Nice to have it clarified. I won’t bank on him being back until February and if it’s sooner then all the better.
  • Hmmm

I'm usually a glass half full type of person, but I now have a niggling feeling that we won't see him this season

As i suspected, he was playing through a lot of pain to play a vital role in getting us promoted last season and for that, I think he is a true Charlton hero.
He’s like the anti-Lyle…who didn’t play through zero pain to play a vital role in us getting relegated.

Reminiscences of Sir Clive. Got injured early in the season & his return was delayed & delayed until we never really saw him again.

Nathan Jones has provided an update on Marty Goddens recovery…

MATTY PLAYED THROUGH A LOT OF PAIN TOWARDS

THE END OF LAST SEASON. HE GOT THROUGH IT AND IN DOING SO WAS VITAL IN OUR PROMOTION TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP. AN INITIAL PROCEDURE DIDN'T CLEAR THE INJURY UP, SO HE NEEDED A SECOND PROCEDURE AND THAT'S WHY HIS RETURN HAS BEEN

DELAYED. HE WILL LIKELY START TRAINING AT

    THE END OF

DECEMBER AND WILL HOPEFULLY BE BACK AT SOME POINT IN JANUARY.

    NATHAN JONES

  • Think we might’ve seen the last of him. Hope I’m wrong. Classic Charlton to get a goal scorer and then him getting a career ending injury/problem

There is literally a quote from the manager saying he will likely resume training in about 3 weeks.

And “hopefully” back in Jan. after no pre season. He’s 34 and has been recovering from a serious knee injury. As I said, hope I’m wrong.

Returning to training is still a long way from returning to first team action.

Spoke to someone on the way back from the game on Saturday that says Godden is likely to be to Feb, same as Kelman sadly. Edwards around the same time, maybe longer. Never usually in the know but this source was very credible.
On Rich Cawley Substack in his interview with a Jones he said that hopefully they will be back in December.
    Which Jones was it?
    Tom.

He had a discomfort when turning on the bleep test it didn't clear. Certainly not the end for him lets hope its a bit more of a success.

The good thing is we're clearly being cautious and looking after him rather than rushing him back. Hopefully that will help him break down less when he is properly fit

As i said, he's seeing the surgeon on the 23rd December who will then advise what he does next - how likely it is that he returns to training is anybody's guess although i'm sure the surgeon, matty and the club have a  better idea than we do. My sister in law is no Jeremy Paxman.

I'll have a stab that he does not play again and retires.

I guess that if he doesn't play again this season, then you could be right about the retirement Elfs...

Wouldn't surprise me and whilst it will be a big disappointment for both MG, the club and fans, if there is a silver lining, it's that it will make it very clear that we need to bring a striker in in the window.

If that happens he will never be forgotten by me as he played through pain and helped us get promotion

He won’t be back until at least February. When does his contract run out ?

So why can we now know but before we could not?

Any rationale for this when it’s usually defended as player confidentiality/ gives the opposition news they should not have?

A little out of ‘ordinary’ to reveal this.

I think someone’s had a word and told NJ to be a bit more open, we got a little video from training this week too which we haven’t had for weeks

Probably coz I told everybody on here what’s what - if it was a secret surely mg wouldn’t have told my sister in law - no fuss

So in reality, NJ denying the story that he won't be back until February, by saying he won't get the all clear to return to training until the end of December, and will back sometime in January, is basically confirming the story is true. Even if he returns in January, it won't be until near the end.

We've definitely missed him, as he's our best all round striker, and has the Championship experience that none of our other attackers have.
