Will Mannion Signs on 3 year contract

  • It's very interesting what has happened to Will Mannion.

Kaminski comes in, he drops to sub for the first game and then plays against Stevenage in the cup where he has a good game and it is rumoured he gets a slight knock.

But since then Maynard-Brewer has sat on the subs bench and actually played against Cambridge with Mannion on the subs bench. So he must be fit unless NJ wanted to put a crocked goalkeeper on the bench.

And after M-B hardly had an inspired game the other night, he still sits on the sub bench whilst Mannion disappears completely from the squad again.

Has something happened behind the scenes that has made NJ relegate Mannion to the number 3 position?

I think Mannion can consider himself a bit unlucky to at least not start the season as the number 1and I'm far from convinced (so far) that Kaminski is a huge improvement.

Any ideas why Mannion wasn't on the subs bench today?

Its either fitness related, because Mannion didnt get to have a Pre-Season, and then got injured after Stevenage... Or we'll be seeing him heading off before the end of the window, as he doesnt want to be a No.2

Think he's the most telling name to keep an eye on, on Monday

It’s a shame, but I don’t think there’s much between Mannion and AMB. Mannion started the season, kept loads of clean sheets. Got injured. AMB got his chance, kept loads of clean sheets, then got injured. Mannion came back in, again kept a load of clean sheets and we went up.

I can imagine that Mannion is on higher wages than AMB and is probably less likely to want to be a number 2, so makes sense if he is the one to leave.

Kaminski is the better keeper. Hasn’t really had a great deal to do the first 4 games (admittedly didn’t see the second half today). It helps having such a solid defence.

Mannion is more vocal than AMB, I think the rookie defenders on Tuesday would have had a better game with a more dominant keeper behind them.

I’m not yet convinced Kaminski is a major step up.

Early days but of all signings  not yet seen him make a difference. I think our 2 reserve keepers will see they have a chance of playing.

Not convinced by Kaminski, feel Mannion has been unlucky to drop so comprehensively off the face of the team

If you're Mannion there's no way you're looking at Kaminski and being content with him taking your place
  • He shouldn’t be a number two , clearly showed last year he was a good keeper. Personally feel we’ve misspent the budget get Kaminski in there were more immediate areas of concern and Mannion was not one of them
  • always like my goalie to come and catch the odd cross. Also not to push every shot back out into the mix.

Agree with others. So far Kammy doesn’t seem much of an upgrade on what we already had. Time will tell I guess.

Based on Kaminski today and AMB forever, Mannion is very hard done by to not be making squads let alone starting

Mannion was very solid at the end of last season and I expected him to start the season.

I don’t feel overly confident with Kaminski. Should have saved the first today. Hesitated for the third like he did against Watford and was lucky not to give a pen away then.

The stuff on the first today is harsh, hit hard from not far out

Signing Kaminski hasn’t stopped us being able to improve other positions in the squad though? We’ve made signings in all areas, with only a WB expected to join before the window closes, which wouldn’t have necessarily been signed sooner by not signing Kaminski.

I don’t think the problem is Kaminski in our team at the moment. Also, I feel Mannion is a better goalkeeper than AMB. He commands his box a lot better and that helps the defence out. I think that’s one of the reasons why Gillesphey played so much better towards the end of last season. Earlier on when Mannion was out injured and AMB was in goal he seemed more unsure and made lots of mistakes.

I do not think Kaminski is an improvement on Mannion or Maynard-Brewer.

Mannion is calm commanding but not a great shot stopper , in my view .  Both he and AMB had good records behind solid defences last year.  Whether Kaminski is an upgrade remains to be seen but I didn’t decry Jones from buying another keeper .  He wanted a different first choice at the start or last season, don’t forget, but couldn’t secure one .

Any news on Mannion? Just wondered as he seems to have disappeared.

Coming back from injury wasn’t meant to be too long behind Berry

Mannion commands the box well but he was a below average shot stopper in league one.  How do you think that would fare in the championship

Wasn't really what I was getting at, just hadn't heard anything about his injury or whatever the issue is for a while. You'd expect him to be on the bench ahead of AMB.

Plus, Jones was probably expecting way more shots in the champ so wanted a strong shot-stopper

Watching the highlights of League 1 last season and the goals conceded Will Mannion really wasn't a below average shot stopper. All keepers get beaten by shots.
Mannion's strength at taking crosses is definitely Kaminski's weakness as he even punches many balls it seems he should catch.
Kaminski did two great saves against Derby which helped to secure a point when we were under the cosh and he may well be the better shot stopper than Will but after Millwall scored the late equaliser when we were down to 10 many CL members slagged TK off
despite the scorer being unmarked in the box.

Nathan's gig and he picks Thomas Kaminski so either Will Mannion stays/gets fit and waits his opportunity or he looks to move in the January window.

Both Mannion and Gillesphey can feel hard done by after being on top form from January 25.
Nathan said that himself about Macca but mainly silence about Mannion.

Because Mannion has been injured, whereas Gillesphey was fit and ready and just didn't get the nod.

Mannion was due to be cleared back to full training this week. I assume that is still the case and he’s now resumed back with the squad.

He was on maternity leave then we heard he was injured yet he played a league cup game and then it was stated he was injured ?

    What was the injury ?
Or is that top secret !

Will be good to have Will back if Kaminski gets a knock and misses a game. Mannion commanded his area in the second half of last season and will be desperate to get a chance in the Championship but it could be a long wait.

He wasn’t on any parental leave when it was being spoken of, their baby has very recently been born. Don’t believe everything you read. He was injured, that’s it.

Jones referred to him having a little 'accident' which led to the injury.

If he had recently given birth, it's no surprise he has been out for a while.
