When will England accept the Bashir experiment has failed? He’s just not very good. I don’t watch as much cricket as I used to, but I can honestly say I’ve never seen him get a wicket with a good ball - always seems to be a full toss/half tracker smashed straight at a fielder or some other mistake from the batsman.

Rehan Ahmed with a century opening for Leicestershire after getting 77 last week. We know he’s liked by the England setup but if he can open and bowl with more control he could become very hard to ignore

Bashir going wicketless in Div 2 , surely it's got to be Ahmed Vs Zimbabwe?
England's number one is 2-304 this season. He's still learning and facing India (here) and Australia (away) is not the place to be doing it.

Toyota are the new sponsors of the England team.

Zak features in the kit launch video, so they can't drop him now  :D

    If you mean Farhan, maybe

They might also be tempted by Coles who burgled a 5fer against Surrey and can bat

    Vaughan is another intriguing option

Coles got that Michelle when Surrey were chasing quick runs ..it included a dodgy lbw,a leg side strangle and a played on full toss...it definitely was a burgle tbh I can't see him as a test bowler

Coles is not a Test bowler but has a knack of picking up a wicket when you desperately need one. He’s a promising bat; it depends whether he pushes on or just become a good County player.

I see Coles way more as a white ball player than a test player. Archie Vaughan probably the better bet for red ball along with Jack Carson.

Then again you have Jacob Bethell for left arm spin and can bat middle order in white ball.

Bethell seems to be stuck in a bit of a eternal vicious circle. He doesn't bowl enough overs anywhere to learn his game and isn't trusted enough to be brought on as a regular for England for that reason - 15.2 overs in 3 Tests, 23 overs in 9 ODIs and 3 overs in 10 T20Is. Bethell (aged 21) has 10 wickets in 23 FC matches whereas Vaughan (aged 19) has 18 wickets in 7 FC matches and is the reason that Bashir keeps getting sent out on loan.

Oh excellent, a new young player with fresh ideas and no connection to the previous regime

I think this is rather a reflection of the current pool of candidates. With the exception of Sophie Ecclestone who is, equally, very much still part of the previous regime, do we have any young up and coming women cricketers that are anywhere near world class especially with the bat?

And to address the issues in the recent Ashes series, Mike Gatting has been made fitness coach, and Phil Tufnell fielding coach.

I want to know what did Monty Panesar do not to get the fielding coach gig? Last time I saw him play for the PCA about three years ago - he was at third man and the ball was "run down" to him on the boundary, no more than five yards from where he was originally stationed - but he never got within two yards of it. Actually, forget that, what did he do not get both jobs, given that he has his very own "training to get fit" stream on Instagram?

It will be very funny when Crawley and Bashir are selected despite appalling starts to the season

At least Crawley got a 50, there's no basis for selecting Bashir other than loyalty

Cricinfo reporting Bashir is going to be in the squad. He will also be Englands most capped bowler with Tongue, Potts and Atkinson expected to be the others selected

If Bashir is picked, it makes you wonder what he can do to be dropped.

No idea why they are sticking with Bashir. Think Tom Haines is a bit unlucky not to be involved too

If we play Crawley again this summer then we deserve to get walloped in the Ashes next winter .

I can’t see any hope in The Ashes. We will do well to win one.

I agree but you have to give yourself the best chance and Crawley is a liability.

About time they picked Sam Cook. It will be interesting to see if they actually pick him to play because I can't believe that they won't give Bashir time in the middle before the India series. Cox is the other obvious omission.

Why is the squad announcement so early? The game is nearly 3 weeks away.

Think they have a week long training camp at Loughborough. Will also include periphery figures though so does seem a bit premature

Better to announce the squad early so that those that are out of form have the knowledge that they are going to be selected regardless. Those players in question will probably not then play for their respective counties but "will be working on their game with England in advance of the massive Test against Zimbabwe".
