a better game Saturday but just cant see him scoring, the service he gets also isn't brilliant.

as mentioned on the post match thread our lack of goals/chances ( 3 on Saturday ) are a massive concern. on balance I didn't expect us to get much from Leicester or Bristol city, as they are both sides who i expect to be involved in the top part of the table come end of season.

the magic number of 46 is still our target Imo. although disappointing i try to see Saturday as another point gained.

You would very probably go down on 46 points
last 10 seasons 44.5 has been the average, Peterborough got 54 points and then got relegated.

Points for 21st placed team in the last 5 years

    24/25 - 49
    23/24 - 51
    22/23 - 49
    21/22 - 41
    20/21 - 44

46 could just about keep you up but it's unlikely. 50 is the number to aim for

    I agree it's a concern.
Last season our objective was clear. Promotion. And Jones made it quite clear that the key to promotion was clean sheets.
The same conversation has probably been had with the favourites for the title this year. We are not shopping there quite yet.
However I think any defence in this league is penetrable with the kind of attacking lineups there are. Unless you've forked out £20million + on a back line
We are going to have to find a way to create more chances and score more goals. The blueprint for last season cannot be replicated for this one. We just don't have the personell.
We have to hope and pray we create more and the likes of Kelman,Olafe and Godden come good at this level because it's going to be a mighty hill to climb if they don't.
  • This season Wednesday are likely to be last with a dismal points total, but I can see the next 6 places being very tight.

A six pointer game next month.

As long as we are pumping long balls for Kelman to win in the air, we ain’t gonna score many goals
So true. Lots went up to campbells head as well!
Felt to me like we was not bothered about winning the first header from the forward vs defender dual. Seemed like the plan was to win the second ball in midfield, which we did quite a bit.

That’s our whole game plan really, win second balls up high and create a chance from there.

we were relegated on 48 points before so nobody should be aiming for 46 points

Before December last season Kelman scored 2 league goals, he's a player who needs time and then when it clicks he scores regularly
He also needs a strike partner, TC playing wide left isn't working with Kelman, he needs to feed off of Leaburn or Olaofe knock downs IMO
Or he needs creative midfielders behind him to play him in.
We don’t own any.  Willing, energetic and disciplined , but not creative.

It would be nice if we saw people giving him a chance in the box, once that happens i will judge him. For now , we need to create more and not much him or any strikers can do in this set up

Watching the highlights and didn't notice at the time, when Kayne Ramsay had his shot Saturday, Kelman peeled off the defender nicely to be slotted through, but it wasn't spotted and the ball sailed easily over the bar. Little moments like that are the difference to getting his opportunity and not. Unfortunately I don't think many players in our team would've spotted/made that pass to him.
  • 100% he is a good player. Don't understand why people who can barely play think they can judge. I honestly think he could become talismanic when he gets that first goal. Just pray he doesn't read this forum. Leaburn too as he's clearly lazy and doesn't care as he isn't going around showing "passion" like Joey Barton. Ugh.

I’m worried. He flashes but still looks lost for the most part.

    - 0 shots today,
    - only 1 touch in the opposition penalty area in 60 mins (Miles had 4 in 30) and
    - lost 10 out of 11 total duels (5/5 ground duels lost, 5/6 aerial duels lost).

Trust in Jones. If Kelman isn’t doing what he’s wanting he will drop him. Very useful to bring Tanto and Miles on against tiring legs

These stats don't tell the full story, though. It is hard to quantify things like how much he tired out their CBs by backing in and then running in behind. He had a few nice touches and definitely contributed today. Miles and Tanto obviously had a huge impact but you have to give Kelman some credit for laying the foundations.

I’m sorry but there was two moments where both Campbell and Carey had broken through the middle and were looking for options and Kelman didn’t even attempt to make a run. It’s getting increasingly hard to defend him when Campbell, Leaburn and Tanto are absolutely giving it 100% every game. I’m not giving up on him but he needs to up his game

Currently looking like a L1 player in a championship team, would obviously love him to start affecting play more and scoring.

Thought he looked good today, some smart hold up play and passes. He needs a goal, and probably needs to be on the pitch when the game opens up.
but did a lot of dirty work to allow the game to open up with 30 minutes

When you look at the effect our other attacking players have had on games, there’s no way that Charlie Kelman should be starting.

If he had been signed on a free transfer or a low fee, then I don’t think he would be tbh.

I watched on CATV, I must have been watching different parts of play, do you think he’ll hold onto his starting spot? Perhaps have him as a sub coming on?

Looked good today nice flicks and a good swivel and shot  that keeper done well .. interesting when Gilly come he started to find Kelman with his cross gold passes … needs better support and the way the game changed when Olaofe replaced Campbell that’s your answer

Still feel sorry for him, he’s doing a huge amount of work to allow the ‘game changers’ to come on against tiring defensive legs. He’s not had a chance with Leaburn or Olafe yet.

agree that had we not spent £3.5m on him then he’d be taken out the firing line by now. Bet he wishes that Burkes chance had fallen to him.

he just needs one to go in off his arse or something and when he does score I bet the team reaction will be superb.

whilst results are going our way I don’t see the way we are setting up changing

You don’t notice a lot of the work on the telly, glad people at the game can fill in what you’re missing

He did alright again today, but the other 3 are all playing well so it does feel like Kelman should probably not be starting, and it might help him to come on off the bench when the game has opened up.

Big concern for Kelman will be that the other 3 are doing a lot more than him, so when Godden returns, Kelman could struggle to get on the pitch at all unless there’s an injury

But he can still technically say he's put the ball in the back of the net at The Valley, so he's still ahead of Charlie on that front
