Sounds like he’s more competition to Berry than Doc. Probably rules out Gilbert returning.
Not sure there was ever a chance of that happening.
Jones likes him, as I assume does Phil Chapple, and beating Derby to his signature too - what's not to like? Finished last season well and looks like a solid addition

    Welcome, Sonny.

Potentially more competition for Berry I think?  Blackpool played him quite advanced or on the wing in a bit of a Graham Stuart/Claus Jensen 'tuck in when defending, get forward when not' type role.

I'm happy with this. I don't know a huge amount about him but seems a decent young player signing on a free. No complaints from me.

    Welcome Sonny,

Lots of pop songs with "Sunny" in them although I think Joni Mitchell's "Carey" might be beyond the Covered End Choir.

We only need to sign Cher Ndour and we'll have the perfect pairing. He might be a bit dear though.

We need to sign what we consider the best of what we played against last season in League One, and he's a good age, so that good.

However, I will only be positive about staying up if we also sign one or two somewhat older heads with more Championship experience.

More of a 10, certainly in terms of what Jones wants from a 10. But can also cover 8. Expect him to be completion for/learning from Berry but doesn't rule out another CM coming in to compete with Doc.

Now, he looks like someone to push Berry.

Definitely competition for Berry. Would expect a different type of midfielder to come in and compete with Doc.

The way he speaks sounds like he was one of the 4 lined up, no reason for the play offs to have been tense for him otherwise

He said he was nervous watching the final so sounds like one of the ones that’s been done for a while

Very interesting comment from the Blackpool forum:

Carey Is a funny one for me. Good scoring record and you always feel there is a goal in him. Good player, but hard to fit into a system. He's not a winger, or striker or CM player. I feel he works best in a 3-5-2 playing behind the strikers. We didn't play well in that formation. He did well scoring in a 4-4-2 on the left in the last few months, but it didn't seem to suit for years prior and I'm not sure if it will going forward. It will be interesting to see where he plays and in what formation at Derby’

Seems strange for us to be signing players that suit a specific system after all those years of getting the players in and then working it out from there!

seems to be the younger version of Berry we needed for behind the strikers in a 3-5-2 we play.

Looks like he loves a shot. 11 goals last season (8 in the league)

When I first looked at that it was a cube then I looked again and it was a hexagon... Then back to a cube. Must stay off the wine over lunch.

The way he speaks of watching the playoffs ‘tense’ makes it seem like he’s known he’s signing for a while! The first of the famous 4 ‘already done’?

That honestly sounds like it should fit pretty well into NJ's system.  I'm not honestly going to say that this is a signing that blows me away and fills me with confidence but neither is it one where I am baffled by the logic or totally underwhelmed.

Good that Jones wanted him whilst at Luton, at least we know he's a personal pick, and that he's kept his eye on him.
