Sleeping at the training ground…..is that not weird ?
Nothing about Nathan Jones surprises me.
I think this a simple but true point.

There’s speculation out there (unclear whether it’s unfounded or not) so it’s natural people are going to discuss it. I don’t think anyone having concerns is ‘bedwetting’, particularly as the consensus don’t see anything happening from this.

But, Jones is a complex, extrovert character. We had a popular player like that once, that returned for ‘the calling of his struggling home town club’ for a large pay cut just weeks after signing a new contract with us.

This is what Di Canio said: “ in recent weeks it has become clear to me how much my family wish to stay in Rome. This, coupled with the fact that Lazio are prepared to offer me a contract, has convinced me that the time is right for me to return to Rome.

"I can only apologise to Alan Curbishley and the supporters of Charlton, for whom I have the greatest affection.

"The supporters were always right behind me and I hope they will not be angry with me and will understand that, where your family is involved, you sometimes have to do things which are very painful."

Do Jones wife and kids still live in Cardiff? If so, thst falls into the same narrative and ‘only job in football I’d ever consider moving for…”

I don’t think it will happen, I’m 99% sure of that. But with characters like NJ and Di Canio there is always that 1%

Could be wrong but I thought the family lived down in Hampshire (after Southampton stint) he has been seen going back to Waterloo station

No, he's fully embraced the Addick lifestyle and goes there regularly to check on which locomotives are pulling in.

Well if he does go, we're in the Championship and will be in a good position to find a decent replacement. Absolutely huge gamble for him though, if he gets sacked without getting them promoted his worth as a manager will be considerably damaged.

Big part of me thinks that as a fanbase we’re sometimes very prone to seeking out worrisome outcomes, even when there is no immediate evidence of it.

During the playoffs Cardiff had already been relegated and in need of a manager, but there was little talk of this ‘speculation’.

Now that the Playoffs are done and we have no matches to focus on, it feels like we’re just gravitating to a story to fill the time.
You think there would be a soon to be a 10 page thread irrespective of the journo talk? Come on.

It's a talking point because two different sets of fanbases have claimed our manager has held talks. With a local journo who is their reliable source (Cardiff) more or less confirming the manager they are after is Jones.

Now to add to it, Darren Witcoop has come out with the same story who seems fairly credible. Which tiew in with the original source, suddenly it's not just agent talk or made up nonsense anymore.

    https://x.com/DarrenOWitcoop/status/1929106626859921498?t=g93xNXnfURAP4rP5UJ0k2Q&s=19

What it looking certain, is that Cardiff are definitely interested and have the intent to go for Jones.

Whether they can make it happen is something else.

Cardiff has a toxic ownership, but never say never in football.

NJ will probably see what support he gets in this window before we will know his intentions.

Time for the yanks to put some real cash in.

Who saw Lennie toddling off to Middlesbrough ?
It wasn’t so much him going, it was this the day before.

Not suggesting that Jones has spoken with Cardiff and I doubt he will.

It’s difficult to fathom why anyone would drop back into the abyss that is league one, for a club which is clearly in decline, has recently gone through managers more times than Trump has tweaked tariffs and is owned by Vincent Tan.

There’s clearly something in this with what’s being reported now and by whom.

I can’t see a world in which Cardiff hadn’t had some sort of positive signal from the Jones camp in order to push hard to get him.

I thought Jones was still living near Southampton when he first took the job.

Based on his career, it looks likely he hasn't lived in Wales since the mid-90s. I'd also assume that his wife isn't Welsh, given that infamous press conference he did. I expect his kids have probably lived their whole lives in England. That's not to say he wouldn't be drawn back to his boyhood club, and his family could be fully on board with a move to Cardiff, but I think it's a different set of circumstances to Di Canio.

What were his words after the playoff final? “This is just the beginning of the journey” or something similar. If he goes to Cardiff it’s a a career killer. Zero loyalty after we’ve given him a chance to rebuild his career after being ridiculed for his failures at Southampton and Stoke.

It could all be part of negotiation.

As fans, what if we offer to swap the woooooooooah fisting at the end of the game for the Ayatollah?

I don't understand people getting bothered as well by people discussing it. It's genuinely an interesting/concerning topic.

I could understand people being annoyed if a thread was made because someone just decided to say "What if Jones leaves us for" and its any old random team for the sake of it. But when its Cardiff, the team he has said he will never turn down and its now being reported he is their number 1 target, that's worth a discussion.

No one is bed wetting, or saying it's going to happen, or letting it ruin their day or whatever other scenario people want to create. It's a forum about Charlton, it would be more weird if there wasn't a thread about this.

I also wish I had people's confidence in saying with certainty it won't happen. I genuinely think if they approach and the price is right, and Jones is given guarantees around budgets etc, he will at least consider leaving.

Fingers crossed Tan just appoints someone else sooner rather than later as this will linger otherwise.

Also 52? Managers easily go on into their mid 70s, hardly last chance saloon

“Last chance to manage Cardiff” - they have had 9 managers in 4 years.

I think he probably meant last chance to manage Cardiff for part of next season.

Championship is a league, NJ has yet to be promoted from. He has achieved league one promotion. Didn't go well at Stoke in the Championship. Vincent Tan is unpredictable and has little loyality to managers. Managing at Cardiff is going back to League One.
Staying at Charlton as manager, imo as Charlton more likely to make sense for him. Having a healthy budget at Charlton to develop the squad will help that.

Looks like more than a rumour and no-one [on our side] is closing it down.

If he is going, then get him out soon so that we do not waste our pre-season.

Very disappointed if this is true, but there is no loyalty in football anymore.

Either way, we will know this week.

Not saying the 1million rumour is true etc. But if that is what we were to voluntarily accept, without a clause, it would be pathetic.

He's worth at least 10 million to us next season.

Methven confirmed Jones sleeps sometimes at SL in a recent episode of the podcast he does
Maybe if we offer to put a king-size bed at the training ground that would see off any approaches. Getting a decent mattress is worth its weight in gold. Nathan would be nuts to leave if he has found a bed that is just right for him.

1m compensation for a guy with 3 years left on his contract doesn't seem enough.

I'm still not convinced Jones will want go back to league one though.

The draw of Stevenage away could be too much to resist.
