Looking at the last window, it would seem that Jones influence was very good on the defensive signings made but poor on the attacking ones - previously, scott's windows appeared to be no good in any department (May being an outlier and a 'one off', not credited to Scott and coventry jury out compared to dobson let go) - edun, watson, reg and gillesphy - arguably none are fit for purpose. Small, Ramsey, Mitchell and Edwards - all fit for purpose with hector and thomas correctly let go. Ahadme, Godden, Berry and possibly A Campbell are more attacking players signed under Jones and only Berry has shown to be worthy of the first 11, whilst letting May go must be viewed as a negative. So, Scott has delivered nothing but duds in my book recruitment wise and jones has delivered defensively, midfield jury is out and attacking wise has failed to date. Can he get the attacking side right in the next 2 windows is the question - Aneke's wages will be freed up and possibly Leaburn's in the summer but with the right couple of signings in this window (another winger and an attacking midfielder - both with pace ), we may just sneak up and keep Leaburn. It's a work in progress and lets hope NJ can improve on the attacking side of things.4

Aren’t 99% of managers…..it goes with the territory, they have to have 100% belief in their ability, anything less is going to go to the dogs very rapidly.BigDiddy said:

Problem with NJ? he is a know-all…..

I rated Clucas , but when I previously suggested him I was told NJ and him fell out. I also suspect he wouldn't come south. He is the type of player we need , but have his legs gone?
Signing him would be like a short term loan but Jones seems to like short term deals for veterans like Wickham , Lua Lua , Hylton and Potts0 -
Would be madness to give any sort of contract to a 34 year old in the NL. There’s so little chance of that working positively. Taking chances on players whose legs are going or have gone has been one of the issues with our recruitment in recent years. We’ve not got it right often enough.15

It would take him at least a month to get fit, then another month to get match fit.Scoham said:Would be madness to give any sort of contract to a 34 year old in the NL. This ain't Ronaldo we're talking about.
A 34 year old from Non League is NOT what we need!5 -
I don't for one second think we should sign him but who said he was injured? He's played 90 minutes in all of their last 4 league games so he must be reasonably match fit.supaclive said:

my assumption was that they meant the fitness levels required in league one compared to NL. But I may be wrong.2

Quotes at the end of this suggest midfield isn’t an area we’ll strengthen but we might go for wingers (that’s me reading between the lines)

Would read that as a No10 and a winger as the main targets.7 -
isn't Thierry's contract up now or the end of the season?fenaddick said:Quotes at the end of this suggest midfield isn’t an area we’ll strengthen but we might go for wingers (that’s me reading between the lines)

Great to see NJ talking about a few signings in the final third, as much as we could look to upgrade on a GK and LCB, attacking midfield and our wide has to be the priority. With the number of strikers we have I can’t see him meaning up front either.MarcusH26 said:fenaddick said:Quotes at the end of this suggest midfield isn’t an area we’ll strengthen but we might go for wingers (that’s me reading between the lines)

Small is supposed to be in the "Middle of lengthy negotiations to get an extension signed"...
...More chance of pissing into the wind and not getting wet with that one...🤦♂️1 -
Guessing this is just FLW reporting old news, can’t imagine Wycombe signing 3 CB’s

Sounds like we are looking for what we need. Just hope we can deliver the signings that are good enough to make the difference3

How does this tally with the discussion from the last couple of days? I hear we are rejecting bids for our players too… doesn’t seem like the owners are checked out to me.Scoham said:https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/sport/charlton-dont-need-player-outgoings-before-they-can-make-transfer-window-signings/We want 1 or 2 signings and they aren’t reliant on outgoings happening first.12 -

He wasn’t too bad for the first 15mins then completely anonymous. Not sure what he would offer us though. Nowhere near as good as Leaburn and very similar to GasScoham said:

Also a nice sneaky little comment in there to try and get Small to sign a new deal, reminding him that this is the first time he's had a home at a clubScoham said:https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/sport/charlton-dont-need-player-outgoings-before-they-can-make-transfer-window-signings/We want 1 or 2 signings and they aren’t reliant on outgoings happening first.
