Welcome Harry!1

I went into my local with my wife and ask the Landlord who was born and bred in Ipswich what he thought of Harry Clarke ?
"All hail to the Ale, Glass of white wine/fruit base drink for Mrs Soapbox and Sam, your usual, Half a shandy, You DISGUST me !"
Fair comment, but what do you think of Harry Nobby Clarke ?
"Beautiful British Name"

I prefer players to have both of them.Elthamaddick said:Left or right footed?9 -

Plenty of Championship experience is a big plus.A concern he has only played 13 games in a season and a half.4

That's a name I had to Google.Chunes said:I hope he works out, but it's similar to Lewis Fiorini. He came with some great pedigree as well, plus plaudits from previous fans, but going so long without competitive football is never a minor thing.
I'm guessing the club either know something about his fitness/sharpness levels that we don't, or we are just desperate for bodies in that position. I hope it's the former.1 -

One of those seasons was in the Premier League, where like a few Ipswich players, they weren’t up to it. As for this season, he’s not been involved0

Need to sign Harry Houdini next - might get us out of a bit of trouble.Southbank said:Have we had any Harrys since Cripps?2 -

Not only glass half empty but also liquid evaporated and glass dropped and smashed into little pieces…..golfaddick said:It seems like his pedigree is not in doubt but how many games has he played this season & is he fit to play 90 mins on Saturday if called upon?0 -
Harry looks quality so a good bit of business and hope it works out. Need a left wing back and a left centre back……oh and a centre mid play maker would be grand too!

Seriously ? Move over Bell, Burke, there's a new contender in town.CL_Phantom said:Welcome,
Reddit reviews from Ipswich fans have him down as a passionate, blood and thunder type, decent going forward, but carries an injury risk and can switch off/ get caught out of position
No doubt that he's a solid championship backup/ squad option though.1 -

I touched on that, guilty as charged but this guy has 3 players in front of him. He's not going to get any games so obviously suits them & hopefully us to get a few games or more over the coming months.msomerton said:
I have been told in this thread, when suggesting we are leaving are signings late, that you can not get good experienced Championship players in this window . That Championship teams would not sell a good player to another Championship team, so should I not take it that he is not that good then?eastterrace6168 said:Didn't take long to get the doubters going, he ain't even warmed up his seat yet, and some are writing him off...1 -
Seems a good signing if he can stay fit. Will be interesting to see how he compares to Bree, Ramsay and Burke. Great to have more options at RCB and RWB to cover injuries and avoid relying on Gough too much.
Known for his long throws and being quick, strong, good in the air and hard working according to FM.

Good grief he played 5 games for us & I've never heard of him. Obviously didn't make a great impressionChunes said:I hope he works out, but it's similar to Lewis Fiorini. Asked Chat GPT out of curiosity. Here are the results..

Reads the game well and anticipates danger early
-
Strong at covering space, especially when defending transitions

Disciplined in maintaining defensive shape
2. Versatility

Comfortable playing right-back, left-back, or centre-back
-
This flexibility makes him valuable in back fours and back threes

Good pace for a defender, useful against wide attackers
-
Strong in duels and not easily bullied
-
Maintains intensity over 90 minutes
4. One-v-One Defending
-
Confident when isolated against wingers
-
Times tackles well rather than diving in
-
Uses body positioning effectively to shepherd attackers wide
5. Work Rate & Mentality
-
High commitment level and willingness to track runners
-
Competitive and focused; does the “unseen” defensive work
-
Trusted by managers for consistency rather than flair
6. Aerial Ability
-
Solid in the air for a full-back/utility defender
-
Useful defending set pieces and back-post situations
⚠️ Areas That Are Less of a Strength
-
Attacking output (goals/assists) is functional rather than standout
-
Passing range is reliable but not elite playmaker-level
🧠 Overall Profile
Harry Clarke is best described as a modern, no-nonsense defensive utility player — dependable, athletic, tactically sound, and team-first. He’s the kind of defender managers value for balance and control, especially in physically demanding leagues.

As I remember it, he was supposed to be technically quite decent but seemed a yard off the pace both mentally and physically.charltonbob said:

Remember him hitting the bar away at Wycombe with a free kick, other than that nothing.charltonbob said:

Call me old fashioned but I thought the idea of signing a player was that they might actually, you know, be able to play in the next match you have.4 -
Too much analysis on his teeth and whether he’s fit enough to play - how tall is he for Christ sake ?3

Fiorini was different, as he was the typical overhyped Big 6 academy type player. So many players in their academies have reputations far above their abilities, because of who they play for - "He's an Arsenal/United/City academy player, therefore he must be good" - getting the youth caps that players at smaller clubs struggle to get.Chunes said:I hope he works out, but it's similar to Lewis Fiorini. Fiorini is struggling to get games for Stockport now.
Clarke has had enough games for decent Ipswich sides to show he belongs at Championship level.

Thought we were getting Jack Clark and was all excited, ah well. At least he’s got Championship and PL experience but lack of game time in last year or so seriously worrying. However, time to be underwhelmed is when we sign a kid with 4 league games under his belt for the LWB position.3

Too right.Laddick01 said:Didn’t realise that he was with Georgia Steel. Exceptional stuff.
This is the part I love about being in the Championship. The quality of WAGs is just a different level compared to League One
Let's see if we can get a few more down here.
