A lot of good things happening at the club, so a shame to see a retrograde step. Only 10k sold is really poor imo.2 -
.milo said:Why would anyone buy now when they can wait a month with the money sat in their own account. Even if they were really excited by the game at Wembley, is holding a credit card sized piece of plastic five or six weeks earlier really that important if it is no cheaper now than just before the start of the season. The numbers buying tickets may rise a little nearer the start of the season and may go up if we make decent signings between now and then.
So some will buy early for very good reasons, and some will buy later for very good reasons.0 -

Have to agree that sales are at low end of expectations. Living in Bexleyheath my group are lucky we can make home games irrespective of when they are. One benefit of fewer season ticket holders is that it should be easier for us to get away tickets 😇2

Is there anything else in life other than Charlton hospitality prices that get quoted with a + VAT price? I don’t buy clothes, food, meals, cars or holidays with a +VAT price1
-
Am I missing something here ? Are out tickets more expensive than Portsmouth’s or Millwall’s ? I don’t understand why people think they should be cheaper ? I want us to sell as many as possible and of course, the cheaper they are, the more likely that is to happen but I also do t see why we are criticising the club for charging the going rate even if we are upset that we haven’t capitalised on some waiverers / glory boys caught up in the Wembley euphoria - do u not think the prices will go up again if we were to get to the prem ? There’s a lot wrong with football and tv ruining it etc but I think all this crying about a sudden price increase which was obviously going to happen is misdirected6

Im however disputing it was obvious.Seems to me you can advertise this upside without any obvious downside and indeed tempt more sales.I won’t be convinced however this price hike was the move most likely to maximise ST sales.3 -

"These are season ticket prices. Buy now. If we win the play off's prices will go up".
Result. Uplift in sales before the final, no surprises for those that didn't buy.
How about this for commercial genius...
"We've been promoted - we'll hold season ticket prices for 7 days before they go up"
Result. Uplift in sales in the immediate 7 days after the final, build on the goodwill factor. Anyone after that pays more. No surprises.
Either / or works.
How about this for poor commercial nous and even poorer comms.
"The website for tickets will go offline until after the final" (no mention of increase, I assumed it was to enable the system / team to manage play off tickets).
" We won yesterday, here's the new prices effective immediately".
Result - an anchor on season ticket sales in the immediate aftermath of the final , poor fan engagement, marginal (if any) increase in ticket revenue.
Now, as it happens, I bought my tickets before the final, so I'm not affected by the increase. But I know poor comms, poor "customer" engagement and questionable commerciallity when I see it.11 -
"These are season ticket prices. Buy now. If we win the play off's prices will go up" - this was obvious to be honest. Anyone would've expected a price rise after promotion but the issue isn't really the prices going up, it's how much they've gone up by.
"We've been promoted - we'll hold season ticket prices for 7 days before they go up" - this is a fair point and probably something they should've done.

Seriously.
Some fans think they should be able to pay the same price as those who had bought a season ticket before they knew what league we were in?5 -

All it needed was for the club to state that prices would go up if we were promoted, either immediately of shortly after. It's genuinely that simple. Then there would be no debate, and no-one would be annoyed.
Instead they put out a statement about taking tickets off sale without any reference to why. Not only did they miss a sales opportunity by driving purchase before the final, but they impacted post win sales at the same time as pissing people off.
Loads of comments on here about "people should have guessed / it was obvious it would happen / people should have read between the lines". No they shouldn't, the club should have been transparent.
The fact that they weren't is why this debate is still going on, and why there are loads of examples of fans not now buying tickets because the club failed to communicate.10 -

What the problem is , nearly everyone was surprised how much the club put the prices up.
If it had been £20 this thread wouldn't be this long.

If we get promoted to the premiership season ticket prices will go up.It being a step up from League One isn’t the compelling factor they think it is.But selling a PL season ticket will need far less effort. The club have not done this well and there is no need to try and defend them.3
