Like all in politics he was flawed, but at least he wasn’t on the wrong side with all those princes and princesses of darkness. RIP good trade union man John Prescott.
We’ve seen a lot about Al Gore’s environmental credentials, but he paid tribute to John’s driving influence to the Kyoto Protocol.
He said he had "never worked with anyone in politics - on my side of the pond or his - quite like John Prescott".
He added: "He possessed an inherent ability to connect with people about the issues that mattered to them - a talent that others spend years studying and cultivating, but that was second nature to him."

I had the pleasure of being on the opposite side of the negotiating table to him. I admired him as a man of humour and a passionate trade unionist who said it as he believed - RIP John
Met him at Kings Cross Station, whilst waiting for a train, lovely guy. He was standing near me, I turned round and recognised who he was. Smiled and nodded at him and he came over for a minute to chat. No idea why. It was soon after the Coalition got in and we talked briefly about Cameron etc - he wasn't impressed ;-) He didn't have to come over but he did. RIP
There are so many career politicians these days. Prescott was one of the last Labour politicians that had a "real" job before he became a politician. He was a flawed politician, two jags, affair, punch all if which would have got him crucified by social media today, instead he rode the storm and proved his worth to Labour and the country.
Labour used to be full of former workers / Union stalwarts sadly there are only a few that come up through this route .. Angela Rayner being one.

Genuinely cared for the people he represented and made it from a poor background to fairly high office.
RIP John.
A conviction politician, who cut his cloth to achieve the possible, rather than hold out for the perfect.
Didn't always like him, but respected him.

I met him a few times and he was a complex character.
There is no doubt that he was integral to Blair in connecting him with the grass roots.
Aside from the punch, the Tories mocking his mispronunciation in the house will always stick with me.
