  • Bashir has been packed off to Glamorgan and so far he has returned figures of 22-2-92-0 (ER 4.18). It's not his fault that the CC is mainly played at the wrong time of year for spinners to take wickets but he's not offering any control either.

Essex, on the road that is Chelmsford, scored 582-6 and Surrey in reply are 109-1. Harmer's figures to date are 13-3-16-0 (ER 1.23).

Harmer isn't qualified to play for England but the common denominator is that both are offies - one has 66 career wickets at 50.65 (ER 3.62) and the other has 947 wickets at 26.32 (ER 2.86). Our number one spinner has next to zero experience but the ECB expect him to be successful in taking wickets and/or holding an end up in the forthcoming Test series against India and Australia.

Tom Banton with a triple hundred for Somerset. That's quite the comeback from someone who's career looked down in the dumps.

Exactly the type of player Key will take a gamble on too.....
    All out for 371!
  • Harry Brook appointed white ball captain, in both formats.

31-4-4-92 going at 2.93 for Jack Carson for Sussex at Edgbaston on a pitch that hasn't offered a great deal. No idea why Bashir is favoured. Should at least give Carson the Zimbabwe test to see what he can do. Hove will be a road as well probably this season.
  • Matthew Waite for fuckin England
  • Jack Leach bowling 65 overs in an innings and Archie Vaughan 50 is quite impressive from Somerset

Worcester somehow held on for a draw!

Brings up an interesting debate, Banton’s innings was superb but should he have been called in earlier? In any other team sport there’s no way a result would be potentially jeopardised for the sake of one individual

Of course but Somerset batted 150 and weren’t even close to being bowled out. Wicket clearly favoured batting and Somerset just about misjudged it. If someone is scoring that high then there’s always a chance that a team can bat out a lot of overs

Away from England, Will Pucovski has retired due to his repeated concussions.

It's not difficult to understand why Somerset are happy to send England's number one out on loan - 17 career wickets in the CC for Somerset, Worcester and Glamorgan at 80.59 each with an ER of 3.46. In addition to Leach, they have Vaughan who has 16 wickets at 26.31 and an ER of 2.36 and he can open the batting too.

Absolutely , Vaughan gives you a top order batter and Leach will play every game he's fit for.

I don't really know what Key and Mccullum see in Bashir that's worth persisting with.

They are pot committed to doing so because of his central contract. Not picking him is, effectively, an admittance they got it wrong. The same as McCullum saying that Crawley will open in the Ashes come what may.

You can never have too many keepers in the side and I can see our Ashes team looking something like this:

    Duckett (WK)
    Banton (WK)
    Pope (WK)
    Bairstow (WK)
    Buttler (WK)
    Cox (WK)
    Smith (WK)
    Rew (WK)
    Bracey (WK)
    Robinson (WK)
    Foakes (WK)

Bit weak on the bowling 😁

I thought this had already been confirmed but one time Aussie test batter Will Puckovski has retired with concussion symptoms at 27.

I'd rather have a team of Kermorgants
