They’ve gotta give us something to support, it’s no good getting back into the game 15 minutes from the end because the opposition let us
What came first... the chicken or the egg?
Same thing applies here, what comes first game by game? - The players putting in the performance, to get the crowd going, or the crowd showing their support so that the players have the lift from the very first minute.
Was a L1 turnout, but the crowd (who turned up) positively supported for 90 mins last night, vocal support was excellent given situation

Putting the matches on sky has been an absolute killer for midweek attendances. That was a really poor showing last night for a massive game. I agree though that the support, particularly second half, was good

Sunderland and Leeds are doing OK at home....think the support they get is a big help.

Sunderland were recently in league one and Leeds spent almost 20 years outside the top flight so this doesn't say much for the 'support making a difference' argument.

You also have the likes of Bournemouth and Brentford in the PL, whilst Leicester and Southampton are in the championship getting 30k every week.

Second half was good, first half was mostly Derby, even before the goal, going by the Sky coverage.

Well done to everyone at Millwall we did a decent job backing the team.

But does anyone still think Millwall’s support didn’t effect that result?

Yes they outplayed and out battled us, but their fans screamed for absolutely everything and I’m confident the ref gave them more decisions (although I’ve seen worse).

It’s all well and good asking for support. And the fans have put their hands in their pockets and travelled in numbers.

But today they simply couldn’t be bothered and that is a total kick in the nuts for every supporter who was there

I would imagine our team being absolutely fucking awful probably had more to do with it than their fans enthusiastically chanting “waaaaaallll”.
  • I do feel like our fans are so negative when the goal this season is to stay up by goal difference if we have to.

I actually don't think we are a championship club, you have to earn your right to be in this league and some people think we are entitled to it.

    Travelled in numbers?
For most of us it's just as easy to get to Millwall as it is the Valley.

Millwalls support and atmosphere has been pony for them in recent times , according to my scum mate who has been a season ticket holder for years .
He said obviously it picked up today cos of the rivalry but in general the noise levels are down even though it’s one of their best ever seasons .

The crowd makes up to 11.6% difference to the outcome and can swing both ways negative and positive.

With 15,000 of them singing “you’re South London’s spastics” it didn’t feel like that yesterday! Hadn’t heard that word for about 25 years.

Blaming fans for performance is as bad as blaming spending on ST sales.

To be fair some of their other chants, including “you’re fucking shit” and “you’ll never beat us again” (or something like that), were more accurate.

I ain’t getting behind gutless c*** who don’t show any fight, however I will say that I’ve been one of Campbells biggest critics but yesterday he ran the length and breadth of that pitch so therefore I applauded and supported him, if you don’t give a fuck then I ain’t gonna support it I’ll say it as it is to them and they can fuck off, and right now that goes for Nathan Jones aswel. Decent third division manager but clueless at this level in how to shut the opposition down and keep the pace needed at this level, same goes for the owners, rather spend money on some muggy firework display because oooh it looks nice, fucking wankers, put money into the team and the backroom staff, that would look better

I wonder what we spent on “fireworks” £1,000?
I’m wondering what top Championship player is available for £1,000?

Away from home our fans win hands down, so it must be are players who can make difference on staying up. After yesterday the players do not have it in them.

I think the team need to give the fans something to get behind & sing about (via effort / pressure on the opposition goal etc).

Above is the case for any club.

You have commended the atmosphere the Millwall fans created yesterday but that only happened because their team were up for it & dominated.

They (Millwall fans) were very very quiet first half at the valley earlier in the season when they weren’t playing well (& booed them off the pitch at HT during that game)…so they are definitely no different / better when things are not going for them.

I was not far from Dykes when the ref, encouraged by the crowd, blew for 'handball' when there was no handball at all.

In fact it was weird how often their fans shouted handball.

At the very least it put doubts in the refs mind.

They reckon they get too many tourists on match days now, with all the Europeans doing football weekends in London

To be fair they probably should have had a penalty for hand ball that wasn’t given in the first half.

Apart from a thread titled 'our support may make the difference to whether we stay up or not' alludes to that no ?

Can’t you see that if our fans at the Den yesterday had just cheered louder we would have won 5-4?

You are missing the point. It's not just about numbers. 20,000 roaring a team on is a lot better than 40,000 frustrated and negative fans.

Fans play their part. Booing the players during the game is not productive. But it is up to the Coaching staff and players to give 100 per cent and for the manager to pick and play a formation that gives us the best chance of winning. Be a bit more flexible and not intransigent.

Did the Charlton players get boooo’d yesterday before the game ended ?
    I didn’t hear it , did that help ?
Would boooing have made it worse , is that possible
