To add competition for a place in the team seems to be the reasoning, as in not a guarantee of an automatic starting place.

Think this is a good signing and at the right age too.1

Looks a good addition to me0

Expect our team to be the sum of parts again rather than being carried by 1 or 2, so looks decent enough, Championship experience, driving and with an eye for goal. What’s not to like…0

Even back in the 80s when I started going, these numbers you refer to weren't totally respected. Tell me for example where a 4 or a 6 plays?
In old money 442 the 4 and 8 were the CM and 6 was a CB with 10 as the pacey striker. However as football has evolved (no one plays that way anymore) so have the roles and the descriptions of them.18 -

Start the game with crunching tackles on the opposition captain, best player and hardest player to show them we mean business.

I don't think this will be the last midfielder we sign this window so for that reason I expect Jones to be named captain for next season as Docherty may well nt be a regular starter3

cantersaddick said:More of a 10, certainly in terms of what Jones wants from a 10. But can also cover 8. Expect him to be completion for/learning from Berry but doesn't rule out another CM coming in to compete with Doc.

1 GK ... Bolder
2,3 Full backs ... Humphrey, Reid
5,6 Centre backs ... Miller, Shirtliff
4 Defensive midfield (centre half-back) ... Peake
7,11 Wingers ... Lee, Stuart
8 Attacking midfield (centre half forward) ... Walsh
9 Centre forward (Big man) ... Leaburn
10 Centre forward (Big man's side-kick) ... Crooks
After that it's just a case of pushing the magnets around so with our formation in the second half of the season the 4 dropped back with the 5 and 6 and the 2 and 3 were pushed forward as half-back flankers.
TC generally stayed out wide left (11) then the 7 and 8 operated in centre midfield, the 10 was centre-half forward, supposedly linking between midfield and attack, and 9 was the sniffer dog.
Easy peasy!

When we had "Club" Captain so Docherty wont feel dropped, and then Match Day Captains with the likes of Berry, Jones and Godden taking that responsibility at times.0 -

I think it's a sign of the game evolving without me though and for that reason I don't like it. CDM. CM. CAM. Stick to Championship Manager ffs1 -

I’ve always been of the belief that established league 1 players are generally on between £4 and £8k and championship £8- £15k. Then u have the premier league drop outs / outliers which can skew things2
