Jones needs to get together with the players and clear the air. You could tell from Saturday that something was wrong. I have also been told some more things which I was told I couldn’t post on a public Forum.Shame they all cant put aside their differences... If its true (not doubting you, just always have a tendency to be cautious in what I'm told), then its not just Jones, who is getting the sole flack for all this, who needs to sort this out... They all doThe Manager / the Players, they're f**king adults, whilst they all bicker like children in the playground, its our fans paying their money who are the innocent party suffering because they cant grow up.2 -
Relegation odds fallen from 5/1 to 5/2 after the weekend0

Can well believe it. Jones comes over as someone who shows signs of having narcissistic personality disorder. Having anyone in a workplace like that, let alone a manager can quickly turn a workplace toxic.raytreacy said:The atmosphere at the moment with the players towards Jones is not good. If Jones has lost the dressing room well that's the end for him, he hasn't got it in him to put it right with his personality. The players have really let us fans down, they should all have put 110% effort in but they didn't3

Like at the beginning of the season when the team picked itself.ElfsborgAddick said:Another factor with Jones is that for too long now he'll make many changes from one game to the next, a settled team would make things a lot better imo.

the problem appears to be when jones needs to pick the team, he doesn’t seem to have a clue1 -
It's beyond a spell of form mate. It's the reality of the side/squad we have this season, I would say we're now on a 21 game spell of poor "form" - barring a crazy and wonderful 20 minutes against Ipswich, our performances and results for the entirety of the months of October, November, December and January have been very poor.Callumcafc said:
It’s not the form table that decides which teams go down.DamoNorthStand said:MrWalker said:

The league table as it stands, or the form table over the last, say, 15 games.
I think you would learn more (and gain a more accurate reading) from the latter.
Obviously if the shit form continues we know what it means, but that’s why it’s form. Because it tends to vary over a 46 game season.
How many times in football have you thought “where’s the next win coming from?” and then it appears.
How many people thought we’d do Northampton 5-0 at their place last December before it happened? And how many people thought our supposed League One squad would win 3-0 at Portman Road this season?
We were always going to have a bad spell this year - and it’s lasting a bit longer than is comfortable for anyone. What’s yet to be seen is how and when we react to it.What’s the point in being a supporter if you can’t believe in your team?
I hope you're right (again) and the tide is about to turn but I don't think anyone can suggest that 4 months / 21 matches is merely a bad spell as it's practically half of the entire season, and about 70% of the season that has taken place thus far5 -
Doc???? He captained us to promotionWillmoreTheRed said:I really hope we don’t give him anymore money to waste. Look at this recruitment so far, assuming all these are his picks: Ahadme, Mitchell, Tanto, Roulisson, Apter, Doc, JRC.The few he has bought with promise he drops or doesn’t play. Honestly doesn’t make sense, it’s as if he gambles on every signing - “oh he’s a right winger but I’ll slot him at RWB and just hope it works” rather than going for someone in their natural position or finding a system to fit his players.
The stubbornness with loans - which he then decides to use in the middle of a crisis, you could of had a far better pick at the loan market if you’d have accepted we needed it from the start.
apter - play him as a winger and he will come good
JRC - not his fault he hasn’t had minutes. He has been one of the better ones lately
Mitchell - not good enough for the championship but was unlucky not to get game time last year as jones lucked out with small at wing back and Ramsay at rcb
roulisson - come on. He was signed as a back up after the window had closed. I don’t think you can judge jones for that
now spin it to list sucessess
ramsay - we will make a good profit on him
small - shame we couldn’t tie him down to longer

um not saying jones is a transfer guru, far from it. However, it’s not as black and white as you suggest3 -
The recruitment got us out of league 1 and currently 18th in the championship. Yes there’s been plenty of poor signings but if you look at every club in the EFL it’s a similar storyTodds_right_hook said:

Recruitment is incredibly difficult, if you get more than half of signings right then that’s probably better than most clubs4 -
Oh good, is it the time of year again where people start having a go at Callum for wanting to try and enjoy supporting Charlton? If you're feeling negative about our chances of staying up then that's entirely up to you but the burning desire people seem to have to dig out anyone who hopes for the best and tries to have a bit of calm about the whole experience is pretty bleak. We're in bad form, we had a horrible game at the weekend, there's not really any need to blanket all human experience with misery on top of that is there?15

Blimey, the last ten years… what a watch. Mainly spent in League One, mainly spent explaining to non-Charlton fans that “yes, we are a big club actually,” and mainly spent enduring rotten owners, poor managers, and a revolving door of chancers, also-rans and experiments that didn’t last long enough to learn the names of the players. Which is why, right now, I’ll take Nathan Jones over the lot of them. Every single one, I still can't believe we had Appleton as a manager!
Is it perfect? No. Are we wobbling? Absolutely. But this is where we are, and if we’re going to avoid being dragged into a full-blown relegation dog fight, the manager needs backing, proper backing. So if the Yankie owners really are wealthy, now might be the time to show us the money and back Nathan with a couple of players who can actually help turn this thing around, before its to late.
As supporters, let’s be honest, there’s not much we can actually do. We can’t buy players, pick the team, change tactics or make the subs (despite what Charlton life suggests). It’s a bit like life really like being flown by a pilot or being operated on by a surgeon. You just sit there, hope they know what they’re doing, and try not to panic every time there’s turbulence.
So here we are, strapped in, watching Nathan Jones with his taped-up fingers trying to steer us away from the relegation scrap. It’s a big week ahead for Nathan and the board. Big decisions to make and Nathan needs to prepare the team and set up them for the next fight at Leicester. All we can do is hope they get it right… and keep the faith. COYA.

We don’t have the players to play any system though. That’s the problem when you have no left back fit to play. Campbell at LWB was the least bad solution, it’s not a good solution but what else can we have done this last couple of months ? Hopefully now with Chambers and more coming in we won’t have to see it againblackpool72 said:

He does it because there is no one else to play there. Do you really think he wants to play him there?blackpool72 said:His insistence of playing Campbell at left wing back as he done again 2nd half yesterday is absolutely baffling.
Even a blind person can see it doesn't work and I can only assume he keeps doing it through stubbornness.
Pisses me off.
To keep playing Campbell at left wing back is bollox1 -
To me it feels like the squad could do with 2/3 days in the heat, a couple of light training sessions but some bonding time. It might even heal any rifts with management. The issue is our rearranged games make that very hard to squeeze in7

That works both ways? It seems to be perfectly fine for the "I'm a positive" crew to constantly dig out the poster boy for doom and gloom golfie.14 -

Knowing our luck there would be a fight on the plane going out and 5 of them would get arrested, Burke would slip on the steps of the plane and get injured, and Roussillon would miss the flight completely as he was too slow getting through the airport.fenaddick said:To me it feels like the squad could do with 2/3 days in the heat, a couple of light training sessions but some bonding time. Re. these rumors about Jones falling out with Doherty - agree it's really odd that he's not even in the squad for a derby game at Millwall, but he captained the team v Chelsea and was on the bench on Tues v Derby so if there is any issue between him and Jones, it must have happened v recently...1

If there has been a fallout between NJ and Docherty, can't just assume it was NJ's doing. The captain has a role in bringing squad issues to the manager, but who knows if he's openly challenged him or gone beyond that. (If anything has happened at all).
I'm wondering if this is what Brownie has been mentioning when he's hinted about NJ dealing with the 'dissenters.'1 -
I want Jones to show how good a manager he is. At the moment he isn’t.
He has been managing for ten years. He is not new at this, he’s experienced.
He needs to find a solution to the left side, quickly and doesn’t involve TC playing left wing back, as it has hampered us for months. He needs to be more tactically flexible as the personnel in the starting 11 is changing game by game and no one seems comfortable with the rigid system.
He needs to motivate. Our players are not running through walls for anyone at the moment.Passion is great, but it needs to be directed positively and effectively. The club are seemingly putting all our eggs in Jones’ basket. He needs to deliver. Fast.21 -
If you read my other comment, I never said they are all bad but how he chooses to use them or sometimes (doesn’t at all) is odd.Todds_right_hook said:

The likes of Tanto, Apter, Doc all have their strengths which his system doesn’t really play too, it questions why does he keep trying to force players into certain positions rather than buying people more naturally suited.
Personally think this is a problem now to big for him to resolve, he’s got a ton of players now not suited and short of confidence in a much harder league and everyone has sussed us out way quicker than they did in League One.0 -
Haven't read the thread but a massive alarm bell is practically every game we have to have an 'injury' to have a team talk, change shape and / or throw on a triple sub - screams that we don't know our best approach and are reactively spinning the wheel hoping to settle on a plan that works for each particular game3
-
I'm at a point where if he goes I don't care and won't lose much sleep over it. The football is awful, and I am sick of the negativity.
I just don't see us attracting a manager who might be an upgrade, as most managers won't leave a good job for a team with a low budget in a relegation fight.
It would have to be someone like Rowett, which at this point would be a like for like.6 -
And according to the odds, I still have a 70%+ chance of being right two years in a row…Garrymanilow said:Oh good, is it the time of year again where people start having a go at Callum for wanting to try and enjoy supporting Charlton? I do get tired of any replacement idea having to be an out of work manager or someone in the EFL. I think and hope the club have a better plan than that.
