Think he can probably fill in the 8/Doc role if needed but more research suggests he is more likely to be in the 10/Berry role. He seems like he might play in a similar way to Anderson has been at the end of the season which might allow Anderson to slide back as cover for Doc

Very interesting comment from the Blackpool forum:

’ Carey Is a funny one for me. Good scoring record and you always feel there is a goal in him. Good player, but hard to fit into a system. He's not a winger, or striker or CM player. I feel he works best in a 3-5-2 playing behind the strikers. We didn't play well in that formation. He did well scoring in a 4-4-2 on the left in the last few months, but it didn't seem to suit for years prior and I'm not sure if it will going forward. It will be interesting to see where he plays and in what formation at Derby’

Seems strange for us to be signing players that suit a specific system after all those years of getting the players in and then working it out from there!

seems to be the younger version of Berry we needed for behind the strikers in a 3-5-2 we play.
Sounds like he could also, at a push, cover TC in the left winger/Striker role. Emergency cover there ay best but good to know he's played that sort of role before.

    That's our 8, now we need a 10
    The more I read I think he’s the 10, not the 8.

Very happy with this. Only reservation is that every description I read of his play style is the same I heard when we signed Scott Fraser... even the apparent covering the left of a 4-4-2...

Lots of their fans saying he playing almost LAM coming in off the left hand side. Maybe he might might be an option of a 5 man midfield rather than playing TC

I think that's because they played a 4231 so similar to when we played like that under Robinson

Out of contract because Blackpool didn’t want him or because we chased him earlier in the year?

They offered him a "great deal" according to Steve Bruce.

Sounds like a Darren Ambrose type.

That’s positive then. Not a Chapple signing then it would seem.

Had never even heard of him, but that’s more to do with my lack of Football knowledge than a reflection of his ability I imagine

Bar Ahadme, all of our recent signings have been of a decent standard, and the fact that this has been announced so quickly, indicates it’s been planned and thought through.

    welcome Sonny

I can’t see Jones going for a player who doesn’t or can’t do the running, pressing etc at the intensity he requires.

Checking the stats he’s started 20 odd league games for Blackpool in each of the last three seasons, with 10+ sub appearances on top every time. Most is his goals last season came in a flurry towards the end of the season.

Hopefully this is a player who it’s starting to click for as he moves into his mid 20. I think we saw similar with Ramsay and Coventry, they benefited from regular game time and finding the right role for them, especially Ramsay. It looks like Carey has been played in various roles but that attacking midfield role in a 3-5-2 sounds like it really suits him. I think we’re less likely to move him around the midfield and on to the wing now that we have a settled formation and style, which can only help him.

If he the lad I am thinking of who played against us, he had a great first touch.

Right footed and loves to shoot from range (something we rarely do)
Seems comfortable using his left peg too judging by some of his goals
    Good physique.
Sounds like he'll be playing more advance and just off the striker - definitely competition for Berry

Dont mind this profile of signing, young, a bit of a unknown, probably not on much wages so worth a risk, unlike last time we were in the champ where we signed past it players like Kayal, Hemed, Davis, Ledly, Matthews, Mcgeady

It takes a six foot 4 centre half to recognise another one.

    Well spotted lofty.
