Hmmm/ I love Wrighty, but think he's out of line here. Unlike him to play that card. Disappointed

I don't dislike Bellingham for any reason other than that I think he's a bit of a knob & a disruptive influence on the rest of the team3 -
You don’t, and he’s not saying everyone does either. What he’s saying (and I recommend watching the full 2 minute clip if you haven’t) is that the media treats young black men differently. They then set the agenda about what gets talked about because we react to it.Gravesend_Addick said:

Go and compare headlines written about young black players and young white players, when you put them side by side it’s genuinely eye opening.
Bellingham probably is a bit of a knob, lots of elite sports people are. There’s no way he’s the only knob in that squad. The thing people seem to be most reacting to this camp is his alleged non celebration of the goal (which can be easily disproved) and being annoyed about being substituted. I want my players to be annoyed about being substituted!

He is a black superstar though. I’m not being deliberately facetious, but I don’t understand the “not ready” part. Is it just because he’s been criticised? I like Ian Wright and he doesn’t come across as a bandwagon jumper so I’m sure he’s being sincere I just don’t get it.1

Interesting he used Paul Pogba as an example, who was absolute shit in this country and got paid eye watering amounts for it. Plenty of white players have got similar stick for less.
He must have missed the black superstars this country has produced, Mo Farah, Linford Christie, Anthony Joshua, Lennox Lewis.Be good to know who he actually means by ‘they’ as well, shouldn’t be hard for him seeing he’s worked for pretty much every media outlet in the country.0 -
Wright is both correct and incorrect, inasmuch as there definitely are at least some people whose dislike of Bellingham is to a lesser or greater extent based on his race.
On the other hand, Bellingham does genuinely seem to be a pretty abrasive/divisive personality in his own right and probably does rub some people the wrong way for reasons nothing to do with the colour of his skin.
The problem is that it can sometimes be difficult to work out which is which.0 -
I think the thing with Bellingham was that his early career profile was quite carefully managed as this grounded, humble person whereas he's actually proven himself to be a bit of an egotistical knob. Thats nothing to do with his colour and I take zero notice of what the press say. There are plenty of egotistical knobs in football with James Maddison be being top of my personal list.0

He probably was quite grounded. Real Madrid Star Player has a close to 100% terminal arrogance comorbidityAllHailTheHen said:I think the thing with Bellingham was that his early career profile was quite carefully managed as this grounded, humble person whereas he's actually proven himself to be a bit of an egotistical knob.
