Could be over today at this rate.
Declare at lunch.  Bowl them out by Tea.  Chase a few hundred by close of play?

I am an eternal optimist, but I think this is stretching it a bit.

Safe to say the score will be 1-1 with 3 to play.

Can't believe Bumrah was holding India back all along!

A bit of scoreboard pressure when England eventually bat, after the best part of 2 days in the field. Especially on Crawley.
As I was saying mid afternoon yesterday...

Our bowling attack looks shot. I wonder if there will be additional callups for Lord's.

Ridiculous lack of a second slip, the way England and Brook have been hitting hard outside the off stump.

Think they're hoping for Archer and Atkinson.

Brilliant ton by Smith. A very Adam Gilchrist style innings.
  • Surely we can’t come back from the position we were in

Suspect we'll probably still lose this test but Smith's innings is hugely encouraging with the winter in mind

Very probably not. But in days gone by England would have been all out before lunch & following on would be struggling to go into a 4th day.

At least now there will be play over the weekend.

They're the conditions where once the first 30 overs have been bowled, it's a lot easier to bat out there against the soft ball.

It goes against the England ethos, but batting cautiously with soft hands for the first 20 overs, and then accelerating on this pitch might have been more effective.

Excellent performance by these two but feel like in the context of the game we’re only just approaching the par score for how many wickets we’ve lost. Still very much in a losing position.

This is where Smith and Brook need to go on to make Daddy Hundreds, and not think that now they've gone past 100 they've got licence to just have fun. Especially as India are bowling better after lunch.

India were 212/5 or something in their innings too. Just shows what 1 monster innings can do.

These bowling attacks on these pitches were only ever going to result in these quantities of runs

Smith and Brook are class. I would bat Smith at 6 and Stokes at 7.

587 gives England parity on first innings
    588 gives England a one-run lead
589 is England's highest-ever score (Melbourne, 1912) for an innings with at least three ducks
