  • Fight for European spots is wide open this season.

    Only 5 points between 4th and 10th.

Top 2 have champions league sorted, and Forest consistency looks good for CL too.

But the other places for Champions League and Europa is really hard to call.
  • This is surely the most boring Prem season ever? Bottom 3 already as good as relegated. Top miles in front. The race to 4th isn't exactly a thriller is it!
I definitely feel that there's been a serious drop off in quality this season.

City way below their usual standards, Arsenal not as good as the past 2 years, Villa not as good as last year, Spurs and Man U have both been absolutely awful, Newcastle and Chelsea both pretty hit and miss.

Brighton are 7th despite only winning 12 of their 29 games.

Yeah apart from Liverpool, Forest are probably one of only 3-4 other teams who've had a good season. Brighton, Fulham and Brentford are the only other sides who i think would be happy with their season compared to last. Even Chelsea who currently sit 4th are playing poorly and i've seen a few fans wanting Maresca gone.

Not sure that Newcastle fans think that they have performed below expectation. Having finished 7th last season, as a result of having virtually a team out injured for the season and having bought next to no one in the last three windows, they have just won their first trophy for 55 years (are now in Europe next season as a result) and if they win their game in hand they will be in the top four.
  • Leicester have set a somewhat unworthy PL record - seven consecutive home defeats and without scoring a goal.

Villa have had an excellent season too, you expect a drop off in league form for a team in the Champions League for the first time, and getting to the last 8, with still having a chance of Top 4/5 is a great achievement. Plus they are still in the FA Cup.

Fair point regarding winning a trophy but i was talking purely about league form as the discussion was around the quality of the league this year. Last year they were 7th, this year they're currently 6th. Obviously if they get CL then it will be a success.

Again i was talking purely about the league. Yes they've had a great run in Europe and the fans will have had some great nights, but i don't think they'll beat PSG and if they don't win the FA Cup and were to end the season out of Europe next year then has it been a good season?

The owners will be looking at the revenue they've made from the CL this year and thinking they need more of that for PSR reasons to progress the club.

  • You can only sum it up at the end of the season.

Are we having a good, bad season?

If we get promoted either way then it's great season, miss out and it's a crap season.

We were 16th last year and only won 11 games. Obviously we want to get promoted but even if we finish in the play offs but then don't get promoted i'd still argue it was a decent season because of the clear progress.

Every season we are in league 1 and don’t get promoted it’s a crap season.
  • Although I like Liverpool (historical based on my sister being mad on the Beatles), was pleased to see Newcastle win the League Cup and there is a chance we will get a new modern time FA Cup winner, if Man City form continues, as well as the possibility of Nottingham Forest  finishing top 4.  Almost a throw back to when i was a kid and everybody had some sort of chance of a trophy (slightly old rose tinted glasses - but it did feel like every one had an opportunity to at least compete).

And when a cup win really meant something.

If Liverpool (or City, United, Arsenal, Chelsea) had won the EFL Cup yesterday, it would have been a completely non story, with no mass celebrations anywhere.
  • I hope whoever wins the FA Cup doesn't wear red and blue vertical stripes, other than that I don't care this season.

I think for anyone outside the "big 6" then a foray into Europe and trying to win a domestic cup is about as good as it gets. Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Newcastle, West Ham, Brighton, Everton, Forest are currently/have done so in recent seasons, for everyone else it's pretty much a case of try and survive (Fulham, Brentford, Palace, Wolves, the 3 promoted teams)

In this very unlucky scenario Palace could finish 11th and get into Europe 🤢

    Come on the 🐝s
  • I think I saw it correctly if Bournemouth got into Europe they couldn't play at Dean Court? Something to do with one of the stands not being permanent?

Would have to play at St Mary's.

  • That stand has been up about 3/4 years so sounds fairly permanent.

A lot of people online are being quite sceptical about this. Common theory seems to be that this move is just a temporary thing before he goes to Newcastle.

That wouldn't actually be too much of a bad theory. Whole thing seems to have come out of the blue and seems a bit odd from Freedman.

  • I thought the club he is going to, is going to be quite involved in the Saudi world Cup

It's not like Liverpool have even been THAT good to deserve basically winning the league in March. They are the best team yes and by quite a long way but they are essentially a good team that has Salah posting ridiculous numbers up front.

They deserve to win don't get me wrong but that's primarily because no-one else has been good enough to give them a real fight rather than them being a real step above quality wise.

Yeah feels like the worst the big teams have done since the Leicester year - even if Arsenal win all 9 they've got left (which they won't) they'll only have 85 points, 86 isn't a bit amount to win it these days.

The closing of the gap between the other Big 5/6 clubs and the rest has been excellent though.

City games have become interesting, because they can't sweep the rest of the league aside, and while many expected them to surge to third or even second with their usual post Christmas dominance, it's not happened. They lost to Forest and should have lost to Brighton.

Kind of maybe? Again it comes down to have "the rest" stepped up collectively or are we just having a weird fluke season where 5 out of the Big 6 are collectively shitting the bed, or maybe a bit of both.

Quite hard to judge honestly, if we see a similar pattern next season too then we can draw more conclusions.
  • Leicester have set a somewhat unworthy PL record - seven consecutive home defeats and without scoring a goal.
If only they had managed to keep clean sheet in all those games 😉

Indeed, would only be 2 points off safety.
