Horner says they lost by 2.4secs...
But I reckon without the penalty; Piastri would have attacked before the pit stops.
He was forever hanging around just on the edge of 1sec... Seemed to me as though Oscar was being smart, staying far enough back to ensure his tyres didn't get chewed up by following in dirty air, and was happy to complete the overtake in the pits, he was then able to take the lead and manage the conditions in clean air.
The alternative was to take the fight on track, and end up worse off... possibly even a DNF, given the reputation that Max has created for himself, what with his defending in Mexico etc.

Due to the timing of races in my time zone and other commitments on a Sunday, I usually watch races on demand later in the day and avoid this thread for spoilers. I logged in earlier and saw 42 unread posts and thought "either something exciting happened or Verstappen's been a prick and got away with it again". Turns out it was the latter.0

Such a contrast to Piastri.
Behaving like a petulant child in the cool down room!
He really doesnt like it when he doesnt win, but is probably the worst loser out there
It's like the famous Vince Lombardi quote - "show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser."2 -
Whilst I thought it was incredibly cynical from both RB and MV, I do have a grudging respect for their approach in what is a very cut-throat business.
My thoughts are that MV knew that if OP led out of the first corner he would disappear up the road and manage a healthy gap to him.
the gamble was, knowing he’d likely take a 5 second penalty, that if he could stay in front he may be able to force OP to overwork his tyres. That or a wild card like a safety car could give him a chance of pitting and keeping the lead - even with a penalty.
Basically Red Bull really grasp the rule book and know how to “game the system” to their benefit. As I say, you’ve got to grudging admire that in a sport of such tiny margins…4 -

Whatever you think of the incident we can all agree that Horner walking around the paddock with a printed photo to “prove” Piastri wasn’t ahead is embarrassing

Basically, Piastri would have probably won if he led at the corner in question. I think it was his corner so a 5 second penalty was fair. I think this difficulty in overtaking is becoming a serious issue for the sport.0

Jeddah is a weird track where bar the first year where no one knew it , it doesn't really produce thrillers. I'm not convinced Quiddya when it's eventually ready (if ever) will be any better though.
The Miami car park I would expect to be advantage McLaren too. Maybe George as their nearest contender?0 -

Interesting that the stewards note says they reduced it from a 10 second penalty because it was the first lap. Not too sure how I feel about that, I get the logic but it incentivises risk in the first corner. Have to see if it’s done through the season too0

It's like saying in football, "I'll only give you a yellow card and not a red, even though you deserved it, because it's only the 2nd minute".1 -

Fairly often you see a ref let an early challenge go that would be bookable later on.0 -
The Channel 4 commentators were saying that most drivers would give the place back and that would be the end of it but Max prefers to keep the place and let the stewards sort it out. I can sort of understand that as, if the stewards decide not to take any action you haven't lost out but, if you are going to take that stance, STOP FRIKKIN' WHINING ABOUT THE STEWARDS!!!2

They may absolutely suck in recent years, but Ferrari are pretty decent at reminding you how good they once were.
Also went on a factory tour where there's strictly no photos and videos only to be greeted by Lewis jumping out the back of an Alfa Romeo and heading into the Driver's technical centre! The tour guide on our bus was absolutely speechless and said in 15 years of doing tours she's never bumped into a driver in that way!9 -
Looks like Caddy will announce their livery and Perez this weekend.1

Sounds like Max is late arriving for the Miami GP this week, as Kelly Piquet is giving birth to their daughter - Red Bull are saying that he'll still be taking part this weekend... But congratulations to them both2

Love how Ferrari have resorted to adding Blue to their cars and uniforms this weekend just to avoid being associated to any red MAGA hats ha1

Ferrari livery is awful this weekend2

If they made a one off livery based on this, a Blue Ferrari that raced in Le Mans and IMSA, with HP as the main sponsor, it would create something unique. Instead they try to retain as much red as possible and just mush on a load of sponsors and a horrible blue and white bit to appease HP0 -
