    Shudder
  • Jones knew the club and the culture when he joined. Goes in the same group as Powell, Bowyer and Jackson for me. Certainly doesn't go in the same group as Appleton.
Powell and Jones were external appointments though.

    It was an external appointment.
Obviously. The point being made was clearly that we only do well when a manager has a previous connection to Charlton.

Caution - I feel obliged to mention Pardew.
A minor blip. 😅 …as was Les Reed.

Okay splitting hairs now I see over internal/external. Lets say Charlton connection or significant Charlton past instead. Same thing.

It wasn’t that clear because the exact words were “external appointments”.

  • Also 52? Managers easily go on into their mid 70s, hardly last chance saloon

    Was gonna say the same

It’s not the same thing at all, but sure, you meant people with Charlton connections which is fair.
  • I’m ITK: It’s June 1st not April 1st, and daughter hasn’t wet her bed during those two months.

  • Don't personally think he'll go but, even after everything that's been achieved since, I still think he's wound up by the criticism he was getting 6 months ago. Hopefully that won't be the thing that tips the balance

  • You are really running  🏃🏻‍♂️with this rumour Crispywood!   Fair play to you even if you are going to lap yourself.

This time last Sunday we had just gone 1 nil up with Macca's free kick and now a band wagon is developing that the green, green grass of home is calling for Nathan to go west, back to his roots.

At Least if this occurs and I still don't expect it to happen but this is football that can defy logic, then at least none of our better players will be attracted to join him back down in League 1 other than Chuks and Watson who are looking for a football contract.

Blimey, you lots have got me at it now 🤦🏻‍♂️
Were Charlton fans were not allowed nice things 😂. I think there’s so much more in this than a rumour I’ve thought for weeks why Cardiff have taken weeks/months to appoint a manager when you have a lot of decent options at that level you could have gone for. Personally in my head I think it’s another Alfie May situation it’s not a matter of if it’s a matter of when despite most fans thinking it’s not happening. What the club can’t do is tell ourselves he’s 100% here next season then he goes and we waste more valuable time we need to have a plan in place if Cardiff do cough up the compensation

  • Cardiff are also in a mess, Vincent Tan is an absentee owner, and the club is apparently afraid to announce its retained list to fans.

This is taken from a Lincoln fan’s write-up of how L1 will shape up next season.

They've announced a refrained list instead
  • That’s exactly what they are going to have to do for as long as they own the club outside the Premier League.  I doubt they took much direct interest in the ST prices as they are unlikely to have any feel for the market and as I’ve said previously the potential income growth in 25/26 is trivial. That will likely be Warrick and Rodwell.

i have no idea what the playing budget is likely to be next season, but I don’t see the budget in 24/25 as any kind of guide either.
There are levels though. An invested & benevolent owner would concern themselves with ST and match day prices - if they wanted what was best for fans. However, granted, that is very rare. The club put a lot of effort into that in the 1990s & that wasn’t led by the admin team.

All I am saying is that they seem like businessmen, first and foremost. They’ve gone to a lot of effort to make it known that they are about sustainability & cloth cutting. That is to say, I do not think they will be like the Stoke City or Millwall owners, willing to essentially write off losses out of love, no matter how big or simply just to stay competitive. Fans are expected to pay the going rate. The academy is expected to provide some gems to sell. The scouts are expected to unearth some rough diamonds to polish & make a profit on and Jones is expected to a create a team greater than the sum of its parts.

And to be fair, that is how it should be. But none of us know how constrained the wage & transfer budget will be, when the club aren’t currently generating significant income from player sales. Ie when it is all on the owners. How much of the tv money will be pumped into the squad? If the incoming player stats for last season’s promoted clubs is anything to go by… all of it! Yet, I cannot see the club bringing in 15+ players. But who knows. Jones may have outlined that he needs to overhaul the squad with x amount of new players & the board may say no, we were only looking at y amount. All speculation though. But that is why forums exist.

You’re right to say last season’s budget is no guide to this season’s. But we do know that it needs to be at least doubled to catch up with the likes of Preston, a club that are sniffing around Small. Doubling it doesn’t guarantee success. But that isn’t the debate (for others who reference Jones’ success at Luton v failure at Stoke). I am just stating the bolded part as a reality of Championship football.
  • No, they don't and they shouldn't

Jones will come back from holiday and carry on.

No plans have to be altered, Chapple will be working away, deals will be set up.

And the club would be mad to make any statement because 1. Those that believe the clickbait nonsense will say "no smoke without fire" and 2. they will then have to respond to every other bit of nonsense on social media.

It is typical that the Cardiff ITK guy saying Jones ISN'T ON THE SHORTLIST story was almost ignored but any bad news is lapped up.
I’m glad you’re seemingly 100% confident none of our preparations are any doubt.
