Please give the next over to Tongue
  • The fact that didn't carry... feels a very good toss to have won.

    How’s ya back Ussie?
  • Carse's plan to bowl rubbish for 4 overs,  to lure Head into a false sense of security works.

Steady, you’ll make him cry like those nasty pensioners in the long room.

  • The thing about Carse, Tongue and Stokes is that they buy their wickets when the pitch is doing nothing. Which is better, I suppose, than just going for runs. And none of them open the bowling when playing for their respective counties either. That is a skill in itself.

Marnus is a huge wicket with no smith, very inexperienced middle order and a longer tail with Cummins back

Agreed as Neser is a better batter than Cummins (who isn't a mug) but then we should, perhaps, remember that their top scorer in the first innings in the last Test when they scored 511 is batting in the same position as today - 9.
  • Maiden from Tongue's first over and it's drinks at 37-2 (12)

    Stokes into the attack
  • As much as Carse has been expensive in the series (5.43) he is the second top wicket taker from both sides with 10 wickets at 27. There haven't been many "cheap" wickets either - Head (3), Smith (2), Weatherald, Khawaja, Green, Starc and Lyon.

Oh Brookkkk can’t afford to be dropping anything
  • If only we could have 11 Kent fielders out there.

I think they said Khawaja hasn't got past 50 on this ground. With that drop expect him to get 100+.

Jacks in to rectify the slow over rate

And speed up the run rate as he goes for 10 in his first over. Bashir can do that!
  • That is going to be a problem for us. You want to bowl Archer in four or five over spells of heat but if Jacks is going to be targeted that means the three workhorses might be on their knees by the end of this innings.
  • Brook has played Khawaja into form.
  • Every Khawaja run makes me want to hurt someone.

For the sake of the courts I don’t mean Harry Brook or anyone else.
  • Jacks almost has Khawaja caught at slip but it drops short but he still goes for another 7 runs in his second over.

94-2 (24) at lunch. A third wicket would have made it our session.

Horrendous cliché but that really felt like a “1 brings 2”.

It could so easily be 4 down now.
  • Now both batsmen are settled, the ball is softer, and it's getting hotter. A long, tough day now.
