Back out. Curran and Cox need to step on the gas for the final 22 balls.

153-6 (20). We won't know how difficult a surface this really is until NZ have batted.

Curran top score with 49* (35)

Great knock from Curran in the circumstances.
Shame the match has been abandoned due to rain.

Mid October in NZ feels very early in their summer to be playing internationals, but that's the modern cricket calendar.

Speaking of rain, NZ women have now been rained off in both games against the two minnows in Colombo, effectively handing India a 2 point advantage plus a serious net run rate in the battle for the fourth slot in the semi finals. Ridiculous scheduling by the ICC.

If England beat India tomorrow that puts both us and South Africa through, and equally importantly means both would be likely to avoid the Aussies in the semi-finals. If India win the game, they become heavy favourites to qualify and England could find ourselves dragged into the battle for which of the top 5 doesn't qualify.

Curran showed his value down the order today. Grown a lot as a player in the last few years.

The gap in class from England's two best batters to the rest, especially those lower down, is kind of staggering. Honestly I'd just bung Lamb, Dunkley and Capsey to the top of the order and ask them to have a swing in the powerplay (I'd drop Beaumont for Wyatt-Hodge)

An Indian batting collapse has made the end of this game quite interesting

    Haha.
    Fuck you Indian cricket.

Lovely to hear a silent ground in India.

Incredible 4 run victory for England which sets up a semi final against the Aussies

Pulled that one out of the fire nicely. Now let's make sure of 2nd or 3rd and get hopefully the easier semi.

No idea how India have fallen apart there , Kaur and Mandanha had them completely in control.

Great result! Will India still end up qualifying though as both still have 2 play and have the same points now.. But NZ only have lost 1 less and won 1 less and had 2 no results, handily for India.

I'd have to look back and see what happened in the 2 NRs and if they were unlucky to end up with just 1 point (unlike with England!)

ENG women emulating the men somewhat with their performance against Pakistan then against India!

Wrote this without checking the table - due to NZ's rain-out yesterday we're actually already guaranteed a top 3 finish. SA could still end up 4th, but they'd need to lose to Pakistan for that to happen. The most likely is that we play SA in the semis, but if we could nick a win against Australia we could still end up first and playing (almost certainly) whichever of India and NZ wins out. If India beat Bangladesh, NZ need to beat both India and England to get over the line. So it's still likely to be India, even if they don't beat NZ.

It's boring though, isn't it. Whoop de do, smacking sixes on a flat deck. The optimised vision of cricket that's been forced on us
