decent 'start debut' last night .. not as commanding or as assertive as Jones, but went about his business generally in a calm and forceful way .. I think he'd like to join us f/t and probably will come promotion .. unfortunately that might put Alex Mitchell's place at risk
If Mitchell can't get into our team in L1, then it's unlikely he has a future with us if we go up.
Always need a squad though, he’s unfortunate he’s competing with two of our best players in Ramsay and Jones, and now McIntyre, who originally was probably mainly competition for Gillesphey.
I was a little surprised he came in for Jones last night, I thought Mitchell would suit that role the best (probably better than the right sided centre back role).
Far play to Mcintyre though he did a solid job.
I think NJ believes McIntyre is better with the ball at his feet. Mitchell is more an old fashioned "blood and guts" CB.
I wonder where Zach Mitchell will fit in when he returns. Getting very good reviews in Scotland.
Work colleague who is Reading ST holder is friends with his Dad, stated he is really enjoying his time even though minutes have been sparse, says there is a real buzz about the place

I agree. But the way we set up it's the 2 outside CB's who are expected to do things with the ball. Jones generally passes to them or Cov/keeper. Mitchell is perfectly able to do that and I think his physical and aerial ability would better suit thay central role. Even more so in a tough northern away game.
Taking nothing away from Mac who did well. I just think AM is better suited to that role.

With his first game under his belt, McIntyre gives us a lot of options. If Small has an off day, Ramsay could go back to his wing back role and has proved last night, he's an able deputy for any of the back three. Someone posted that he was left footed but I thought he was comfortable with both feet last night.

In the long run I'd almost expect the back three to be as per the below, that of course relies on Tom being made into a permanent signing - But regardless of whether we're in League One or the Championship - Is that a "bad" choice of options to have in Defence next season?

Ramsay / Z.Mitchell - Jones / A.Mitchell - Gillesphey / McIntyre
