Maccelsfield would have given this lot more to think about then the powder puff shit we offered today. Jones wouldnt play Gough against and Blackburn when Burke was injured but played him today and yet there is still no room for Fullah to play, pathetic.0 -
Dont be concerened about my health fella look after yourself and leave me to moan about Charlton not turning up to a cup tie against a bunch of reserves. I have no problem with losing but the way we did today was pathetic and if you cant see that more fool you.Off_it said:

Despite the margin it wasn't a humiliation.Concern for the injuries.
Would Leaburn have enhanced his value after this evening? I thought he competed very very well against Premier class players.6 -

Yep. The club did that. Twatgolfaddick said:PWR.
Don't know what to think after that. My emotions are all over the place. Angry, annoyed, pissed off and feeling sorry for the lads - didn't deserve that scoreline at the end.
Will need to cool down before I post sensibly but all I will say is this.....we certainly need a LWB by next Saturday.
Oh......and the club is a shambles. Toilet block in the AC stand had a floor full of piss. Cant use 2 of the cubicles or the far end urinal unless you want to be able deep in the stuff.
Utterly shambolic on & off the pitch.0 -
L Jones looked to me like he kicked the ground but theirs wasn't a penalty either.Gisappointed said:
I dont Think Jones would kick the ground without contact. The defender definitely put his foot forward from behind. Perhaps cameras didn't show contact, but the ref wasn't relying on VAR.EugenesAxe said:

I'm not sure I agree. Mannion got the ball then the man. Never a penalty.up_the_valley said:Charlton pen wasn't a pen. Chelsea pen wasn't a pen. Chelsea get the pen. What a surprise..
Jones went to kick the ball and the defender tackled him from behind without touching the ball. Pen all day long.
I was disappointed to see so many Charlton fans leave well before the end of the game. It must be a modern disease because Spurs fans were leaving at half time.
I don't understand this.
We defended resolutely for 49 minutes, which was fine tactically but once down we then had nothing to give. NJ doesn't seem to watch and analyse the match and come up, or at least try out, new ideas. This goes for all our matches.
The whole thing just left me feeling like The Valley at the end - half empty. I came home and didn't have the heart to watch MOTD so watched a daft American teen comedy instead.
Oh well, just beat Sheff Utd please2 -
Our problem all season has been a lack of quality. We’re a league one team who has probably got to the championship earlier than expected so no surprise at the result against a half billion pound team.
Now though we really need some quality to ensure we stay in the Championship.
Hopefully that’s been stressed to the owners - and they’re listening. We can’t afford to drop back into League 1.13 -

No complaints (apart from the pen) the lads did everything they could against a team where every played they used would individually be worth more than our entire squad.
However, the Bell injury is a nightmare - 4 of our first choice back 5 now out. Minimum 2 defenders in this week or we are in big trouble.6 -
I reckon the club found out which trough golfie normally pisses in and deliberately blocked it, just to wind him up. Genius.Major said:

It was a benchmark game and at the end I suspect it came out where most (realistic) Charlton fans expected. No big deal, there were no league points at stake.
We can be more than pleased with the first half, shame about the goal but it was speculative and it went in.Leaburn’s goal at 2-1 gave us a bit of hope but they were more clinical in front of goal and it was our makeshift defence so no surprises there.
i thought the ref was out to impress the PL but maybe that was sour grapes on my part. It would be nice to watch some of those decisions back to see who got it right, me or the ref
overall, I thought th best two players on the pitch, from either side side, were Leaburn and Bell, both of whom will now attract unwelcome attention.I wasn’t expecting too much of the Chelsea side but for me I thought that lot lowered the bar a bit further and it was telling that they had to risk bringing Enzo Fernandez on to kill off the game and that their fans were pretty poor throughout the match probably reflected that they felt the same way.Personally, I’m feeling a lot more optimistic about our upcoming Championship games now.6 -

Just remembering why I hate a ful stadium. Traffic awful, lots of plastic fans with 50/50 scarves. Kids kicking the back of my seat. People going put for a coffee after 10 mins & then cant remember what seat they are in so spend 5 mins walking up & down the gangway looking for their chums.
You're a magnet for this sort of stuff.
We started the 2nd half realising we were allowed to attack.......and then took another 20 mins for NJ to realise that Bell is a better LWB than TC.TC had a good game at wing back considering the quality of the opposition.Bell is good at LCB or LWB.
Bree finally discovered he can take a corner.....perhaps he didnt fancy Mannion taking them 🤭.
Gulf between the Prem & Championship is massive. No idea what would happen if we ever did get promoted. I dont think I want the humiliation tbh.
If we got promoted we’d buy better players.
Leaburn tried but still needs to learn to jump if he wants to head the ball. Unlike his dad he is better on the floor than in the air.
He’s rapidly improving in the air. Wins plenty of headers now.
Mannion stopped it being a cricket score.
Havent seen any replays of the pens but sitting in the AC stand I thought Jones kicked the ground.

Anyone know if the medical emergency fan is ok?5

Not sure what you could see from where you were sat but the TV showed them being wheeled out and someone (Mendez?) mentioned they were giving a thumbs up which is all positive stuffAFKABartram said:Anyone know if the medical emergency fan is ok?6 -
Slightly baffled why some people here are so shocked by the gulf in quality between the teams tonight; that starting Chelsea 11 was still full of massively expensive players, and bringing Enzo and Neto off the bench just rubbed it in. TC was up against Gittens, who cost them £48.5m, Caicedo cost £100m plus and Garnacho £40m. And the finish from Neto (£51m) for the 4th showed the chasm in quality between the two sides, with the way he moved the ball between his feet and rocketed the ball in.
The first half was surprisingly passive from both sides, as we let them have a lot of possession, but they didn't do much with it, and were quite slow. We stepped it up after the break, so the set piece 2nd goal was annoying. And to concede the 3rd so soon after Miles got a well deserved goal was really frustrating, and killed the contest.
Miles was excellent, Carey looked more like his old self, while TC showed glimpses of what he can do in attacking areas. Mannion made some really good saves, but will be disappointed with the 3rd goal, as he probably will feel he should have diverted the original shot away from the centre of the box.17 -
There are 5-1 defeats that are utterly humiliating (like Southampton), but this wasn't one of them. Sure, it was disappointing and we can have no arguments that the best team didn't win. But, the scoreline was very flattering towards them, they've been lucky enough to be able to buy a wealth of talent that we can only dream of, and every one of our team could leave the pitch with their heads held high knowing that they did their best.
I think we had a few standout performances. I'd like to highlight:- Miles Leaburn led the line with considerable aplomb and was well worth his goal.
- Bree had his best game in ages. He seems to have re-found his ability to put in a decent cross. He also chased everything, on a couple of occasions winning balls that he had no right to get to first.
- TC's defending was great. It's often been said that he's good when he has free rein to attack, but he's not a defender (or words to that effect). Well, what he is is a willing and fast learner. And tonight he showed he can be a great defender.

Any idea why a section of seats in the away end was covered over and not used?1

Certainly hope so. Wasn't he waving at someone as he was carried away? Surely that's a good sign.AFKABartram said:Anyone know if the medical emergency fan is ok?0 -
There was a spell in the first half where we were kicking it long and it kept coming back, but we get that in pretty much all the league games, especially against the better sides too. Kelman wasn't showing and there was no way he was getting found either. On the whole i'm in the 'no-one had a bad game' camp, like the majority on here.
There's a couple of posters who wanted more but that's probably just natural distribution like the bell curve where 5% of all views sit at the extremes making up the bell-ends.

I think there's a wheelchair area behind them, so I assume they don't want people in front of them blocking their view.IR94 said:Any idea why a section of seats in the away end was covered over and not used?3 -
I was disappointed that we weren't more up for it. We're never going to outplay them but we could have made it a physical battle, won our duels and got in their faces more. But only Miles, Loyd and TC really looked like they'd turned up for a cup tie.
Did anyone see who was supposed to be marking Tosin for their second? Such a poor goal to concede.
Saturday 8pm kick offs can get in the bin.

Well it was a must not get injured game and when we were pretty much done at 1-3 I’d have protected as many as possible, starting with the likely to get crocked lot .
Still everyone who wanted got their strong Charlton team out so we only lost 1-5 instead of 1-10 and we”ve increased the chances of league one football again yippee cnuts10 -
They scored 3 of their goals once the game opened up. They didnt need tiki-taka football. They would have been better letting us have the ball & letting us come onto them. Then they could have broken away & scored. Instead they dominated possession for 45 mins & only had 1 goal to show for it. It wasn't football it was a game of chess.CAFCTrev said:
I hate to say it, but the sideways, tiki-taka style that’s so prevalent now does work if you’ve got the quality to pull it off — and Chelsea showed that tonight. They scored five without ever really looking stretched.golfaddick said:But they wouldn't spend 10 mins passing it fucking sideways going nowhere.0 -
Not sure the score flattered them, they had 30 attempts on goal and 16 on target!10
-
I was thinking the same. Always annoying when they score 2 goals in injury time, which puts a different gloss on the result to the casual observer, but they certainly had enough chances and shots to have made the score a lot worse.CAFCTrev said:Not sure the score flattered them, they had 30 attempts on goal and 16 on target!10
