I saw 'Playhouse Creatures' at The Orange Tree in Richmond last night, an exuberant, warm and entertaining comedy drama about the first group of women (including Nell Gwyn) who were permitted to perform on stage in the 1660s. A very good cast of five, including Anna Chancellor.0

Saw Romeo and Juliet there last year as part of the same series, and at £10/£5 for standing tickets what's not to like. Studied it over 20 years ago so hopefully I've a clue what's going on
I saw a Macbeth there where the play started with great noise and soldiers raining down on the stage on zip wires, the kids were engaged from the start.1 -

Booked tickets for the Tina Turner musical for next month. Saw it with my wife a few years ago but we're taking our daughter this time.1 -
Went to County Hall to see "Witness For The Prosecution". Not often I give something 10/10, but this was fantastic and a definite 10/10 from us. Great setting, and a brilliant stage where you are right in the action. Fantastic performance. We had front row seats in the courtroom and you were really right in the action. You can get "Witness box" seats and take part too if you wish. I would recommend this if you fancy a night up town. Have a look at the YouTube videos.
And I had never been in County Hall before - what a lovely building and a great use of it too.1 -
Saw the new Mischief Theatre show this evening. Comedy about Spies. Admittedly my daughter and I are huge fans of everything Mischief have done, but have to say this was up there as possibly their best show yet. Long time since I have left a theatre with jaw ache from laughing so much. If you like The Play That Goes Wrong etc highly recommend this.

Just booked for Evita at The Palladium for 2 September - my birthday present from Mrs M (although my birthday is the end of May!). Hotel and a meal before included - she's a keeper.By far my favourite ALW/TR musical.0

Saw Cockfosters at The Southwark Playhouse this evening. Very good fringe production. Very funny.
Basic premise is 2 strangers meet on the Picadilly Line at Heathrow and travel the entire length to Cockfosters - encountering every annoyance the Tube has to offer along the way. Added bonus of rap battles and several pretty interesting history lessons.
Only 70mins, but well worth seeing.0 -
In case anyone has missed the announcement. The Inside No9 Stage Fright tour has been extended. Now 3 shows at the Churchill in Bromley. Tickets currently available for all 3 shows.1

To give my daughter a day off revising/GCSE exams, I booked tickets to see Hamilton on Saturday. Didn't expect there'd be many tickets left at such short notice but there were plenty and not too dear. Never seen it before.0

Just been to see Rosetta and Marie at the Rose Theatre in Kingston. Not sure how long left it’s to run but I would recommend seeing it. Only 1:30hrs or so but excellent singing led by Beverley Knight as Rosetta.1

Went to see Evita on Monday at the London Palladium. Apart from the scene when she sang Don’t cry for me Argentina from the theatre’s balcony, I thought it was boring. Why do musicals have the volume so loud?0
-
I also went to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to see Carly Paoli and Friends. Lots of Hollywood to Broadway songs with guests appearances by Charlie Stemp, David Phelps and the Italian version of Tom Jones called Al Bano with Jae Alexander conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
I believe that Carly Paoli is being touted as the new Sara Brightman/Kathleen Jenkins. The show was recorded for the Asian market.
I must admit it’s not my scene and again the sound was too loud (ditto Evita) but i at least knew some of the songs.

Just seen Evita and wow hands down the best show in the West end and show of the year. That was insane on another level. Rachel Zegler has the best voice I've ever heard. And will easily win every theatre award going!0

Booked tickets to see Ghost Stories at The Churchill the day before my birthday. Loads of good plays coming up in town, but as we have limited opportunities and some we want to see are just not on at the right time, we are trying to decide between The Importance of Being Earnest ( Stephen Fry as Lady B ), The Wier, Entertaining Mr Sloane, or Dracula (at Hammersmith Lyric) either 29th September or in October when we are over for the Sheffield Weds game.0

Saw The Great Gatsby recently, I'd not read the book but it's one of my wife's favourites.
She absolutely loved it, I thought it was good too - the songs aren't the most memorable but the cast were really good, and the staging is very well done between projections and physical sets.
Also got cheap tickets to Back to the Future recently, love the films but thought the musical was pretty average - effects were alright but the songs were pretty forgettable, and it all just felt like a poor impression of the films (acting included) rather than offering anything new or interesting.0
