Nathan Jones was first off the pitch at the end, he’s clearly not happy with the fans digging him out for previous performances. Does he not understand the nature of this game?
Clearly? He told you that did he? As he was off down the tunnel?

Why clearly, are you a relative?
Somebody on here said he didn’t applaud the fans and i know he was first off the pitch. Yeah, he’s my brother.

Blimey! I had a migraine this morning, so decided to have a lie down for an hour, and set my alarm for half one to put the Match Thread up as @eastterrace6168 is away.  And I've literally just woken up. I think. 5-0? 2 goals from Docherty, 1 from Hylton? Am I dreaming?

Now 9 clean sheets after 20 games played.

If we can keep today’s levels in the final third going, then we’ll start winning a lot of games very quickly.
  • What a fantastic result delighted for the loyal away fans to get a result like that to end the year

Really hope we can kick on now, Wycombe will obviously be tough but no reason why we can’t beat Cambridge and Crawley

A few players back a bit of January strengthening and we can easily nick 6th in this poor league

But this is the worst team in Charlton’s history according to some?

The absolute excrement I’ve endured and the one bloody day I’m unable to watch.

    Is it me?
    It looks like it  :)

Gives us all 5 days before the next game to enjoy being an Addick again.  Hopefully not a drop in the ocean.

Amazing how views can change so dramatically on one result.  We have a bad result next week and we're back to being s*** again.

I said after the Mansfield game, that Coventry played much better after Taylor was substituted.

But if you don't play Taylor, Berry needs to play for his dead ball delivery.

Result? A 5-0 drubbing for Northampton.
  • Heady with success, Charlton will now relax too much over Christmas and lose on Boxing day

I think what most people were saying was that the performances were the worst ever which was frustrating as the squad was clearly better than what was being served up. I’m sure there has been a change in approach as for the last 1.5 games we have been passing the ball and not hitting it long all the time

Either we have been lulling the league into thinking we are no threat, or Northampton Town must be in the dictionary for the definition of the word appalling.

This is what we want to see, every week.

Let’s hope the squad stays fit and we can string a run of good performances like that.

Much better performance. Doc and Berry finally looked like the players we hoped they would be when we signed them. Small a real positive force and the defence solid, with the little they had to deal with.

Some great team goals and always good to see a mixture of scorers bagging goals.

We have 2 easy games in our next 3. 6 points from Cambridge and Crawley and we may have turned a corner. This is Charlton though, so little point getting carried away after one good performance imo.

Last weekend I got a good few LOLs for saying the style of play was changing - off the back of us playing far fewer long balls against Lincoln and Mansfield. Crawley was a horrendous result but may have been a watershed moment for Jones.

Glad to see more people coming around to the same realisation now we’ve got a big win.

As is almost always the case, while there are views at each end of the spectrum, the truth is somewhere in between.
We haven’t suddenly become world beaters, but we also quite clearly aren’t as shit as we feared. It could be argued that we’ve had a lucky break playing possibly the only team in the league in worse doldrums than us, but it could equally be argued that you can only beat what’s in front of you. As Curbs used to be so fond of saying: “Don’t let the highs get too high or the lows get too low.”

For what it’s worth, my hope is that this result, whether through luck, judgement or simple endeavour, provides the fillip some of our players need. Some belief and confidence is a precious resource, and if we can build a run, even a small one, we’ll be in a significantly better position both in the league table and in the physio room in a handful of games.

First time we’ve won an away game in December in six years. That season, we got promoted at Wembley.

Only four points from the play-offs, a promotion surge looms.
The top 4 are starting to pull away a bit. Could include Stockport into that lot as well. If so then there may just be 1 space up for grabs with about a dozen or so teams fighting for it, with Bolton looking favs to be the 6th team atm.

Still a long long way to go & just shows how shit this league is. I was looking at the league table on the BBC at kick off where it shows the last 6 games played. A whole bunch of teams from 8th downwards were showing more red (loss) than green (win). So many teams are bang average & only the top 4 are winning consistently.

A half decent run could see us in the mix come Feb.

I'm going to say well done to the fans, the journalists (Cawley started questioning Jones) and Gavin Carter (possibly passing on the owner's thoughts) who I'm presuming finally got the message through to Nathan Jones that hoof ball is not acceptable as it wasn't successful.

I think most fans thought in this very poor league that Charlton were under performing and the main reasons were down to hoofing the ball, with no forward passing through the midfield and no width to create space.

Has Nathan Jones has been told he must change the style/tactics and relented?

Anyway, let's just hope it's the turning of the corner and at the very least we can watch some decent football for the rest of the season.
