They're the conditions where once the first 30 overs have been bowled, it's a lot easier to bat out there against the soft ball.
It goes against the England ethos, but batting cautiously with soft hands for the first 20 overs, and then accelerating on this pitch might have been more effective.1 - Sponsored links:

This is where Smith and Brook need to go on to make Daddy Hundreds, and not think that now they've gone past 100 they've got licence to just have fun. Especially as India are bowling better after lunch.
