Should we play our strongest team against Chelsea?

Absolutely. Paid good money for the ticket and travel1

Will he though?Bedsaddick said:Thankfully Jones won't be listening to people on here saying rest players. He will play the strongest team possible and rightly so.
I do hope so but he’s not always done so on the past. Sadly I do expect some ‘lesser’ players to feature.0 -
Yes, for our strongest team, let’s get the pyro’s out again from semi play off (club have been using them on insta post) & see what happens. Saturday Night fever, our supporters will do their bit to create fortress Valley, the players will be up for it as will Nathan they know it’s a big showcase & will want to put in a strong performance, anything is possible that’s the joy of football, let’s hope the Valley is rocking at 10pm. To be honest , who would we actually miss this season if they got injured against Chelsea ?1
-
I think it is a great opportunity to get our mojo back so absolutely we need to play the best team we can. Agree with others that we can't afford to play players carrying knocks but players can get injured in training and you can't expect Chelsea to try to beat us by kicking lumps out of us in the way a lot of lower league teams might.1

Jones Bell Coventry for starters and could argue Kelman/Leaburn if we don’t bring in another forwardMezza07 said:To be honest , who would we actually miss this season if they got injured against Chelsea ?1 -
Absolutely best team possible……whatever that is.🤔0
-
Yes to the original question.
I think our full strength side have a chance, I don't think anyone believes we can but the FA Cup is famous for upsets. I think if we get an early goal Chelsea will throw out a challenge at half time to get the win. That will say good things about where we are. I just hope Chelsea make the mistake of playing a weakened/young side.

If we have a proper LWB then yes, otherwise we'll be steamrollered anyway, so protect the side0

How can you know a few weeks in advance which players are going to need resting? Or do you think NJ and the management/coaching team should have identified, negotiated and signed half a dozen players in a week? I don't think the club has the money to sign players as good as the ones we already have "just in case", do they?msomerton said:
Well may be the club should have had the transfers in sorted by the time the window opened. So now we are faced with playing players who should be rested for this game because of bad planning.sam3110 said:Some of our fans suggesting we rest half the defence are absolutely on one, the whole reason why we don't rotate the defence right now is because we don't have enough defenders!
Bree, Jones, Bell are nailed on to play because with Ramsay, Burke and Edwards all out the only other defenders we have are Gough, Gillesphey and Laqeratebua!
You wanna pay 30+ a ticket to watch that back 3?!

Who would have thought, don’t want to see Jones judged when a large majority thought it was smart to go full strengthCrispywood said:Need to Protect Bell and Jones. Bree already playing through injury that’s affecting his performances so he needs a rest other than that play the best team1 -
Could have subbed him off though for Gillesphey rather than trying to give a knackered TC a run up front.Crispywood said:

I would have never risked him in the first place but wasn’t like there was a lot of people asking him to startSELR_addicks said:

Bell wasn't taken off for Gillesphey, he was moved to RCB which was the terrible decision.Siv_in_Norfolk said:

If Bell hadn’t have got injured tonight it would have happened again at some point. It would just be delaying the inevitable
We need Ramsay back for Sheff Utd now.0 -
We were 3-1 down, who cares at that point.Siv_in_Norfolk said:

Quite agree. Bell didn’t look as sharp tonight in any case and we could easily have subbed him at that point instead of Kelman. And I did actually question it at the time so not just hindsight.SELR_addicks said:

Please allow me to answer the question retrospectively, NO!2

If we had rested Bell last night, the chances are his hamstring (if that is what his injury is) would have gone against Sheff Utd or in the next game. Hate to say it but the guy is just injury prone nowfattmatt said:Please allow me to answer the question retrospectively, NO!
I would argue it would have made more sense to take him off last night when we went 3-1 down after about an hour. We were never going to pull that back.3 -
100% agree. Sadly, Bell is at the wrong end of his career fitness-wise and is heading towards Chuks territory.Fortune 82nd Minute said:

We saw fit to make other changes on 65 minutes, why not take Bell off and stick Gillesphey on. The game was gone at that point. The body language of the players lining up for the re-start, told the story.0 -
That went well, so obvious... Take the thrashing (which happened anyway) and move on. Sheff united is far more important than a day out that we are always going to lose anyway. Putting Bell LWB after the subs was so naive, he is so important to us and he is made of glassNabySarr said:
If we didn’t play Jones or Bell we’d get thrashed by most championship teams, Chelsea could get near double figuresCAFCsayer said:
No way should bell be playing... I wouldn't even play Jones or Coventry as they're too important, although they will probably be wanting to play. Any first teamers who are injury prone should be getting a rest 100% thoughSDAddick said:I famously disrespect all cup competitions, so I'm in the "be careful who you pick" camp. My biggest worry is at CB, where you've got Ramsay, Burke, and Bell all dealing with/coming back from injury (in fact, Burke and Ramsay may not be fit to feature). As such, I think giving Gough a run out is the way to go there. And then Bell played three 90 minutes after coming back from injury so I'd be tempted to give him a rest. Lloyd Jones and Connor Coventry have played a lot of football lately, and the latter looked knackered second half against Rovers, so might be tempted to rest one or two of them.
I take the point about players wanting to play against the biggest teams, and I think a lot of ours will be up for it. I would just be very cautious. It's really hard to say definitively without knowing who is carrying a knock and who is in the red zone in terms of minutes/fatigue.
I do think Jones will go with a strong side, I just expect some players will be held back.
.......Kaminski
Gough Jones (C) Bell
Bree Coventry JRC TC
...........Knibbs
...Leaburn Kelman
That's not necessarily the team I would pick, that's just what I think Jones will do. For me, the league is everything.
With a sell out crowd we are going to want to put out a strong team, and there’s a full week until our next league game so plenty of recovery time1 -
Possibly, but most likely we would have been 0-0 and the game still to win, a point or three points far more important than not looking shit against Chelsea in the FA cup, and guess what we looked shit after Bell went off and with our luck not seen for the rest of the season.Fortune 82nd Minute said:

This is why earlier in the thread I said play the bits and pieces players.1 -
Yeah it was but he is so injury prone he can't play often at all so I think it's come to the point we cant rely on him.CAFCsayer said:

The thing that makes it worse for Bell is having TC in front of him, which increases the defensive load on him. I thought that Bell looked uncomfortable all evening, so I wasb't surprised when he pulled up.
We were always likely to lose against Chelsea whichever 11 we started with. Now we've buggered ourselves for the upcoming league games, which should have always been our priority.2 -
Sheff Utd made 10 changes today (and lost at home to a League 1 Mansfield). There was no way we weren’t going to play our strongest team last night; just terrible luck to lose both Bell and TC.0

So we will face a refreshed first choice Sheffield Utd side next Saturday with are knackered team, great!Killarahales said:Sheff Utd made 10 changes today (and lost at home to a League 1 Mansfield).
