Needs to learn a few or 2 from Godden in terms of movement and getting into scoring positions0

Hes still finding his way at this level. Hopefully the game time he's getting is slowly educating him to the pace of the championship and how defences shift and organise.
He's had hardly any clear cut chances to speak of. If he had, and was missing them I'd be more concerned..
If Jones is happy with him, I'm happy.
We're just going to have to be patient3 -

I’m sorry but everything about this signing absolutely screams missing our first penalty of the season6

I'm sure everyone including Jones and Kelman would love for him to have scored by now but we've got the results we have by setting up and playing the way NJ wants - and he wants Kelman starting.
And this is before Matt Godden returns to add even more competition up front.
If Godden comes back and suddenly Kelman is dropped to the bench then I'll hold my hands up and say I got it wrong but as it stands, Jones DOES think Kelman is bringing enough and frankly his judgment means more than any poster on here.0 -

I think he showed enough last year to say that he is good enough for the Championship.
I'm just not sure that our style of play is going to bring the best out of him.1 -
He hid a bit today which I find v concerning. He’s extremely low on confidence.3

but did a lot of dirty work to allow the game to open up with 30 minutes
He tries but not as hard.
Tanto and Leaburn are more noticeable every game they come on in less than a minute.
Kelman never gets away from his marker and today was even running away from a pass, rather than making himself available.
No way would I still have him starting and to be honest I wouldn't have started him from the first game, considering he had no pre season.4 - Sponsored links:

Why do Football fans always think that the valuation a club pays for a Footballer has any involvement on how they play? - Was on reddit yesterday and fans were slagging off Wirtz for not having any goals / assist yet to justify his 120m price tag for example.
Question them based on the wages they're earning, yeah I get that... But not the overall fee that they wont have had any discussion in.0 -
Jones has very particular wants and needs from his strikers, Kelman's a victim/ product of that, If he wasn't doing what Jones wants him to be doing he wouldn't be starting regardless of his price tag.
As a game plan we keep it solid for 60 odd mins then open up, Kelman is contributing to that in his way. A goal or 2 from him would be nice of course.3 -

Don't worry about Kelman, He is a good player and is figuring out the level and a different system. He is as good a signing now as he was when we signed him.11
-
We don't know what Jones sees in training but I'd like to see Kelman alongside Tanto. It would be incredibly harsh to drop Campbell but Tanto is the only forward that has contributed to goals in the last few games.
Leaburn has had a chance to start and wasn't anymore effective than Kelman over 90 minutes. We just need to find a partnership that works.3 -
As much as I think Kelman has underwhelmed and offered very little, we have a winning formula with him starting and the bomb squad coming on at 70 minutes. Until we start getting beat, I don't see Jones changing it, which i'm fine with.16
-
For whatever reason Kelman and Campbell as a partnership doesn't work.
Once Godden is fit we will have 5 strikers to choose from.
It's down to NJ to work out his best striker partnership's and as the season unfolds I'm sure he will.
I certainly haven't given up on Kelman but I'd like to see him partnered with Tanto or Miles and see how he does.0 -
After a couple of excellent results and performances its easy for everyone to be cutting Kelman some slack. But guarantee that after a couple of losses to nil, his performances won't be looked on so favorably.
Hes been fairly anonymous. Some are saying theyd only be worried if he was missing opportunities but im more worried he's just not influencing games at all.
However, as a team we are playing very well so it can slide for now.2 -
Four of the next five away. We can't afford to carry him if he's not scoring. Guaranteed lung busting commitment if Tanto plays.0

I thought he was poor yesterday, and as mentioned above, was hiding at times.
May actually be to his benefit to be taken out of first 11 given how low on confidence he is.0 -

I think I’m right in saying that Godden scored one goal in our first eight games last season. I’m rather glad we persisted with him.5

Some are completely ignoring the approach we have with the finishers. Yesterday we had them on around 60 mins. With added time that’s 35 mins every game these players are on anyway…. And that’s the 35 mins they can do more damage as the game opens up.
Take QPR - it was the other way around and Leaburn looked less effective from the start, and Kelman more effective off the bench.
Frankly I would rather Leaburn and Olaofe are the ones to come on when damage is ready to be done for now.
Godden is the one I’m curious about as he could suit what’s required for the first 45-60.4 -

We re winning games and he s a major distraction for any Opposition-
for me the ball isn’t bouncing his way ; it will happen I’m sure3 -
He can play but I think this level is currently a step too far .
I haven’t given up hope on him just yet , he’s not in the Ahadme /Bonne they are actually shit position after just a few watches but he’s not anywhere near where after this many games of seeing May and Godden I knew they had plenty to offer and expected them to be a success .
currently
30% will work and do well for us
40% will be a bit nothingy but add a bit with the odd appearance
30% jog him on waste of money and time0 -
In Jones we trust.
Clearly backing his man and giving Kelman the opportunity to shine, remember Andy Hunt having a slow start with us until he couldn't stop scoring.
Also, even though Kelman hasn't scored yet we've won two in a row. Don't change anything.10 -
