This pick your seat stuff in away ends is going to cause so much more agg than its worth.
I prefer it. The aggro is usually caused by daytrippers who want to sit for 90 minutes, but have seats at the back of the stand. When it's explained to them that they will be standing if they sit there, they either move peacefully, or insist upon sitting there and spent 90 minutes whining about everybody standing.
The issue was when we couldn't pick as it was a miracle if we ended up where we wanted. Charlton seems to have a habit of giving me seats in the front row by the corner flag, which is the last place I want to be sat.
Now I can pick a seat that's generally going to be a good view. Although the system still isn't perfect. I have, in my opinion, the best seat in the away end at Colchester tonight, but I can't guarantee that my seat at Ashton Gate will be as good since I have to make an educated guess as to where the goal is in relation to my seat. It would be useful if instead of just having 'pitch' and a generic block of green, the lines were marked as well so that we could work out exactly where we are.
You actually don't, you can use Bristol City's seat checker (something I have said Charlton should have) here is the link:
This is my exact view, slap bang in the middle (assuming I can get my seat early)
Thanks for this. I tried searching for views from seats, but I didn't come across this one . It looks like you have more or less the exact seat I would have chosen, but my estimate of which seat would have been the middle was slightly off and I am sat a few seats away from you in the row behind.

You don't choose to have your seats at the back of the stand, you get sent what the ticket office gives you and can't request anything specific. What don't you understand about that?
Re-read the comments in this thread. That was the case last season, but now we can pick the seats we sit in.

It's going to be shit because everyone who wants to stand together can't buy their tickets together, but will still want to stand with each other. Then the usual 'you're in my seat' crowd will be even more aggy about it because they've actually chosen their seat this time.
Let's see what happens. Whenever I sit elsewhere and somebody complains that I am in their seat, I accept that I got unlucky and find another seat. Sure, some groups might be argumentative, but now that we can pick our seats and they aren't random, there's a much stronger case for being able to sit in your seat.
If the large groups don't like it, all they have to do is go to more away games, then they can pick their seats. This system rewards those of us that attend every game by giving us the best seats whereas historically the club have just been picking up whichever tickets are on the top of the pile, which often gives those who buy first the worst seats.
I do remember a ridiculous incident at Huddersfield away last season where a group of about 20 people showed up 2-3 minutes before kick-off and began complaining that there was no space for their entire group to stand together, but they accepted the fact that it wasn't possible.
But you still can't buy as a group, even if you're all in the top category. If you could buy for multiple IDs at once, like you can for England matches, then it would be fine. Unless it's changed, the close relationship linking for CAFC IDs won't let you link a large group of mates.
The key thing is to have the standers at the back and the sitters at the front, and this hopefully makes it easier.
What if there are people who would like to sit and prefer the view further back though?
It's a tricky one, goes back to what I have said before regarding most things in life, either strict rules or no rules. That way no one can complain.
I am a snob, so I think everyone should stand and make noise for the whole game, but that isn't how every football fan is, some people cant manage that, and some simply don't want to, and that's their choice.
I think this will cause more issues because people actually selecting their seat will believe they are more entitled to it, and in a way, they'll actually be right for once as their points will give them the luxury of choosing a good view.
It will cause issues again like every season no doubt either way.
It's a compromise. 95% of people accept the reality that at the back, everyone there will stand. And similarly that the majority of people at the front are unable or unwilling to stand. Or can't see a thing if everyone is standing (children, short people etc.)
If you insist on standing in the front row in front of pensioners and young children, you're a ****wit. If you're someone who chooses the back row, and then moans because everyone in front of you is standing, you've only got yourself to blame when you can't see anything.
On one occasion last season, someone had the seats behind my ST seat in the upper covered end (safe standing section) and was demanding everyone sat down in front of him. Luckily he moved elsewhere after an initial exchange, but unfortunately some people are idiots and won't conform to what the rest of us think is common sense.

Being behind the goal will always have this situation, people should accept this even though they do not like it.
Sit in the East or West stands to erase the problem.
Also noticed the Coach is starting at Charlton then calling at all other locations. Honestly no idea what route they've planned.
That's only coach 1, probably ends up going on the southern stretch of the M25. Coach 2 calls at Eltham and Bromley after Charlton.
Surprised they're leaving so early when even National Express is showing 2 hrs 45 from Victoria to Bristol Bus Station.
Always heavy traffic clockwise on the m25 when you get near Wisley so I personally wouldn't go that way around. Normal idea would be Blackwall tunnel and go that way for the m25
Ticket link still not available for me on website despite being Valley Gold member. Anyone else in this situation?
Strange - worked for my brother so he's booked ours. Checked and I appear to be fully paid up, so I guess I'll get in touch with VG and the ticket office!

I found out last season that my VG wasn't linked to my account. Perhaps that's your issue?

It was linked to my ticketing account last season with no issues, so not sure why it wouldn't be now. Carlie from VG has already (very speedily!) replied to my email to confirm my membership is valid and contacted the ticket office, so hopefully it can be sorted out relatively quickly!
Tickets booked for me and Jnr. Big fan of the new seat picking. Hope people are sensible with it and book seats appropriate for them.
Totally agree mate and if it works means you can get their close to the kick off without some ignorant berk refusing to move particularly if their seat is in the front row and yours is higher up.
We do have some idiots who travel away who for some absurd reason think they can stand where they like, particularly filling up the stairs, which should be kept clear for emergency.
I am a new valley gold member, do i need to notify the club or do they automatically link it to my account?
Not sure if there is a grace period before it applies. I think this was brought in to prevent people buying tickets for one particular match and then bailing out, I maybe wrong.

Will the coach have charge points? Serviceable toilets?
You get what you pay for.
