The way Cooper handles 2 of our players like they are children to give Taylor the space for a free header on the 2nd goal is pure embarrassment. Watch the reply at full speed. He stands still and holds them both in a cuddle.

For what it’s worth I’m not suggesting I’d wriggle my way out of that any better but it’s symptomatic of how insufficient we are at this level

    Men against boys, again
The mere fact Cooper and Taylor, their biggest 2 threats at set pieces, are marked by them 2 and not Burke and Jones, is all you need to know about how clueless we are at times

Only thing is he mentioned us playing football and doing nothing with it, isn't a feature of this Charlton side.

Has he not been watching us this season?
  • The statement from NJ is a grenade into the changing room. No way he can say his players have not completed and it be ok with them. Players are precious fragile souls and are as likely to down tools as they are roll their sleeves up.

He also underlined that too many are not up to the job of playing at this level. Was that aimed at the owners and the January transfer budget?

How is Burke a professional footballer….cant pass….cant control the ball….cant tackle…can see why Luton were in free fall last season

Looking at the players body language and lack of communication and apparent disinterest...I wonder if there are issues off the pitch in the dressing room...?  Along with rumours of Jones falling out with Docherty and, maybe, Apter.

    NJ surely won’t be sacked.

If we won’t pay for a better squad we aren’t going to pay a manager off.

Comments probably harsher than they should be as it was Millwall. But they were better than us all over the park. They put in more decent crosses in one game than we've managed all season!

But, there's no excuse for some of the half-hearted performances out there, the poor substitutions, the total lack of shape in the second half, the crap defending lat-on in particular, and the startting XI, which many predicted as not going to work, though in hindsoght, Anderson was more effective than Coventry!

Where is Docherty? This was a game for him. Has he fallen out with Jones? Is Jones man-management causing issues within the squad?

I’ve seen some gutless performances over the years but this fucking mob , everyone on Gillesphey all season but as for Ramsay most of the season he’s been worse, I truly am done with this mob !

We also seem so timid on loose balls, we seem to freeze and stop, or when we have the ball, too scared to pass.

Fair play for the honesty but there now needs to be a huge reaction next week against Leicester and a big think going forward about how we're going to setup formation wise because this just isn't working.

Honestly NJ has got some credit back in my eyes with his comments post match.

The players couldn’t even be bothered. Literally didn’t give a shit.

As I said on the match thread the second half was filth and not even trying is unforgivable

strange starting lineup, painful ridiculous substitutions...taking Carey, Chambers off, dropping Campbell back into a position that has been shown doesn't work. Desperate poor management ( Gillesphey and Campbell on the left side) that everyone watching was dreading. Taking a striker away to cover midfielder Chambers and bring on Fullah when you have three strikers on the bench for two places makes their selection even more baffling. Fuming with that performance, to be honest, they could of had six or seven

The one frustration is that Millwall should never have gone 1-0 up, and we should have gone 1-0 up given how the wrong goal got disallowed - Of course it doesn't mean that things would have turned out exactly the same way throughout the course of the game. But the early goal gave them something to protect, when it should have been ruled out, yes we got lucky with their lack of finishing, but like Sheffield United's lack of discipline... that aint our problem
We then get the perfectly good goal chalked off, and would have potentially given us something to protect
    Swings and roundabouts
Doesn't deflect from the performance as a whole... Millwall did deserve it... At least having a proper Left-Back for 45mins meant that Campbell actually looked a proper threat going forwards, hopefully that'll now resonate with our home games, as thats where survival will always come from.
I don't get all this "we had a goal disallowed" crap. Dykes might have been wrongly judged to have fouled their player but his shot was saved and the whistle blew seconds before the rebound was put into the net. The keeper & defender made no effort to stop it as play had stopped.

As for their 1st goal. Yes, if VAR had been involved it might had been ruled offside but we dont have VAR and it was very tight. 99 /100 that is given as a goal.

In all reality we were well beaten. They should have been 3-0 up at HT (a scuffed shot 6 yards out by Azezz should have gone in & Colborn missed a sitter) and they had numerous balls across our 6 yard line that we just managed to scramble away.

Somehow we were still in it with 10 mins to go but like most weeks we just dont have any threat upfront to cause teams to panic. Unless something changes then we are going down.

Why nullify our best player, Campbell, at half time?

Shit set up, shit midfield and no left side. You get what you deserve.
Imagine if you could sign a fit LWB that could come in & play 90 mins straight off. No need to chop & change during the game and might give you a chance to win the match.

But you all felt it wasn't possible yo sign someone on Jan 1st so we had to wait 3 weeks to sign someone who could only play 45 mins.

I know I'm seen as some some of idiot.....but tell me I'm.wrong.

Why you taking it out on other fans? It's not in our control. "You all", I've never even engaged with you. Don't know if you're an idiot but you are a melt.
  • Similar to the game in 2010 under Parkinson another 0-4 , one of the worst I've ever felt as a Charlton fan. Lost every 50/50 . You've got to win your individual battles against them , otherwise you're fucked . But if memory serves Millwall got promoted that season and we finished fourth . Just saying !!

Be interesting to see if Pompeys players turn up in their derby against a better side.

    Bet they at least try.
Hopefully Southampton try just a bit more.

The owners have let Jones and the fans down.
Signings either walking wounded or league one standard at best.
Not sure it’s the owners. They aren’t football experts. What is Rodwell telling them?

After that shambles, I hope he makes a few changes.

    Drop

    Ramsey
    Macca
    Karoy

    Select

    Gough [in place Macca]
    Clarke [in place of Ramsey]
    Docherty/Conor  [in place of Karoy]

Apter needs to get some game time in my view

So he says he motivates them and coaches them and it's on him, I wonder if he's put 2 and 2 together and realised that ever since he's seemingly frozen the club captain out, the side has lost a lot of it's form, desire and togetherness

And I'm not even having this bollocks that Chambers was supposedly our "first choice" to sign. No way.
Shame Rodwell couldn't be challenged on that at the Q&A.
Probably our only choice. Didn’t think he did that bad in the first half.

That was a dismal and, towards the end, an utterly spineless performance. TC was the only Charlton player to emerge with any credit. I thought that Jones, Dykes and Clarke were ok but the rest were poor and, in some cases like Burke and Ramsey, exceptionally poor.

Bringing on Godden for Rankin-Costello at 2-0 was suicidal and, given the way the game had gone in the first 83 minutes, it was always going to be a case of damage limitation. The way most of our players' heads went down towards the end of the game was inexcusable, illustrated by the fact that three of their players were waiting to tap in the third goal following Kaminski's penalty save, with our players far too slow off the mark.

It hurts me to say it but Millwall outclassed us, won practically every individual battle all over the pitch and, with much greater levels of desire, won more or less every 50/50 ball. Their recruitment of players like Azeez from Reading, Doughty from Luton and Taylor from WBA puts ours well and truly in the shade, even allowing for their status as a well established Championship club.

As we all know, we are in big trouble, especially given the direction of travel in the last two and a half months - 2 wins in 14 League games tells its own story. Nor am I confident that we'll be able to get in the necessary reinforcements this week. In addition to our current plight and style of play - neither of which make us an attractive proposition - Nathan is only talking about recruiting defenders. He seems to think that what we have available in midfield is satisfactory for this level, which it plainly is not.

That was like a cold shower. 1-0 flattered Charlton, albeit we were scrapping away and making the most of it up until half-time. 6-1 would have been a fair outcome. There wasn't much difference between the two squads in terms of experience, international honours etc. The difference looks increasingly like how Jones sets the team up: keep possession (which we did in the first half) + chase the ball + first time challenges + try and "nick" a goal. Other sides have a more sophisticated approach, as you'd expect at this level. In this case, Millwall looked significantly better, without having resources that are particularly superior. (They also played 3 recognizable strikers throughout the match.)

Should Jones go? I'm not sure. After today we could still end up with 52 points, if the remaining results reflect what we've managed so far. That could be enough. But you can't survive, long-term, in this division playing like this.
6-1, where did we get the 1 from?

Well, pretty predictable really and most people predicted the end result. Listened to Nathan Jones summary and I will have to say that he does miss one thing and that is the standard of player that have in our squad, Ramsay, Gillisphey, Carey, players who were playing well at the start of the season, are now being found out as the form they produced in early season has now evaporated, they are not the only ones, people wonder why Anderson is getting a game, it's because his energy is needed to cover gaps, same with Fullah, they are playing because the others are starting to show that they don't know how to handle this struggle and worse, they may not be good enough. What do Nathan Jones and the board do about it ? Well Clark is showing what is needed in this division and if there is any possibility of getting Bree back then we should do so, the left side problem needs experience, not a kid, as good as he is, in that position. The midfield needs a winner, someone who knows how to teach the others how to play and when not over play when in possession. There is six days left to fill those gaps and I have to say that we need to move players on, Olaofe, and the senior players out on loan such as Terry Taylor, Ahadme, need moving on, costly mistakes but wages off the books. We need to win our mini league to stay up, certain players are not showing that they can do that.

two wins in the last 14 and one of those a tight win against 9 men. The 'football' is abysmal, Jones has to go

Said pre match that this team looked weak. One poster disagreed and said we will keep it tight. Wonder what they will have to say to me after this.
We did somehow keep it tight for 80 mins then we gaped wider than Bonnie Blue
There was an inevitability about it though.
