Would obviously be partly convenience for him but surely the wages would be astronomical? If true feels like it would be some signing
I can MAYBE see it if he wants to stay in the London area and doesn't particularly want to be first choice anymore - if the wage demands are reasonable having an experienced keeper to help cove/develop Mannion wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

Albeit "if" is doing most of the heavy lifting in that sentence admittedly.

    A proper rumour.
He’d be an excellent signing and the perfect compliment to Mannion and AMB.

On Fabianski, this come up in Google when I searched him up.

However, the goalkeeper has admitted he wants to sign for a rival club as he aims to stay in London.

According to The Sun’s print edition (27 May, page 49), he said: “I’d love to be active as a player next season.

“As a family, we’re really settled in London, especially my little boy. We don’t want to disturb any of his studies, so hopefully something will come up soon.”

Would the wage demands for a 40 year old goalkeeper be that high?  Not as if he's going to get scores of offers on a PL wage this summer?

He can demand whatever he likes I guess but then he's on £0 a week come July as it stands.

At 40 years old I doubt he's chasing a pay packet at this point.

Sounds like as long as he's in London and a player not a coach he's pretty happy

Fabianski just screams QPR as a signing. Wouldn't be against it for us though

    Right.

And when his contract ends in a couple of weeks, he's not on £65k a week.

His wages now don't mean anything, the wages any clubs might be willing to offer him next year are what matters.

If we sign another keeper I'd expect AMB to leave.

Fabianski is the perfect compliment to one of our current younger keepers..... signed as much as to guide and nurture someone like Mannion, with the capability to drop in between the sticks when needed as well.

Personally I'd make the trade quite happily if we had to lose AMB and Fabianski came in. I just don't see AMB being a really competitive Championship keeper and if someone like Fabianski came in with the full expectation of being parked mostly on the bench and hopefully helping out in training then it's all good - and I wouldn't think he's going to drop off so suddenly that he can't do a job in the Championship if he did end up starting the odd game or so in various Cup competitions or as injury dictates.

I suspect if Fabianski came in he’d be looking to be number one in a Championship side.

If Fabianski wants to stay in London for family reasons, then there really aren't that many options, so us signing him does make sense. As long as his motivation is correct, then I can see him accepting an affordable for us salary, somewhere where he has a chance of playing.

He's out of contract and a) if he wants to stay in London, and b) if he wants to play then his realistic Championship options would be Millwall, QPR, Charlton and not too far away would be Watford.

None of those are paying him anywhere near £65K PW.

Watford have the Norwegian international and their fans seem very happy with him so can't see them being interested.

Millwall have 3 contracted keepers, and Jensen is younger and decent.

QPR have Nardi who played most of their games last season and on Transfermarkt has a value of €1.8M (for what that is worth).

We do seem like an obvious candidate for him unless he drops to L1 with Orient.

Asked my West Ham supporting mate for his opinion. (Seriously)
“Good for the most part but capable of howlers”

He also said we should go for Vladi Coufal

His other option of course is being a third choice keeper for Brentford, Palace or Fulham

Don't most PL teams have their third choice as a Brit for quota numbers though?

Would be a great number 1 in the championship and would be good for our young keepers to learn from, but will be offered much more than we will be paying. Can't see him taking an 80% paycut just to stay in London

True, but when your first choice is English (Henderson at Palace) I doubt it's that much of a big deal

2/3 of those have players who count as a Brit as their first choice which slightly takes away that necessity

Or, of course, retiring/becoming a goalkeeping coach.

It was pretty clear last summer that NJ wanted an experienced number 1 with Mannion as a longer term project.
It seems we tried for Ruddy and Begovic amongst other experienced number 1s, but it didn’t happen.
Mannion acquitted himself well but we’ve now gone up another level.
For that I think the LF rumour could have substance.
Personally I think he’d be excellent and would be our starting keeper.

We know Jones wants an experienced keeper. We won’t be bringing in someone to be number two.
