  • I think we've heard this before Jos - that's 6-1 to India on this tour. Repeatedly doing the same things and finding the same excuses does not win matches or series. We haven't won an ODI series since September 2023 and put on an appalling show in the World Cup that followed shortly afterwards too.

  • If Bethell is out of the Champions Trophy I wonder who they'll call up as another spin option? Will Jacks? , Dan Mousley?

A 6'6 14 year old, because he has lots of potential.

Wouldn't surprise me if he gets a look this summer at this rate.
  • ECB bringing village cricket to the world
    That's men's and women's
  • Good job we didn't have that attitude for the last major 50 over competition we played in or we might only have won 3/9 matches and lost to those "icons" of international cricket, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, along the way! I hope sincerely that word "if" in Duckett's statement isn't going to become too heavy for our boys.

  • A flat pitch, but we look completely innocuous.
  • In recognition of Duckett inferring that this final match of the Series is pretty meaningless, our bowlers have reacted accordingly. Having been asked to bat, India are currently on 221-2 off 33 overs. Having got last match century maker, Sharma, out for a single, Kohli made 52 (45) and the not batters are Gill 111* (99) and Iyer 49* (42). We will do very well to keep this under 360.

We are banking on the wickets in the Champions Trophy being batting and certainly not spin friendly because we can't play the turning ball and we have no one to offer, beyond Rashid, in that mode.

  • Atkinson is another to struggle on this tour. Just three games and a return of 17-0-177-2 and those two wickets were the final ones to fall with today's one being a relative non-batter
  • India 356 all out off 50 overs

Personally I think he is much better suited to Red ball cricket.

Agreed, he doesn't have the variations needed for white ball cricket and is too predictable.
  • A flyer from us - 60-0 off 6. Duckett is playing on one leg and hit 8 boundaries out of 32. That is a bit of a concern given the upcoming Champions League Trophy.
  • And no sooner had I typed that than Duckett hits a slow ball straight up and duly limps off. Quite why, if as he has stated this game is of no importance, he has risked aggravating the injury by batting is open to debate.
  • Looking at his profile, Banton hasn't played for England since a T20 in January 2022 or any 50 over game since August 2020!

It's getting like you could build one hell of a team from players that have been ruled out or are injury doubts for the CT.

Saw Australia got hammered in Sri Lanka with a very experimental top 3 of Matt Short, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Cooper Connolly.

He became a bit of a franchise cricketing mercenary but finally woke up last summer to the fact that there are opportunities beyond that and the fact that the more your form deteriorates because you aren't taking your cricket seriously, the more likely it is that you will end up on the lowest rung.
  • Village cricket there from both England, and then Axar with the failed run out attempt  :D

  • The inability of us to play spin and to convert 20s and 30s into big 50s and 50s into 100s is killing us in this series.
  • A weird inconsistency with England's attitude to spin in red and white ball cricket. In red ball cricket, we've thrown kids in at the deep end - Bashir is still only 21 - whereas in this white ball tour, and for our CT squad, we haven't tried them at all.

I think it's because we know that anyone we play in the Champions Trophy will get slaughtered and the hope is that a four pronged seam attack plus Rashid will be better. As for red ball, the reason we are having to experiment is because we have very limited options and the only place that our selected youngster is going to learn is in Test cricket. The current one is third choice behind Leach and Vaughan.
  • Did I hear correctly what KP just said? That Root is the only player on this tour to have a net. That the rest have spent their time on the golf course. The only thing worse than that is going into a Test series or World Cup without any warm up games but then we've done that one too in recent times. "We don't plan to fail, we fail to plan" comes to mind.

    Christ.

Not sure it looks great that Archer is asleep and Jamie Smith is drinking a Diet Coke on the bench when we’re about to lose 7 out of 8 on this tour, either.
  • KP is the one, of course, who rebelled against a rigid coaching and organised sessions. There is a compromise between the two but we have clearly gone so far the other way it's ridiculous. Would love to see England's bar tab for this tour!
  • Thank the lord for Macauley Gillesphey.

    Can he bat then ?

What's the point of having Rehan there if he doesn't get a single game? It's not as if the likes of Overton and Atkinson have looked at all effective. Bizarre to go to the CT with no backup for Rashid, it's being played in Pakistan and the UAE, not Headingley.
  • KP talking a lot of sense when it comes to practice. Yes they want to make playing for England "fun" but their attitude to practice and nets just doesn't work in alien conditions.

At home they know the conditions, so it makes sense to relax between Tests, but here they're all at sea, and there's no sign of improvement against spin over the course of this pitiful while ball series. It's slog or wicket for too many of them.
