Actually didn't find that even remotely funny even when it was new.

I was a kid , so seeing scantily clad women running after a Benny Hill in a park appealed to my child’s brain . Always felt embarrassed if my dad was in the room at the same time though . 

Why, was he bashing one out?

I watched an episode a while ago and they left in an old (maybe lesser known) racial slur from Arthur. 

I assume that they must have ppl reviewing old programs to identify such parts to edit out?!?

I don’t agree with editing anything out. If you want to watch an old programme then the language and attitudes come with it. If you don’t like them then don’t watch it. 

If one generation can’t even watch a past comedy programme without editing then how can you expect to learn about social history? Do you want to cut out the work house from Oliver Twist? How about cutting out slavery from all films?

I’m against all censorship of the past, including children’s books and programmes, like the inclusion of golliwogs for example. People have to understand that the culture was different, and explain the past to their children. If you censor things then you lose understanding of the time in which it was set.

One i went back to a while back was Dear John , written by john sullivan , some really good gags and i still find it  funny  .

I remember a scene at a party where a bird farted and Kirk (trying to play the gentlemen) announced to her and the gathered throng that “you can have that one on me darlin” (or similar) 😄

Its so bad its almost worth a watch. As young kid the 70s I like most of my friends loved it. Now its nigh impossible to raise a chuckle at any point. But I think Stan gave all men confidence, if he could "pull a bird" with those looks, so could anyone. Cringing thinking about the whole cast and story lines now. 
I think having just 3 channels back then it was an easy thing to dish up crap comedies endlessly to a captive market.
