he could at least put a bit of effort in.1 -
I’m absolutely astonished that over 2,000 Charlton fans went to this0

This felt very much like a jobsworth decision by the two officials - if they had ignored it no one would have been the wiser, the game would not have been disrupted, the result would not have been affected. Yes they were probably right by the letter of the law but FFS!!5 -

For anyone who hasn’t seen the red card “offence”

I can't see how any action we saw there warranted a red card or even a Yellow card ? Surely, only for constant verbals by the Blaenrhodda boy ?*
Edit: Totally wrong it was confirmed by Fleming that it was for encroaching even though it hard to see with the poor quality of vision by the camera.0 -

The lino has deemed him to have encrouched on to the pitch and played the ball.
Im not a ref but that is clearly, if correct, an offence.
But we gained no advantage from it so perhaps a yellow would have been enough but Fleming has said that the ref said he "had" to send him off.
If that is the rule and the ball was still in play then we can't complain.
But others have said Arteta did similar and got a yellow.0 -
My eyes must be playing me up as well as the poster on here who said he didn't step on to the pitch from his viewpoint 7 rows back.
Can everyone see Nathan step on to the pitch from the video posted? It looks to me he's a step outside his managers area but not over the touchline.
No VAR lines to confirm obviously 🙄
Watching on Sky, some posters didn't realize that Miles Leaburn's goal took a deflection when you saw the posts on CL.
Edit: Just heard Fleming do the after match interview so all about encroachment.2 -

no one was anywhere near the ball which was going to bounce out of play and probably in to the crowd he stepped out of his technical area one foot and controlled it and left it there prolly on the line or partially over the line at most if at all , genuinely speeding the game up , no one complained ,seemed really nit picky if it was for that .
im wondering if jones than mouthed back after his telling off1
