What a wild day. We're in for some series here
  • 71.5 overs in the day. What am I missing here?

Gets reset when we were bowled out doesn't it?

    About 20 overs
  • To be honest if 90 were bowled today, game would be over by lunchtime tomorrow so I'm happy with 71 action-packed overs

I think it's two overs per innings break which means just 76 overs for the day? That's 14 overs lost!

Woke up thinking, oh fuck, Aussies 5-0 is on, and then now it’s, we we’re going to win the Ashes!

Who would have seen that coming at 6.30 this morning.
  • Old cliche but always worth waiting till both sides have had a bat before jumping to conclusions

Hope nobody's going out for the 4th day. This may not go 3 days at this rate.

Anyone who's been tracking the Aussie batting of late. They need to make some big selection calls immediately after this Test

We need to wait for their second innings and I don't think they will anyway. Not until the third Test at least by which time they will, hopefully, be 2-0 down.

Really don't know what they do at the top of the order. Weatherald looked like a deer in the headlights , Khawaja looks done at international level.

Do they turn to Renshaw and maybe promote Head to open, bring Webster back in to solidify the middle order? Can't see them going to Konstas
  • What a day, fantastic effort from our bowlers.

Imagine waiting until 31 to get a Test call up then falling over for a second ball duck.

The decision to bat first and go in with five seamers were the right things to do. As was playing Carse in front of Tongue because we have enough bowlers to knock over the tail. Carse getting the wickets of Smith and Khawaja plus his extra potential with the bat puts him ahead of Tongue but rotation will see them swap at some point.
  • Great to see a pitch with pace and bounce. With the pace of the game, I'm not sure the pitch will have time to deteriorate much, so it probably won't make much difference whether we batted first or second.

With the Kookaburra ball going soft after 30 overs, we do need to last long enough to benefit tomorrow. Wear down Starc, as he's by far their biggest threat. Yes we want to be positive, but that doesn't mean compulsive hooking to catchers, as the boundaries are longer here.

I bet the 'curator' will be fired after this. Although tbh, it didnt seem a 19 wicket strip.

At last years test at Perth, there were first innings scores of 150 and 106, then India scored 487-6 in their 2nd innings, so the pitch may likely flatten out.

The pitch was fine. Challenging yes, but nothing unacceptable. Good bowling was rewarded, bad batting was punished.

Stokes' first 4 wickets were all terrible shots

Exactly this, we lost at least 4-5 wickets to poor shots, with Smith and Carse being particularly brainless getting caught out in the deep when slogging it for no real reason. And the Aussies have been just as poor with some of their shots, if not worse.
