Like others I looked at that starting line up and thought, how the hell are you doubling down on the ultra defensive set up after the last two results, particularly putting a player who hasn’t played since September as a holding midfielder, when to the best of my knowledge, he’s only ever played CB.
credit where it’s due, it worked. In all honesty, after last week’s disgrace, I was seething and and quite frankly they owed us a win, nothing else would’ve sufficed. I still have big doubts after last week, and it still seems a bit random and chaotic with the line up (Docherty just walking back in to the starting XI), but I guess the business thus far this window seems to suggests action and trying to change things. As odd as it seems from the outside looking in to let 2 players you paid money for go on loan, perhaps it’s a sign of maturity to see, it’s not working and we needed to do something.
the next three games are key. We need minimum 6pts out of 9, and the emphasis will be on us to win the games. As much as today was efficient and earned, we’ve still benefited from a player being sent off, just like the Sheff Utd game and despite Leicester sacking Cifuentes last week, they are a mess of a club. We’ve now got 3 games against steadier opposition on home turf, where we can set up like we did today by all means, but we aren’t/shouldn’t be trying to nick a point/not get beat. I’m not saying that was the intention today, merely pointing out it will be on us to break QPR, Stoke and Pompey down.Feb will define our season, it’s as simple as that. 6pts out the next 9 and we’re in a very good position. Pompey doing well/hitting form is not in itself a bad thing for us as there's other teams down here too, its not like it's between the two of us only one can survive. That away end was brilliant to be in today. Safe standing definitely adds to the atmosphere (as does seeing your team win).
Think that’s the quietest home crowd I’ve ever experienced. It wasn’t even toxic (apart from momentarily when Winks came on for them). It was just silent.19 -

He was a midfielder at the start of his career. Played there for Sheffield Utd, Wolves and Huddersfield. I think it was only when Wolves went to a back 3 that he started consistently playing as a centre back. Some of the comments I have been reading and hearing over the last week have made me ashamed to be a Charlton fan.
How anyone can be calling for Nathan Jones to be sacked after what he has done for us over the last two years is absolutely beyond me, what is wrong with these people?
Today was exactly what we needed to shut these cretins up, our new signings, Clarke, Chambers, Dykes and Coady, are all Championship players, that’s exactly what we needed to bring in.
Our ONLY a goal this season is survival, that is all, and sacking the best manager we have had for years and putting us back onto the Holden, Appleton, Adkins merry-go-round is the last thing this club needs.
The Board and Nathan Jones have done a great job since they came in, let’s keep our faith in them, especially when the road gets bumpy.

I'm obviously delighted to get a valuable away win but this generally positive response, although understandable, is not taking into account that we were playing against 10 men for over 75 minutes.
We also survived a penalty miss when, at the time, we were under pressure against 10 men.
As I said, I'm delighted by the result, but do we really believe we would have won 2-0 against a full Leicester team?
It's great to have Ramsay, Jones and Bell back playing in the central three together with, at last, two excellent proper wing backs.
Ok, against 10 men our midfield looked ok but how Coventry is not playing in that central position is beyond me. As soon as he came on he provided control and the ability to keep the ball. So important at this level.

It is good to see the mood lifted on here. I think everyone had a right to question players commitment, mistakes made in transfer dealings and tactics employed by the manager. Whatever the opposition there will be different challenges presented by all, we still have to travel to Boro and Southampton, two teams who looked a different class to ourselves. We also face Stoke, Wrexham and Ipswich at home. To get the desired 15 points will not be easy, we need to take points off of mid-table teams, such as Watford, QPR and Swansea, but above all win against the teams below us. We need to keep the faith, give some respect to teams who do beat us, they usually are very good. Above all, keep the faith, a bad two weeks is behind us, we move on and hopefully upwards.3

It's all well & good saying we won 2-0 but that was against 10 men for 75 mins (plus 15 mins of added on time) and if they had scored the pen then the way the game was going at that time it wouldn't have surprised me if we had actually lost.
So let's not go overboard. It was a decent performance & we scored 2 really good goals, but lets see how we do at home against QPR & Stoke.......2 decent sides who can beat the best in this League on any given day. We will need to be at our best AND be proactive in our play. I would start with Dykes & Kelman next Friday as I'm sure both will be wanting to put one over their old employer.

No point commenting on the game itself as it's been well covered already today, but it's certainly left me on a big high.
Was at the game today and travelled solo, actually stayed in Leicester the night before at the Premier Inn to spare me an early start this morning, it was good already seeing a few Addicks having breakfast in the morning.
I wanted to comment on just how good our atmosphere was today though, I was getting texts from friends watching on the TV and they said we sounded so good all game, and it was really felt inside the stadium too. Leicester were definitely shell shocked and it was silent from the home fans pretty much all game today, yet our away end certainly made it feel like we were playing at home.
I've been feeling a bit of football fatigue lately and the mental health has been taking a battering, but today gave everything such a huge recharge and reminded me why we go through the lows, because the highs make it worth it sometimes.
Also want to say a quick thanks to the lads I ended up chatting to for the whole game in row BB, don't know if they'll see it on here but it made me totally forget I was by myself and really appreciated the company for it. Will always be thankful for having the Charlton family in my life.

Weird one for me, obviously happy with the win and light years away from the surrender last week but......
First things first, I like many others couldn't fathom the starting line up and was pretty disappointed that we seemed to be going ultra defensive against a team who have really been struggling - my big fear was that the line up was handing them the momentum.
What I hadn't factored in was quite how poor Leicester would be and just how thick the air of lethargy would be around the stadium. It felt very familiar in some respects (to the not so distant past) - a fan base utterly disillusioned and who didn't really seem to care about what was being served up.
Agree with others that we looked far better balanced with two players at wing back who were relatively comfortable there. Bell coming in for Gillesphy is also going to massively improve us everytime it happens.
My biggest bug bear in recent weeks has been midfield, and whist it at least functioned today, and in some aspects performed well, it's still the week link for me. Coady did a good job and it was nice to see someone out there out there constantly talking, cajoling and adding a sense of calm. Docherty was decent as well, but I won't be swayed from the fact that our next signing should be someone to play that role, we need an upgrade. His commitment can’t be questioned, but at times his brain doesn't match his commitment and for me, he is nowhere near vocal enough to be captain.
If we have a couple more incoming transfer cards to play, I really hope one is a mobile, physical central midfielder.
I was really surprised that Jones went for Dykes and Leaburn again today - it was a disaster against Sheff Utd. Much better today and Leaburn was again a menance while he was on the pitch.
The hope now has to be that Chambers has done 45 and 65 minutes and he can now step up to 90. Not so sure that will come straight away though. He looked shattered when he went off and had been struggling physically for about 5 mins.
I really like Clarke, TBH I am surprised Ipswich let him go out on loan. He is an upgrade on Bree and and all round better player. I really hope we would be in with a shout of signing him if he is available in the summer.
If Leaburn is now injured for any period of time I'd like to see Godden and Dykes as a partnership. Both are intelligent players and there is definitely a chance of decent partnership forming there.
The big concern for me was how badly we wobbled when Leicester got on the front foot for the first 15 minutes of the second half. We looked ragged and players were getting dragged out of position. We became too easy to play through again.
Shipping 21 shots against 10 men isn't great either.
Regardless of any of the above, given the other results today it is a big 3 points. Especially with various teams down there starting to show some form.
We have to follow it up with a consistent set of positive results in the next 3 home games. I worry that the defensive set up shown today will cause us problems at home and we will struggle to break teams down. Unfortunately, if as we've seen, we try to be expansive at home teams cut through us too easily.
I think it's fair to say the next few games are unlikely to be pretty.9
