Very frustrating evening where we should have scored and although their keeper does well we were also wasteful especially Carey.
NJs subs were poor. If we are looking to get a goal, bringing TC on at LWB is not the answer. Playng him there has unbalanced the side and cost us points for months. Moving Bell iver will injure him, based on experience, so if chambers can't play 90 mins you either have to play Fevrier there or of you think that wont work against particular oppo, change shape.
Carey should have been subbed on around 79 mins, imo as soon as he started bombing forwards and giving the ball away. 3 times in a row. Which was before he slapped a couple of long range shots into Covered End Upper.We could have had on Rankin-costello, fevrier, coventry, TC for Carey, Chambers, Coady, Dykes for the last 20 mins and I think that would have given us the fresh legs and ideas that couod have brought the goal rather than invite on the pressure.On the plus side while we rather rode our luck at the end, we didnt look bad (which we have in November, December and January). Just frustrating which is several steps up from very poor.I hope Karoy geta decent minutes at Blackpool and comes back better for them as last night we could have done with him instead of Berry coming in for Docherty.2 -
A solid point against solid championship club.
The clean sheet is a big positive.
Kaminski had his best game for me, wasn't too many saves to make, the one at the death was superb. Loved how he commanded his area far more aggressively tonight.
Carey should have lifted his head a little more and played a better ball than blasting away from distance.
TC was sloppy possession wise, made a decent run 1st up than faded.
Have to agree with most on here, Berry for Doc was daft. After the run we've had, shoring us up the last 15+ minutes would have been better, QPR were having a good go at us. Hoping 1 chance could fall to Berry was more wishful thinking than anything else.
Chambers and Clarke have given us our more natural style back. Both have been really good.
Tough game against the potters next up.0 -
Jones subs or lack of leaves a lot of unanswered questions imo. Midfield was on their feet with 20 to go. Why he didn’t take Coady and Carey off I have no clue. Frustrating given we created a lot and couldn’t find the net but we could have easily lost it last 15. On to Stoke we go which will be tough.2

First thing TC goes on a run and panics the QPR defence - and immediately their manager makes a sub to double up on TC.
Now TC is pressed onto the touchline, denied space and now afraid to take a risk, in case he's exposed defensively.
By this time our 3 CMs have run themselves into the ground and running on empty - and QPR win control of the midfield
And what does NJ do?
Nothing, he just bites his fingernails and hopes for the best, before bringing on Berry very late on.
That's not good enough - you had energy and experience on the bench which could have revitalised us.
You've been completely out thought by the QPR manager - which nearly cost us defeat.
And for god's sake, stop this nonsense of playing TC out of position - and instead let the lad play to his strengths.
He isnt a striker and he isnt a wing back, we dont play with wingers but if he is on that pitch he has to do more.1 -

What a difference a week makes, 7 days ago Jones was a tactical genius, the siginings were tremendous and we were no longer in any trouble.cabbles said:because we do so much work off the ball, we end up in the situation we found ourselves tonight where QPR looked the likelier to score in the final 20. Leaburn was often exhausted by the end of it. I know the way we play is what has got us to where we are now and with safety in our own hands, but we’re getting to the business end of the season now. Bodies are tiring and the season has taken its toll. If we just had a couple of players that could actually let the ball do the work it would make such an overall difference. It’s immaterial as we don’t.
I guess the positive is that because Clarke, Coady, Dykes and Chambers haven’t played much football, you could argue they should be a bit fresher for the final games, but our style really does take it out of the players.We have to as an absolute minimum beat one of Stoke or Pompey and not lose the other imo, preferably beating Pompey and at least drawing with Stoke. The challenge with that is facing Stoke first. Draw or dare I say lose that, Pompey becomes huge
I can definitely see Jones changing it on Wednesday trying to manage those minutes. TC will come in off Dykes, we might even get Coventry back in for Coady
These next 2 home games are so important. I just really question what’s in the locker to break them both down and get the win from a quality perspective

Enjoyed the game up until the last ten minutes. Unfortunate for us that our best two chances fell to Coady and Ramsey. Dykes was also unlucky after some good perseverance to create a chance. He's a much better player than I thought he was before he joined.
Dykes our MOM. Their keeper was the overall MOM, which tells the story in itself.

Lots of positives to take but also very frustrating. Strange subs, but never mind a point is better than none on to stoke we go.0

NJ's in- match management remains a concern for me.
I realise we do not have the strength in depth of some of the other teams but NJ acts very late on and continues to make some odd choices.
As you say - he was out managed by the QPR manager mid way through the 2nd half and could have strengthened our midfield a lot earlier with fitter quicker players playing in their natural positions. TC did his best but is just not a defender at all.
Berry was just the wrong choice again.
N Jones has a plan A but seems to struggle to react when a plan B is desperately needed.0 -
He’s a good player. He suffers from lack of goals for the same reason all our forwards do, we’re just not enough of an attacking threat as a team. Godden will hopefully be fit enough to start a few games in the run in, but I very much expect to see him as a sub for the majority between now and the end of the season.
