I’ll certainly miss this trip (albeit not the quality of the football) next season, given the 52 minute train journey from London and pubs of the calibre of the Kingston Arms, The Haymakers, Calverley’s Brewery and The Devonshire.

I seem to have built a reputation over the years of hearing Charlton concede a goal as I turn the radio on.
Yesterday, after gardening at my son's house I returned to the car at five to five, switched the radio on - blissfully unaware that Charlton was the featured game. At that moment a Cambridge player was attacking our goal and the commentator's voice rose to a crescendo. NOOO! ... I was too late to switch the radio off again, but was relieved to hear the commentator describe the shot as over the bar, over the roof of the stand and into the River Cam. Lost ball.
It was still too close for my comfort though and I dutifully turned the radio off so that Charlton could see out the game. No need to thank me, it's just what I do.

Can’t believe a small club with relegation written all over them didn’t try and play a nice game of football with us , lay down and die tamely for us , the pure cheek of trying to play on the edge and rough up our best player , well I never , who’da thought it .
My scum Tourette’s kicked in as soon as Harris was on the screen …..
Solid enough performance and the play offs as good as guaranteed , a while back I predicted play off final failure and I’m sticking with that .
3 play off final wins
3 play off semi final losses
we got 3 play off Final losses coming up to square it all up .
TC our only real attacking threat apart from the footballing nous of Godden , thankfully the defence held strong but the real tests are to come .
Miraculous turnaround by us can we please complete the miracle .
scum knocking on Champ play off door , palace confirmed in prem , please can we stop being so far behind our rivals , please please please .9 -
I've been hospitalised for the last 7 weeks. I can only listen to games, and yesterday we won ugly!
A few months ago people were shouting for NJ's head...he asked us to stick with him....we did and he's delivered so far.
Charlton on the way back up? Yup I think we might be!! COYR'S30 -
I think the type of game that Cambridge forced it to become did little to allow the footballers on the pitch to thrive. Coventry and Small suffered in particular to long bouts of head tennis and when the ball did end up, almost always by accident on the floor, it didn't stay there very long before it was either in touch or back in the air. I thought the back three were solid without being outstanding, and that may have a lot to do with Cambridge not posing a threat for most of the 90 mins. Thankfully the next four games are against sides that want to play football, interesting to see how Northampton fair with Terry Taylor sitting in the stands, and I'm hoping that Golfie's prediction about Blackpool making a late charge bears fruit, they would have to get something away to Stevenage and then at home to Wrexham on Bank holiday, if that were the case. If we did the business against Northampton and Wycombe, then Charlton's visit to Wrexham would take on even more significance. Whatever happens, it's been the best season since Lee Bowyers promotion via the play offs and even if we were to cash in one our stars, then what is coming through gives me hope that we can keep progressing, I've got my season ticket for next year on that basis and looking to cheer the lads on for the final part of this one.3

A very scrappy game that players hate, especially midfielders, balls flying above you from one end to the other,no chance to bring the ball down and be creative,it got a bit better when Anderson came on . No words to explain Aneke, he even walks slow, can't run.0

On the note of Chuks, how shit must Jones think Gassan is that not only Chuks get in ahead of him, but a completely unproven Mbick.
Chuks is beyond lazy now, it's actually a bit of a liberty at this point. I'd rather Mbick be on the pitch ahead of him, Chuks has lost everything about him that made him as impactful as he was, and with this run of games being so important there should be no room for sentiment.10 -
The funniest moment of the game was Michael Morrison doing a desperate run up the right wing in front of the Charlton fans, which got him a big round of applause from us and an embarrassed smile from him12

Chuks maybe slow but he can hold the ball up, shield it and pass it to another cafc player, most can't20

He literally passed the ball off the pitch for a throw in yesterday under next to no pressure, and let a ball go straight by him all because it looked like he couldn't be bothered. Cause I sure as shit know he ain't daft.
I'm sorry but it's taking the piss. 8 grand a week or whatever it is, should warrant far more. Hopefully after this season it's the last we see of players soaking up wages and having little impact on our team.3 -
Busy yesterday so delighted to discover we won away. I think those 3 points have sealed a top 6 finish unless we implode completely in our last 4 matches. Conversely hopes of automatic promotion have disappeared I believe.0

Sometimes you have to play with the hand you are dealt.
Frankly I find it ridiculous you've felt the need to say to me to have a bit more faith in the manager when I've said nothing bad about him.
It's a post match thread discussion and my focus is on a player who when he comes on, it feels like we have 10 men, that's it.
If Godden was 5 years younger, and Tyreece wasn't carrying a bit of a knock, Chuks wouldn't even be coming on in his current form.4 -
I would really rather people don’t criticise Chuks in the way they do. There was a lot of moaning at him in the ground at the game.Hes clearly not what he has been in the past, but I really feel people’s opinion of him is being heavily guided by the perception of negative trajectory Vs being able to look objectively at the contribution he offers today and whether it is still additive to us. Which I feel it is.Everyone is blowing smoke up Mbick’s arse for a brief cameo yesterday and he really didn’t do a lot. I don’t agree Chuks isn’t working hard, he is just not as mobile as he was in the past but to me he looks like he is putting it in as best as he can.I’ve seen plenty of pisstakers in our shirts over the years, I know what they look like and I really don’t think he is one. Age and injury catch up with everyone eventually. He still comes on and gets stuck into defenders, tries to hold it up - and crucially even when he’s not been at it lately he still almost always without fail has a meaningful attempt or 2 on goal. He nearly scored a beauty at Mansfield and assisted TC, and again nearly scored a beauty and another decent effort against Lincoln. Even when he had a shocker at Posh the other week he came on and had a header over the bar at the back post which was one of our best chances of the game.We spent the first half of the season with Ahadme up and a struggling TC up front who often went entire matches without a meaningful attempt on goal between them.Chuks is not the messiah and he’ll be off in the summer, but he’s the best backup we have and could yet have an enormous role to play for us in the remaining games / play offs and to me looks like he really wants to contribute.I say let’s get behind the fella.62

Heading into the play-offs, I'd much rather Chuks than Josh Parker.10
-
I would also add that if there is one manager we’ve had in recent years who wouldn’t abide a piss taker, I think Jones is he.
Regardless of the quality of his contribution at the moment, the fact Jones is keenly utilising him game after game I think can tell us all definitively that he is giving his all.15 -
I agree with this totally. Every time Chuks comes on our team dynamic changes for the positive, play moves much more into the final third cloest to the oppo goal and a lot of that is down to what Chuks dioes.
he isn't the destroyer he once was but still has a bery positive contribution.
Now Gillesphey is playing better people seem to need something to moan about and someone to scapegoat and that is currently Chuks as he is no longer offering what he once did. That he contributes in other ways (also lost count of the defensive headers he won yesterday) seems to be overlooked by people who imo should know better.8 -

Anyway, each to their own, I can't stand when he comes on the pitch now, hopefully I'm eating my words by the end of the season.3 -
Just like many were overrating Chuks when he was ‘contributing more’, I think many are underrating his contribution now.
Yesterday when he did his job absolutely fine, the moment he came on, the ball started sticking up top a lot more than he did previously did.
Brazillance you seem to take posts against you and your opinion very personally, but I do think you open yourself up to the sort of rebuttals you get when your opinion is often so strong.
I don’t think Jones is the sort of manager to let anyone ‘cruise’. And considering the obvious squad harmony and togetherness I’d say it’s more likely everyone is pulling their weight - rather than Chuks stealing a living because he’s not ‘as good’ as he once was.17
