I can't believe after the Chuks long contract fiasco that we would sign a player who has permanent underlying injury issues .. we surely cannot be that desperate to sign 'new blood'
Last season we started very badly in no small way because Jones wants players to play in a very specific way and has I think it’s fair to say some unorthodox methods. It took the players a long time to get with it. He brought in players he knew and knew him and things turned around. He’s doing the same this time and should mean we start the season with everyone completely on board. We can’t afford a slow start in this division.
My concerns are is recent injury record given his age, but I don’t think anyone is questioning his ability. I have faith in NJ so I see this as a positive if we can get a bit more out of him fitness wise.
I’m confident re; all the acquisitions from Luton so far, but I think 3 from the same club is reaching a limit. Hopefully we have some others lined up
Sounds an excellent player. Hopefully we have some kind of plan to keep him fit for longer. My only worry is that if we run with a small squad then they do all need to be pretty reliable fitness wise and he has not shown that to date.

The squad is not that small, at least on the defensive side. Three CBs out of Ramsay, Burke, A Mitchell, L Jones, Gillesphey and Bell (and maybe Z Mitchell too) seems like it should be decent depth, albeit we may not start the season with all of those.
Our players stayed fit thanks in large part to the new regime that was put in place, that in itself played a large part in a successful second half of last season. May be Reece Burke will keep his fitness with us for the same reason. He has played at a higher level than many in our current squad and a higher one than we will be this season. May be we should at this time of the year not worry too much what previous clubs supporters think they know and rather trust the guy who is in charge.
Not picking on charltonkeston but several posters have referred to players from Luton this way. "Experienced at a higher level" "premier league experience". Just to remind everyone this is spin-most were found out ie not good enough. There maybe some that progressed upward to stabile Premier League Clubs, but are these the players we're getting? ....I don't think so but please correct me ...always willing to learn.
But we're gearing up for a season in the Championship. How are we expected to poach proven Premier League regulars?
signed another player with back to back relegations on his C.V.
Hush now. You are not allowed to say that.
He’s also won league one and also helped Luton get promoted the season before the relegations, or doesn’t that fit the depressing, moaning narrative you always seem to have?
If you read RCs interview with the Luton journalist, Luton were beset with injuries across the team and Burke was put back in the side to do 90 minutes as soon as he was off the physio's bench. I am sure he will be treated with much better care under Will Abbott.
Remember him playing for West Ham in a pre season friendly at the Valley around 10 years ago with Reece Oxford and Martin Samuelson. Whatever happened to them? Was hopeful he would join us when he refused a new contract at Hull but joined Luton for a better offer. Hope we can keep him fit as he is quality.

Samuelsen is now playing back in Norway after a spell at Hull. Reece Oxford is a free agent after 6 seasons at Augsburg in Germany.
Tbf to Golfie this one could go either way of course we want it to go well but on both viewpoints he's been involved in promotions and played at a higher level but also more recently been involved in two relegations and has a bad injury record so there is both positives and negatives.

Ruined by injuries - playing 3 games in 3 years at Augsberg, none in the last 2.
Been released and doubt he'll find a club so basically finished by 26 (and arguably 23).
Does make you understand why youngsters take the big money when offered....

Keep seeing this on here (although to be fair, most posts are from one poster). Don't see why it has to be seen as a negative.
Luton were very unlikely going to stay in the Premier League, yet they did fight well at times. Don't know what to say about last season, nothing worked for them and they clearly fell apart.
Wolves and Sunderland also had back to back relegations, yet had decent individual players, just like Luton now.
No reason why teams like us (and even Rangers have) can't take advantage of Luton's downfall and grab those decent players.
2 defenders & a goalkeeper. From a team that has suffered back to back relegations. 🙄
You missed out the bit about them having already worked with NJ when he was Luton Manager. The team he created went up to the Premier League under a different manager who oversaw relegation and then was sacked in Jan 2025 - the club finished the season relegated.

Announce Reece Oxford 😂
Preston have just read this and made him a better offer.
Anybody know exactly what Burkes injury problems have been ?
Last season he missed three months of Luton’s campaign with a quad injury, similarly in the Hatters’ Premier League season he was out for two months with a knee injury. In their promotion season 2022/23 under Jones, the 6ft 2in defender missed two months because of a hamstring injury.
Two ways of looking at this:
Negatively: he's the kind of player who will always pick up injuries, so we won't see much of him.
Positively: the fact that they're all different injuries suggests there isn't a single underlying problem that will inhibit his career (like Ledley King, say). Maybe he's just been really unlucky, and his luck will turn at Charlton and he'll feature regularly for us.

In any case, welcome to Charlton Reece!
