But we have to beat 2 teams so technically are there not 3 teams in it from our perspective as one will get knocked out without playing us, so does that mean our chances are 33.3333% ? I'll just get an aspirin.2

I thought that we were outplayed by the Cobblers football wise but fortunate enough they couldn’t put the ball in the onion bag.The teams that will finish up in the play off positions will be more efficient in front of goal - look at Leyton Orient banging in the goals.
I won’t be too displeased if we don’t get promotion this season - do we have a strong enough team to last in the Championship (I’m not that confident). Should we fail this season, I”m hopeful that next season will be the lasts in the third tier.
As Charlton fans we only ever tend to watch Charlton games week in week out, and our views are very blinkered by that - but the reality is most games towards the end of the season are like this, and loads of performances are like this, as teams tighten up because mistakes can be so costly.
However the stats don’t lie, and over the last 6 and 10 games (apart from Birmingham who are an anomaly for obvious reasons) we are pretty much up there for all metrics.

Or, is that Wycombe were 7th in the table the first COVID year they won the playoffs, by means of pts /game.0 -
The fixture list has really made it exciting and really challenging to call who will get that 2nd place. Bookies have it a straightforward choice between Wycombe & Wrexham, but I think it’s a lot more complicated than that. On current from I think it’s more likely for Charlton or Stockport to win their remaining 3 fixtures than Wrexham are to win their 3 matches.
I am treating the Wycombe match as the first leg of the play off semi final, rather a cup match when just got to win. More hoping we can win, but wouldn’t be too disappointed if we get a draw and a good performance.Even if we get a draw against Wycombe, I do hope their won’t be overreaction we saw on here after the defeat to Birmingham.0 -
Really can't see us winning at Wycombe. Wrexham yes as they are starting to panic now & moving their game for tv purposes seemed to say is was for a promotion party.....and I'd love to burst their balloons !!
Wycombe seemed to have righted their ship of late and also we are patchy at best away from home.
However.....the pressure could all be on them & if we did nick 3 points I bet their fans wont be looking forward to facing Orient & Stockport in their final 2 games !
And it only really hit home yesterday that we are in the play offs and all that it means. Home & away games for a trip to Wembley.1 -
Game by game. Win Monday and we are well in the race for 2nd.14
-
I just hope people keep some perspective should we suffer a narrow loss in the next couple of games.
While still possible, 2nd is unlikely. The next two games will be great indicators of how we are likely to fare in an away playoff leg heading into them. In the playoffs, even a narrow loss away from home isn’t a disaster and a draw is a good result.21 - Sponsored links:

Got a feeling Blackpool are gonna do Wrexham. Blackpool are a decent side and have something to play for, especially at home where they don't lose many.
Reckon Wycombe will get 2nd if they avoid defeat vs us, they've pulled their finger out at the right time. You look at their squad yesterday and there's quality throughout.
If it ain't us I do hope it's them. Got no real hard feelings towards them.7 -

Yes, I just looked it up. How times change. Brentford lost to Tranmere in the play-off semis and Fulham came 21st, only missing out on relegation to the fourth tier because of a league reorganisation. Remarkably, the three teams that got automatic promotion, Cambridge, Southend and Grimsby had all come up from the fourth tier the previous season.2

Can someone remind me of the playoff semi finals dates?0

Win all games - still very unlikely - and I think we finish second. Before today I expected us to win at Wycombe, I'm now lukewarm on that.
The Wycombe win at Bolton today makes the relevant permutations simple for the next few days - beat Wycombe on Monday and we're in the hunt, don't beat them we're not.
Wycombe are not all that!0 -
I predicted we'd miss out on the play offs on goal difference. I was wrong. I own my misjudgement and offer no weasel words to excuse it, unlike some on here when proved wrong. I'm not an expert and don't claim to be, but I'm really pleased a play off place is now guaranteed.1

I am firmly concentrating on us keeping our form going through the playoffs.Top 2 is out of our hands even if we win out.1

Wycombe are not all that!
Agree BUT...
League 1 is a bang average mediocre league and when I checked last night Wycombe are in an automatic position so with 3 games to go they are in the driving seat and with a home game against CAFC on Easter Monday and with Wrexham dropping 4 points against relegation threatened sides their demise as predicted by many on CL that Wycombe would finish 5th is looking like another mass poor forecast.
Jones and the players have to believe they can win at Wycombe and Wrexham may drop more points at Blackpool.
As a fan unlike when I was a coach and manager of a boy's team I can't personally influence the result and it still feels a long shot of being promoted as the many decades of being a fan have taken it toll with the myriad of disappointments with a couple of Wembley exceptions and the 100+ club in League 1 under CP.
The first 18 games or so of being erratic and unsure of using the width of the pitch will probably ultimately cost cafc the chance of the 2nd spot after money bags Birmingham.
It still feels amazing to me that we have a Guaranteed Play off place after the debacle of the home defeat to Crawley with 3 games to go. Despite the hyperbolic talk from Nathan after various games he is our crazy guy and our season is still alive for the first time in yonks.
I really hope the couple of American money men can see the potential of this club after being at the valley yesterday and seeing that we should be a competitive Championship side so whatever happens this season we are stronger in August than we are now.
That really will be difficult if we are still in League 1.

The current top 6 are all unbeaten in the last 3 games, with Wycombe and Orient winning all 3, and Wrexham having just the 1 win.
Shockingly Bolton and Huddersfield have both lost the last 3 games, it's hard to see either making the playoffs.
