Question was posed on another thread but not really answered but to all stattos out there was that the first time EVER that we have conceded 5 first half goals at home?
And before anyone says it the 7-6 v Huddersfield was only 2-0 at half time.0 -
We get it, you don’t like Campbell. No need to keep going on about it.RonnieMoore said:Watched the highlights again .. one big difference that stood out was that Southampton. Had a winger who created chance after chance unfortunately our winger again was invisible and created nothing of note … there lays our problem1 -

We also have to give Fullah more minutes in different positions because I doubt anybody knows where he will be most effective. I've not seen anyone say he isnt up to this level, he just lacks experience and a role.5

This is the league table two days before that Leeds game. We were towards the top, but romanticism aside probably weren't in serious contention for a European place. Leeds were towards the bottom and could have dropped into that 18th spot but squeaky bums aside, probably weren't the team in most serious danger of going down. Only twelve points between us, but I guess in a small league that counts for more.

Not ashamed to say it but I left at 4-0 went with a mate who I don’t get to see a lot so got out the cold and went to the rose of Denmark where is was on the telly. Off to cov next week so hopefully we can turn it around.1

Dr Will Abbott leaves and injuries quickly mount up. Co-incidence?3

How does the Virgin Mary beas come slack Alice like we saw in the 1st half yesterday 🤔
From the sublime defence to the ridiculous; with the ridiculous being shite 🤷🏻♂️
As we were vulnerable out wide on both flanks the easy answer would be to say the wing backs or what Nathan admitted in post match speak: two wingers playing in those positions. Get fit soon Edwards and Bell because we were a lot tighter with both these lads in the left wing back and LCB positions. TBF to Hernandez he made a tackle or two in defence but his best play is in the opponents half like Apter. We were open everywhere just like I said with slack Alice and it was only a wonderland for Southampton fans as they had a high 🖐🏻before the break.
Now Rob Apter is a talented lad with the ball at his feet but unless we can find an attacking role for him my prediction that he would struggle when Ramsey can't cover him in defensive positions has come to fruition unfortunately; I said it after 3 games when he was doing well in an unusual position for him.
Was Lloyd Jones carrying an injury from early doors as he was shaky which then affected Macca and Ramsey was overwhelmed with covering everyone.
Our midfield were chasing shadows AKA Norwich players as they ran with the ball and our flexible midfield of Docherty, Coventry and Carey were taking turns in running back but already behind !
As I said Southampton above and I could've sworn I put down AKA Saints. How bizarre 🤔
I will edit quickly 😄1 -

Yes, a coincidence.
Leaburn injuries were while Dr Will Abbott was at CAFC.
I get fed up with the opaque answers to injuries to Charlton players.
I took a break from CL so I may have missed the info about Edwards, Godden and Bell but do we have any idea how long these players are out for. Plus after Kelman got his debut goal when will Charlie be fit ?

Fine but how many minutes has he had, surely the time to judge is when he plays 2-3 games on the spin.Sword65pf said:

What a fun day I had yesterday. It started with trying to get there. Wife wanted our car to go Christmas shopping so neighbour and I decided to go by train as his car isn't ULEZ compliant. Got to the station, next train was shown as going only to Tonbridge - there was a message saying that there could be delays because of emergency track repairs. Following train was shown as going to London, so bought tickets with a view to seeing if we could get a train from Tunbridge Wells onwards. At the point, the next train was cancelled! Looked at the Network Rail app and there were no trains beyond Tonbridge! Had to get back home, empty fishing gear out of neighbour's car and set off to try to get to the match; fortunately, we have a parking space on his work colleague's drive available. Got to Well Hall by 11.45 (starting to feel optimistic) but then took half an hour to get to the traffic lights at Shooters Hill. Missed the first goal by seconds but not to worry as three more came along in the next few minutes...18

I don’t think he’s at the level yet as a starter, surely the club know his best position with all the u21 games he’s played.Gisappointed said:We also have to give Fullah more minutes in different positions because I doubt anybody knows where he will be most effective. If he hasn’t done anything good in the 1st game, why does he deserve to keep his place for2-3, its squad competition and he hasn’t competed well enough.thickandthin63 said:

Before the first goal went in we could have been 3 down, it was plain to see what was happening. We were playing a team with players who are at a different level to ours, although they have only been playing well in a few games this season. They will be at least in the playoffs at the end of the season. That said you don’t have match your opponents talent to compete with them, just have a game plan. That probably won’t be enough to win when you’re up against a team like Southampton and playing with players missing and others out of their favoured position. There are the professional things teams do when opponents are on top, make challenges is always a good one, even take a card for the team, basically get in the way and disrupt play.I went to the bar shortly after the 4th went in and stuck it out until the 70th by then the game was long over anyway. I don’t like leaving early but the thought of getting on a train packed with happy saints fans was one thing too many.1

Everton 0-7 in 1931, 6-0 at half time. The Leicester 0-5 which was Eddie Firmanis Waterloo was 0-4 at HT.LargeAddick said:Question was posed on another thread but not really answered but to all stattos out there was that the first time EVER that we have conceded 5 first half goals at home?

Was playing in a cup game in east malling yesterday so first home game i missed - my mate drove - also a charlton fan - we pulled up in the car park and had some time so put the game on on his phone - neither of us had our glasses on and couldn't see properly - we can't be 2 down surely - by the time i got my glasses on we were 3 down and then quickly 4 down, then 5 down - bad day at the office, put it behind us - the team and manager are well in credit and i'm sure the board will help out with some signings in the window - this is the time when we, the fans, need to back the team even more - there was always going to be some tough spells and we need to stand behind the team and manager and not apportion blame - its easy to support when its going well, lets up it now its wobbling - millwall were spanked 4-0 by coventry at home a few weeks back - it happens - wouldn't be surprised to see us bounce back with a win on tuesday - this team and manager are made of strong stuff.5

More bad news, Charlton fans could not walk up Floyd Road after the game.TootingRedArmy said:First home match I’ve missed this season, away aboard, decided not to watch online so when my phone began pinging I needed to double check 5 goals…! These results happen it’s football, positives are we are still a couple of pts from play off’s & a lot more off relegation. The players will be hurting & will want to get back out on Tuesday and put in a performance - we might really struggle V Stoke & Coventry but it’s still November and we have long season ahead. Jones and players have been magnificent this season, its times like this where we need all perspective, we’ve been here before get a kicking and it will happen again..we go again on Tuesday. A good post BUT Kelman scoring goals is not a given and we don't know how things will go with Godden.Bailey said:We've lost two games, one of which we didn't deserve to win but didn't deserve to lose. Yesterday's game was, once again, blighted by our injury list and a fast moving Southampton side showed no mercy and we, deserved nothing. Our midfield is getting criticism, rightly so, but the lack of wing backs, and potential options to replace the injured first choices in those positions is what, in the main, is affecting our performance. Also our front players are still not firing, but once again, injuries to two of the top scorers in league one is restricting us. Two teams are in the middle of an injury crisis at the moment, Millwall and Charlton, both teams have seen a recent drop in form because of those injuries. The form will improve, but not until Bell, Edwards, Burke, Godden and Kelman return.
All the whilst our front line are not scoring goals I can see us moving further down the table.2 -

I guess every cloud has a silver lining!.... I tracked down the video on line, as one of my sons was the Mascot on that very day, and never saw or got a photo of him, He is shown here after Richard Rufus, running out. His favourite player was Scott Parker, who spoke to him, and our sons both went to Long Lane where he said he played for. I took a screen shot, so will run it through photoshop and get a print made. Re yesterday, well lets hope that Jones can motivate the players, and get a point or two in the next few games, we do not want to go on a bad run.Stig said:This is the league table two days before that Leeds game. Will not be easy, but with Godden hopefully returning, lets hope we can back to winning ways?

You don't beat us at home 5 - 1... a pretty historic result at The Valley... without being good, playing well, or however else we want to term it. If we want to talk about us not playing well, even the Hector, Innis, Scott Fraser, Gunter, Ben Watson etc.. era didn't give up a result like that, and they were barely trying!Garrymanilow said:
Because they weren’t that good. They killed us because we were absolutely terrible. I don’t think Saints got out of second gear once today, they just ran at us, played some pretty simple triangles, moved off the ball and dropped into space. Basic stuff that we made look like prime Brazil. They gave up after the 4th goal and weren’t even really trying when they scored the 5th. We played suicidally high at the back, Lloyd Jones kept getting suckered into stepping into the space and allowing the ball to be played in behind and the wingbacks may as well not have been there. Our midfielders chased shadows and we weren’t in it. Saints play like that against a proper team and they don’t get anywhere near that resultcafcsinger said:
How on earth can you say Southampton weren’t that good? Totally bizarre - they killed us and could have been 8 nil up first half. Second half they gave up and controlled the game.Garrymanilow said:Jesus Christ. Absolute crap, the worst thing is saints weren’t even very good, we were just that bad. Second half weirdly annoyed me more than the first because Saints didn’t even bother in the second half and we came out with no urgency, no real effort and after about 5 minutes of vaguely trying we just gave up. Pathetic. In the first half I quite liked JRC but he went to pieces as the second half went on. I can see why Jones doesn’t like him. Not fit enough and not aggressive enough. Tanto was terrible and showed just how well Miles did winning his battles. Hernandez was completely absent as a LWB but weirdly put some proper challenges in as right back, more than anyone else did. We will never see Rob Apter again. It was a mistake to start both Apter and Hernandez and I don’t know if Lloyd Jones was told to step up as much as he did or if he just lost his mind but it’s the worst we’ve looked under Jones at the back since the Terrel Thomas days. Really bad, never looked like fighting back for a bit of pride. Also I’m fucking freezing0 -

Anderson or Knibbs. Personally would start playing with wingers to fit the players available. We have pace in the team not being utilised. Having Cov sat there means we can play with a slightly lower line to avoid any pace issues whilst Carey and Anderson/Knibbs can provide some much needed energy up and down the pitch. Tc and Tanto are speed demons who can cut in too shoot/cross.

I blame myself.
It’s the first home game I’ve missed voluntarily since 1972.

PWR and watched on tele. Southampton were excellent IMHO, but we were desperately poor. Players out of position, the usually high octane midfield three lacklustre and an exposed backline who cant cope with players running at them without that protection. NJ hasnt covered himself in glory these last two games with his team selection/formation/tactics. Need a point at Stoke.2

Hopefully just a bad day at the office yesterday. We are really missing Bell, Edwards, Bree, Burke and Kelman for his athleticism. But since the Ipswich game we seem to have gone backwards a bit from our high tempo start. I’m sure that has something to do with the players who are missing but we need to keep playing the high press. The opposition don’t like that and if you give them space they will exploit it and that’s what happened yesterday. The Championship is brutal. So, onto the next one. Stoke on Tuesday. Nathan Jones must love this schedule!1
